Potatoes - how best to store?

Thanks again ... we made the mistake of thinking it would be all so easy. From all your replies, it is, as long as you know what you're doing!

I've got a potato bag from Lakeland and it certainly keeps them longer than previously

They need eating before the beginning of the year though as they will start to grow and become soft. We keep ours in hessian sacks in the loft.

Cool, dark, well-ventilated place.

Thanks! I think those were the mistakes made - not letting them dry off properly and plastic bucket no good. I'll do a better job of supervising this year

They need to be really dry before you store them, and then a hessian sack kept somewhere as dark as possible is ideal. In a plastic bucket they will 'sweat' and that leads to rot. Any light makes them go green. Cool but not frosty.

I always seem to be trimming roots off potatoes that looked fine when I first had them.
