Poorly food

Am I the only person who has never had a glass of Lucozade? I can not remember ever receiving different food when I had measles, chickenpox etc. My mother did not believe me if I felt unwell- she was a nurse!

I was never a fan of milk or any type of frogspawn type puddings as I called them. I added custard to that list along with fried, poached and coddled eggs.

I used to be given mashed up soft boiled egg, which was known in the family, for some reason, as a Billy egg. DH was one for bread and milk with sugar, even after we married.

Another Heinz tomato soup here. My Mum would make this for me and then in turn I gave it to my children when they were ill. We now always call it “poorly soup”

We were given ( in 1950's - 1960's) broken-up bread with boiling water poured over & an OXO cube sprinkled in.

Oh, I think I might have that on one of these cold days..!!

Def had lucozade but don’t remember any special food. I hate eggs and milk so they def wouldn’t have been very welcome!

When I was a student and poorly my flat mate gave me her poorly food - mashed potato in tomato soup! Yuck!

Arrowroot made up like a custard. Once I had this arrowroot custard and it was mauve, not sure what coloured it but it seemed really special.
My M-in-law once bought me some lucozade with the last coins she had left in her purse. The kind thought made me feel so much better.

I don’t remember being given any special food when I was ill, but I do remember having Lucozade with crinkly orange cellophane wrapped around it and both Bunty and Judy comics where I was usually only allowed one.

As a child, Heinz Baked Beans!! Nowadays it would be chocolate in any form!!

Oh God this brings back memories of having to make a meal and lay an inviting tray for ‘an invalid’ in aHome Economics !!!!! If I was ill my mum used to,feed me Heinz chicken and rice with carrots in a tin ,baby food, I think she did this up until I was abou 10, by which time I was up to about 6tins!!!!!!??

A soft boiled egg on mashed potato!

My Nan always made us boiled mashed potatoes mixed in gravy. Still have potatoes mashed in gravy with dinners!

Boiled eggs, and I still love them. I can’t imagine how many I ate when recovering from a mastoid operation in 1949. I don’t know if eggs were still rationed then - probably not.

My mother, from Yorkshire, called bread and milk ‘pobs’, but I thought it was a made-up word, somehow describing the soft texture. I didn’t realise other people used it.

When I was small, Bovril drink, sandwich of butter and Demerara sugar on white bread. For a sore throat my mum had a jar of onion and sugar, a spoonful of the liquid. Now my comfort food is a jacket potato with a lot of butter.

Bread and milk with sugar. Lovely. Also had bread and oxo. Bread torn up in a basin with hot water poured over a dissolved oxo cube. Great, I could eat that now .

Chicken soup with dry bread. Moving on to chicken in white sauce with mashed potatoes.

My school sick bay would give anyone feeling sick a cup of Bovril and two digestives to eat, I can think of nothing more disgusting!

I was a bread and warm milk girl. Nauseating.
My son always wanted toast buttered hot so the toast went soggy.

Grapes and Lucozade

Lucozade and a Marmite drink - not at the same time. Marmite is still my go to drink if I have a cold. My daughter still refers to chicken soup and fish pie as 'ill' food.

Bread soaked in warm milk with sugar sprinkled on. Known as "pobs" in these parts. (Does anybody ever still eat that now?) Or Farleys Rusks in hot milk. Yes, baby food! (Must confess I still occasionally have those if I'm really feeling ill and no appetite.) Or rice pudding. Mashed potato.

As a child, tomato soup with mashed potato, sometimes with grated roast beef on top (suppose that must have been on a Monday or Tuesday).

Scrambled eggs for me even now for a change a cup of veg soup .

Heinz tomato soup. Tinned pears. Milkshake.

Raw egg yolks whisked with port and sugar, prescribed by Gran, when we were little.

Hot Ribena or the original Lucozade were the drinks and cheesy mash or hot buttered toast to be gentle on the stomach. Still ove them now if I am not well.
