Uncooked Mince Pies!

exactly the same at sainsburys last year..... the 4 pack shortcrust ones that I love weren't cooked properly underneath.. i pointed it out and from then on they were cooked too much. couldn't find the happy medium setting.

It might be the moisture from the mincemeat , making the pastry soggy,is the rest of the pastry ok?

I like the Co-ops.

So do we. I recently bought some very expensive ones from Betty’s Tea Room. They were under cooked and inedible, even after some extra time in the oven. If I’d lived nearer I’d have taken them back.

Sainsburys mince pies are good, no soggy bottoms and you can get a pack of four for £1.

I prefer the Sainsbury's mince pies to the Marks and Spencer ones. Sainsbury's are much closer to home made, especially if gently warmed.

I wish deep filled mince pies had never been invented. They crept in about 30 odd years ago and now they are ubiquitous. I love mince meat but there's just too much of it to the ratio of pastry. My local bakery still does the most wonderful all butter pastry mince pies which are traditional "shallow" ones.

Mince pies are not mandatory for Christmas. Plenty of other goodies around! Personally I don't like them in any case.

I beg to differ! They’re certainly mandatory in this house - but homemade, first batch will be on 1st December, or the first day of Advent, whichever comes first.

I have been holding out for Tesco to reduce the price of their £3 for six Finest mince pies. Hooray! They are half price so I bought two packs of six.

I have one and a half warmed for 20 seconds in the microwave with a dash of single cream.

Too rich for me but late DH loved Aldi and Iceland mince pies. Both were rated highly in GH magazine

That made me laugh. I doubt any of us thought we were discussing nappies!

I'd give Aldi ago. Year on year, they seem to be either first or second choice for quality after testing by a popular testing magazine. Last year M & S was top but the price was v. high.

Iceland deluxe mince pies hit the spot for me!

I know in a survey last year The Co-op topped all others including artisan bakeries. If I get any I think I'll get mine from them.

Don’t know which region you’re in but Wenzels are specialist bakers who do excellent mince pies.

Waitrose mince pies are good.

I’ve just watched an advert on tv for Morrison’s mince pies and it states they are freshly baked in-store, although probably made elsewhere and delivered frozen or chilled?

I can’t comment as I can’t ’do’ anything with dried fruit.

Lidl and Aldi do excellent mince pies. No soggy bottoms, and am talking about the pastry here 🤣

I make my own, but an ex colleague loves M&S mince pies!

Morrisons are to remove signage in stores following a complaint to trading standards. Other supermarkets are affected. It may be that the mince pies are made elsewhere (possibly even overseas) and delivered to the stores frozen. All the shop does is reheat.

Check out fruit crumbles they are slimy concoctions because the crumble is not cooked properly underneath. I have bought from different stores in the past when I had sudden visitors arrive. I make my own I don’t trust any of them no matter what store or brand they lack quality.

I always check our butcher's cooked steak pie. They are excellent but like your mince pies they are often not quite done to my liking on the bottom. I finish them off by popping them into a high oven upside down. 15 minutes and they are perfect.
