Meatballs in onion gravy with home made chips cooked in our new hot air fryer and peas - quite tasty, hubby woofed the lot

Quick dinner for us too; some leftover roast beef from the freezer heated through in gravy and vegetables freshly picked this morning from the garden; brussel sprouts and purple sprouting broccoli.

I did a vegan concoction...everything thrown in with 1 calorie spray. Chopped potato, red onion, red and yellow peppers, stewed tomatoes, tofu pieces, courgette, mushrooms and herbs. Very tasty.

Home made spag bog and fresh, ripe pears with smoked Poacher cheese to follow.

Thanks for that, kl, I'm a bit of a potato nut so will certainly give that a go.

breeze, I made Mary Berry's Harissa Lamb the other week, but used minced lamb instead of fillet (as I didn't have any); it was still delicious, and I served it with rice.

Have come late to this thread, but as it was Friday yesterday I had a homemade chicken curry - DH and I always had curry on a Friday throughout our marriage (nearly 46 years), and it is comforting to still do so.
Tonight will be steak, (medium rare), jacket potato, onion rings and peas - and red wine!
Tomorrow (Sunday) I will put a sausage casserole in the slow cooker for lunch, then I am off to a rugby match followed straight away by a concert with DD, so no time for a meal in between.

A lamb tagine and couscous, rhubarb and yoghurt for pud!

We had Mary Berrys' Harissa lamb last night with couscous that had fresh coriander, preserved lemons, spring onions and red chilli mixed in. Mmmm. I cook that instead of tagines lately as it's so damned good.

Tonight we have seabass with homemade J.O. tartare sauce, pea puree and some jacket wedges. One of DH's favourites.

I have been trying to (finally) lose my illness lard. I've lost 24lbs since last mid Sept. Around a pound a week I guess as I went up a bit over Christmas but lost it again. It's hard but I've swapped wine for gin which has helped. Less calories. And just eating a bit less. Still can't do loads to burn calories, which is irritating but haven't done bad I suppose. I put on a HUGE amount of weight when I was ill. Ill for 5 years. 5 stones I had never been fat my whole life so it was a bit of a shock it just piled on but I was too frightened and depressed to notice or care.

Coming off now thank goodness but looking forward to that fish this evening. Yummy

"Afternoon tea" is tea and scones with jam!

Maman potatoes, greciangirl.

Potatoes (I use Maris pipers) peeled and cut into 1 cm dice.

Into a smoking hot frying pan with some oil (not olive) and cook, stirring around often, until they are cooked through and golden brown.

Add thinly sliced shallot and knob of butter, season well and toss around for a couple of minutes.

Scatter with plenty of chopped parsley.

Really simple but we love them.

Over the db for the rugby this afternoon. He’s made beef stew. Looking forward to it.

Shepherds pie for me tonight.... got Sainsbury’s delivery later on today so hope they don’t forget my lambs mince and carrots. Roast chicken Sunday as the grandchildren and daughter coming for lunch.

I'll just stir the deep freeze round and see what floats to the top...I'm not hot on labelling so it could be a real surprise!

I bought the equivalent of topside of beef on Thursday as it was on special offer and got an almost 3kg whole piece for just over €14. I will divide it up for different meals. I was thinking of beef olives tonight and then remembered we havent any mushrooms so I think I shall be mincing some and have meaty potato bake tonight and a roast tomorrow. I'll cut some slices for beef olives and then freeze them for later.
It's lovely to feel well enough again to do some cooking although I sit to do most of the preparation.

That will be really exotic Margs.

For me today it's chicken breast with small, crispy potatoes - a mix of sweet and ordinary - with a warm salad of lentils, with finely chopped apples and shallot cooked with garlic and fennel seeds too maybe. Tomorrow it's a ham, pea and mint stew, with finely sliced buttery savoy cabbage and crusty bread to mop up the juices - or mashed potatoes, not sure which yet.

Reliable pasta & a jar of ready-made pesto. Maybe plonk a couple of fish fingers on top for an "exotic" touch.

Set an extra place please!

Yep I'm completely with you GG78. The only time I get 'interesting' food rather than homely joys is when I lunch out.

Am I the only one who isn't really bothered about food? I used to cook for my husband, who worked 'continental shifts' (meals at all kinds of weird times) and my 5 children. I used to do lots of baking too.

Now that I am on my own I rarely bother with cooking anything that takes more than 20 minutes. I have fruit for breakfast. I make a big batch of soup, and usually have a bowl with some toast, for lunch. Dinner/tea is something healthy, but quick and easy to prepare. I haven't even thought about tonight's meal yet.
