Ingredients:
3.5 ounces Penne Pasta
5 ounces Mushrooms
½ Red Onion
AVOCADO SAUCE:
3 ounces Fresh Spinach
1 Avocado
½ Lime
3 minced cloves Garlic
1,5 oz Parsley
2 tbsp Almond Milk
4 tbsp Water
1 tbsp Extra Virgin Olive Oil
½ tsp Salt
Pinch of Black Pepper

Back in the 80s I purchased a book called Protein Balanced Vegetarian Cookery (dull title ) by David Scott and I use it still. The Indonesian rice salad recipe is divine.
Another book I've had for over 10 years is Vegetable Heaven by Catherine Mason. Some lovely grain based recipes in there and one for Chocolate, Marzipan and Amaretto cake which is simply the best chocolate cake I ever make. Nigel Slater says her recipes are "bold, sassy and sophisticated". I say they are yummy, yummy, yummy! - and very doable.

Oh yes, his garlic tart thing is one of the most sublime things I've ever tasted. It was at a big picnic where everyone brought a dish. There was almost a brawl over the last slice.

Another vote for Otolenghi - though I too search online if I get stuck for ideas.

Linda McCartney's "On Tour"; Sarah Brown's "Vegetarian Kitchen" (almost falling apart but still used) and a more recent acquisition Madhur Jaffrey's "World Vegetarian Cookbook" (this was a present from someone-else; it's huge but full of fantastic recipes).

I could not choose. I have ones from the 70s through to now...

The recipe I missed most was Orange Curry. which was hot spiced orange juice so not really a curry proper. I had a rather dashingly handsome South Indian vegetarian boyfriend at the time who made it for me and it was so delicious. I bought the Vegetarian Epicure solely for that recipe. There was also a recipe for really delicious wafer thin crisp biscuits that I miss too. I never managed to successfully recreate either even though these days I rarely follow recipes slavishly.

I mention the South Indian boyfriend as he was from Kerala, on the Malabar coast which is a largely vegetarian area and has the most delicious, delicately spiced fragrant dishes. It's worth seeking out recipes from that area.

Modern Vegetarian Cookery by Walter and Jenny Fleiss - no longer modern, but some lovely recipes, their red cabbage is to die for. Anna Shaw's Vegetarian Epicure, worth buying for the Potatoes Romanoff and Mushrooms Berkeley apart from anything else. And a tiny, wartime booklet from The Vegetarian Society that was my mum's - the recipes are, generally, as dull as ditch-water, but I can remember mum making some of them.

To be honest, these days I mainly go to the internet for new recipes. But over the years I have built up quite a collection of my own, which I tend to refer to when I can't think of anything imaginative without help. But I do find that most recipes can be adapted by substituting vegetarian options instead of meat.

Just remembered - a friend gave me Weight Watchers own book called Veggie and it’s excellent

I did buy Jamie's new book but my granddaughters nabbed it.

We eat a mostly vegetarian diet as we grow a lot of our own fruit and veg. I have a couple of veggie cook books but find the best way to source new recipes is decide what veg we're having then type it into a search engine and choose from the many recipes that pop up.

I write my favourites down in a blank recipe book that I got from Amazon.

I just Google and save, or write them down off the tv, can't be bothered buying books they can be so expensive.

Inspired by this thread, have just bought the Jamie book - here's to good eating! (assuming I get around to acually making the recipes...)

A recent acquisition is The Green Roasting Tin by Rukmini Iyer - fantastic. Loads of very tasty one tin recipes which suit my style of cooking perfectly. I say style, of but I actually don’t enjoy cooking at all so the less time spent doing it the better!

I like 1000 Vegetarían Recipes which I bought for a fiver in Woolworths 20 years ago but we are much taken with the new Jamie’s cookbook
