Cheese Grater

I have an OXO hand grater which you hold with one hand over a bowl.My DGD loved using it so I bought her one as a surprise Xmas stocking gift. It can also go in dishwasher and stores upright in utensil container.
The triangle upright one caused caused many a cut finger.

DD1 has one like Shysal and it's really easy to use and the cheese goes straight into the dish. It came with 3 different types of grate and a lid.

Almost the first thing I bought when I was getting married was a mouli grater. My mum had had one all the time I was growing up and I wasn't going to have any other type! Mine has now been in use for about 47 years and I wouldn't change it.

I have one of these electric food grater/slicers. 5 different attachments so that you can choose how finely you want to grate and it does it in seconds. Dead easy!

The only problem with something like that - for me - is space. Both cupboard and worktop.
The bog standard cylinder grater, OTOH, fits easily in a drawer.

Russell Hobbs mini chopper does the job chop cheese in chunks whiz up its done. Put the glass bowl and spindle in warm soapy water easily cleaned no effort.

But, honestly, I found the ready grated bags were fine if you're going to use them in a sauce or grilled etc.

If someone has a food processor it can be done in seconds
(Apart from the washing up)

Do you have a relation, friend or neighbour who'd grate a whole block of cheese for you? It freezes really well it and then you could just take what you need. You wouldn't need to ask very often and only takes a minute to do.

That's a great idea SC, the problem is that people don't like to ask for help and I speak from personal experience.

Hands to painfull to use standard box grater , mini processor to fine, bags of grated don't like they put coating on to stop sticking. Have looked at barrel type that you hold in one hand and turn handle, any recommendations

I've avoided bags of grated cheese until now but did order some recently as I wanted to make a lot of cauliflower cheese. The Tesco own brand is just cheese with a coating of potato flour to stop it sticking together and it was fine. We also sprinkled some on beans on toast.
It kept well in the fridge and freezes too.

Alternatively, the Zyliss cheese grater seems to be the style you want and has good reviews, £10 at Dunelm.

I have RA affecting my hands and find a grater with container easier to use than a box type. For finely grating a small quantity I use my microplane, which requires little effort. I didn't get on well with the rotary one I used to have.

Yes a mouli grater would be easier. It you google mouli grater it comes up too

That the type I’ve always had - used to be Mouli but they don’t seem to do them any more. I hate box graters with a passion!

I’ve had mine for ages, can’t remember the brand. If you put ‘rotary grater’ into Google or Amazon it comes up with plenty of the simple cylinder type. I’d go for the one with the best reviews.
