How and when to take a cutting from my Philadelphus

End of the Summer, before the frosts is a time I find hardwood cuttings take best.

It's a golden Philadelphus which has magnificent foliage but is sometimes reluctant to flower. However, I would like to take a cutting (or two) from it as it's a bit crowded where it is and a darker corner of the garden could do with a shrub with such bright foliage. Any hints?
