One of my late cats liked to get into a box of tissues and skid across the floor as it she were on a skateboard which looked very funny.
Another one for pet owners - what is their reaction to snow?
Pigeon Lofts - any words of warning? Thank you
Hello!👋
Welcome to the new thread 😊
Julie Walters is playing the part of me (or Helena Bonham Carter, if I’m having a very good day) and Juliette Greco is playing MrsKen.
Which actress is playing the part of you?
One of my late cats liked to get into a box of tissues and skid across the floor as it she were on a skateboard which looked very funny.
Another one for pet owners - what is their reaction to snow?
Our dog’s first reaction was to jump round on it, sniffing and challenging it to move. The deep holes made by her paws fascinated her.
What about other pets’ reactions?
My dog doesn’t like it on her paws, she sort of flicks it off.
In this weather she is in and out the back door in seconds (she goes through the cat flap)
What did you dress like as a teenager?
I was very colourful, girly and punky; lots of crimped hair, vibrant make up, billowing skirts, loads of bangles.
I doused myself in Body Shop Coconut perfume.

Morning * Fanny*
I went to art school in the early 60s, so was a beatnik. Long hair, mostly wore black. Black rimmed eyes etc. My mother wouldn’t walk down the road with me.
How about you?
Platform. Shoes, maxi coats, shiny high boots , Levi jeans and mini skirts ( oh, to have those legs now).
We went to a lovely neighbourhood party yesterday, about 20 of us.
Do you meet up with neighbours during the year ?
I live in a small cup de sac, we have an annual summer BBQ & always celebrate things like the Jubilee or VE day with a street party but don’t really have parties in peoples houses. Although everyone appears to get on and have a chat when out in the garden. I very occasionally go round to my next door neighbour if she has a few mutual friends around when her husbands off on a golfing holiday.
I still wrap the younger children’s Christmas presents in traditional paper but I’m using gift bags more often now for everyone else’s. Do you prefer to use gift bags or wrapping paper?
I use more gift bags these days - I've got a small collection of them so I might as well recycle them, while the wrapping paper stays in the cupboard. Who knows when I'll next use the paper.
Same question again please - gift bags or paper?
I dont give gifts at christmas so nothing to wrap.
Have you got any plans for tomorrow with the warmer forecast? Jobs youve been putting off?
Ive got some tidying up of things I just dumped outside in the cold snap.
We must clear the leaves off the lawns. If it doesn’t rain we will do that.
Do you put anything special in a visitor’s room?
Usually a small vase of flowers, . a fresh towel, a spare blanket and a small decanter of water with a glass.
We usually have our main meal around 2pm on Christmas Day. What time you have yours ?
Around one-ish. It allows time for us and the AC to have a lie in and the GC to play before leaving their presents.
Then we play games or charades. We either have a buffet later in the evening or younger family go home and we just have a sandwich or fruit,
What do you do after Christmas dinner apart from snooze?
We tend to play a few simple games after lunch or do a family quiz. Later we will relax with a cup of tea and hand the chocolates round.
Is there anything in particular you really want to watch on TV over Christmas? I’m looking forward to the new series of Happy Valley and Call the Midwife Christmas special.
Agree with you Sacha, and I would add Doc Martin Christmas special.
What TV Will you avoid?
All of The Soaps for me. I used to watch Corrie with one eye for many years but stopped a year ago.
I haven’t watched ‘soaps’ for years. Leafing through the Radio Times, nothing much has struck me as essential to watch. I’ll see what I feel like at the time.
Are you off to a pantomime, the ballet or the theatre over the New Year?
Going to a pano o. Friday with DD3, SIL and the two boys, 6 and 1. Not sure how the little one will be but probably joining in the fun.
We have a star on top of our tree.
Do you have a star, fairy or something else on yours ?
We've got a sliver star on top of our tree.
What's your favourite Quality Street chocolate?
I’ve got a snowy owl on the top of my tree.
Good question! The Green Triangle or the Caramel Cup (I had to Google to remind myself what they are)
What’s your favourite Carol?
I like The Holly and The Ivy
I’m with you there Fanny. My absolute favourite. Though I do like ‘Silent Night’ sung in Welsh or German.
Have these strikes inconvenienced you at all?
Thankfully it’s only the Royal Mail strike that’s inconvenienced me, I ordered a lovely new pair of boots but they never showed up so I had to request a refund. Although I do use the trains occasionally the rail strike hasn’t affected me personally. I just hope none of us are affected by the nurses and ambulance strikes, worrying times.
Did you go out when it was icy recently or do you prefer to stay indoors rather than risk falling. I slipped and fell on my own drive on Saturday, luckily it wasn’t too bad, I bruised my leg & felt a fool but it made me think!?
Yes, we did go out when it was icy, to exercise our dog, but the fear of falling is definitely a factor in where I walk.
Yesterday I had a lovely shopping day into different places that still had loads of big shops open. I didn’t spend a lot but such a treat a shopping malls near us, have many closed shops.
Do you have a bustling shopping centre near you?
No,sadly. A good 40 minutes drive to anywhere with lots of shops. And a train ride to Cardiff for anything really special.
Are you off to any Christmas lunches or parties this week ?
No special Christmas gatherings as such, but a normal crafts group this week and a family get together on the big day.
Do you ever make cards or gifts?
Yes I have made cards but not on a grand scale, cross stitch ones, quilling etc. I go to a weekly craft group and occasionally give things I’ve made away, I would like to improve my crafting skills then I’d feel happier giving my wares as gifts. Last week we had a chocolatier in and we all made a lovely decorated chocolate Christmas tree. I think I’m going to give it as a prize at the family Christmas quiz.
Have you ever entered anything in a village show? Cakes, jam, veg, pets etc. I haven’t but one of my granddaughters has.
Not into village fetes as such as we don’t have one. But I have put drawings into art exhibitions quite successfully
What films are you looking forward to seeing over Christmas.?
1917 is on. We have seen it once but will definitely watch it again .
