Microwaving beetroots

just done them. they took a bit longer to cook than recommended - they were fairly large beets - and are delicious. thank you!

Thank you. I usually bake them in foil, but CBA to put the oven on.
Nanabilly do you cover the beets with water, or cover the dish?
I'll let you know how I get on.

I'm going to try microwaving them, probably with water in a casserole dish method.

I always microwave beetroot.
Try to get them all the same size but if not then just remove the smaller ones first as they will cook quicker.
Cut ends of roots \stalks off but do not go into the beet or they will bleed .leave 1 or 2 cms on each end to be sure.
Do not pierce beets.
Add cold water in Pyrex or similar dish and put beets in . Water should just cover beets.
Put on high for about 12 mins . This is what I do for about 8 / 10 beets .if fewer then reduce slightly .
If you like them crunchy then reduce time . I like them soft. If the beets are massive then they will take longer .

I think you are all wonderful. It would never occur to me to do anything with beetroot other than remove a few slices at a time from a pre-prepared jar full.

I have microwaved beetroot, but it was a long time ago. I know I used an old pyrex casserole dish with a lid, and put cold water, not much, probably a couple of tablespoonfuls, in with the beets. Then cooked them on high for approx 10 mins. I was hoping someone had used this method and would post the instructions. But for what it's worth, that was my method. The skins then slipped off easily. I also remember not cutting them, as they 'bleed'. Happy beetrooting.

Depends on your oven, but another way is scrub them, then put on a baking tin and bake when you've got something else in the oven. Best if it's a casserole or other slow cooked dish.
Peel when they cool.

I like them roasted with garlic, thyme and red onions (but I always peel them first, wearing latex gloves!).

I've never microwaved beetroot. The only way I can get them soft is to pressure cook them for 20 minutes. Looking forward to hearing the results.

Maybe pierce skin first ?
