Christmas Pudding Memories

The only memory i have Notagranny44 is my mother keeping it wrapped in muslin cloth.and keeping it in the pantry.
Another memory was my sister making one and the softest thing in it was the sixpenny bit.
You couldn`t even kick it about,we had some fun with that one for years.

Does anyone else remember their mother covering the Christmas Pudding with a flour and water paste to keep out moisture during or after cooking? I can't seem to remember at what stage it was done but I'm sure I haven't imagined it! I hope someone can help, because mine always seem to go mouldy if kept for a time, even though I always allow them to dry and put fresh papers on.
