A gift of Stollen, very disappointing!

I love those bites . We both love them so much they kind of disappear very quickly !

Lidl have delicious Stollen bites, this thread has just reminded me to ask Mr. B to get some tomorrow.

I always get a ( couple of) stollen from Aldi, they do the regular £2 and luxury £4 option. I usually buy regular and yes it is not a fruit cake as we have so maybe a bit dryer, we all love it.
Perhaps if you like custard put that on, or ice cream , jam or some sort of choc sauce. Butter it perhaps. I am sure it woukd make a lovely bread and butter pudding. Jamie Oliver used a panettone last night and it looked delicious.
We had one sent from Berlin a few years ago, Dresden stollen are supposed to be the best and it was a little drier than dear old Aldi. Presumably being German Lidl will do it too. It us the traditional German Christmas cake and we have it every year.

I’ll tell you what else is delicious with butter - the barm brack I made yesterday! Lovely and moist and fruity.
No fat and only one egg, but fruit and sugar soaked overnight in tea - supposed to be cold, but it was made specially, and hot.

I have to make my own gluten free one every year as I’ve tried and failed many times to buy one.

It arrived. Tiny and frankly I could and have done better myself.

I would use it to make a bread and butter pudding or a trifle!

I love Stollen and I often find the cheaper the better. My German grandparents would always include one in their Christmas parcel from Berlin because such things of course did not exist in our wee town in the 50’s.
I remember many many years ago D who was barely reading expressing her horror that according to the box I had apparently Stolen it from Sainsbugs.
I actually have a friend coming round in an hour for coffee, Stollen bites and mini mince pies .

Stollen are lovely, we have one every xmas. They are better with butter.

They make good bread-and-butter pudding. I have been given one with chocolate running through.
I find a lot of continental pastries dry. Perhaps we do not eat them the same way.

Try it toasted.

Aldi do nice stollen they are moist and rich you can buy the small bites they are nice too.

I understand that you need to pour melted butter over the top then icing sugar. We have just received one from a German cousin but not tried it yet.
