I bought a huge lettuce today, salad bowl type. Cut off the base and put it in the sink to wash, but no sign of any soil or dirt

I think it must be one of those hydroponic ones - are they just as good for you?
Struggling with estrangement from 2 adult children and dont know where to go from here.
