White Stilton

I always thought it was the blue in Stilton that made it so tasty, but I haven't tried white Stilton, I'll have to look out for it.

This week I bought a gorgeous white Stilton with Mango and Ginger from Marks and Spencers. I could have eaten all of it in one sitting.

About 20 years ago y.u used to be able to buy white stilton with ginger at Christmas. It was a lovely combination but I haven't seen it for a long time. White stilton with apricot is around at Christmas but is very bland compared with the ginger.

Hartington, you mean Ye Olde Cheese Shop. I shall always remember my first visit there- and my first taste of Stilton. The variety and quality of British cheeses, even in the early 70s, was truly mind blowing (and taste buds).

Tesco had it in Coventry recently. I don't know if every Tesco has it.

I have just ordered from Hartington Creamery. White Stilton wedges, Oat Crackers and a free jar of Apple and Pear chutney.

I have found a video which shows how blue Stilton is made. I think it might be before the holes are made so that the oxygen is "let in"?

For those who like Blue cheese I would recommend two, Blacksticks Blue & Garstang Blue. Both from the the Northwest, therefore many people may not be aware of them in other areas of the country but well worth trying.

Yes, thanks, and apologies for the deviation! Many farms say they invented it. I did a piece of research on a farm in Hungerton, Leics, linked to the Quenby Estate, and they assured me they were the ones.

British cheeses are all just fabulous, and can match any French or Swiss cheese in variety and quality.

Thanks- has it always been produced, or is it a new thing. I am a huge fan of Stilton and believe it is the best blue in the world ... but.

I expect it's always been around. We had it in my childhood.
I expect all stilton may be white till the mold is injected given that it's a young cheese. Only guessing but seems likely.

I use Ocado and Sainsburys. I looked to order online but you had to spend £20+ and £8+ delivery.
I bought it from Morrisons, cut it into 50g pieces, wrapped each piece in clingfilm and put in plastic bag in freezer. I use it in a lovely butternut squash risotto recipe.

I do love a good cheeseboard, with a good selection, Italian, French and English (we do have many good cheeses to choose from now now) a variety of crackers and or bread and a good glass of wine. Unfortunately Mr Tl does not, will only eat small amounts of cheese such as in quiche or Lasagna so I have to wait till we have guests to share with otherwise I turn piggy and suffer with indigestion now I'm older.

Wensleydale may substitute.

I love white Stilton but rarely find it these days.
I asked in a specialist cheese shop in Cartmel where they had a huge range of cheeses. The owner told me he never sees it. He said you can sometimes get it at Christmas in Booths, a local upmarket supermarket chain.
I think the closest I have had to it is a creamy Lancashire.
