Small batches of jam - no pectin required

apricot I get that but small batches allows spontaneity, using up perhaps,some bought fruit (like the melon I had) and this method takes very little effort...

It doesn't seem worth the effort to make small batches. I pick the fruit day by day and put it straight into the freezer. When I've got several pounds I make jam.
This year I've decided to do away with my strawberries and raspberries after they've fruited so this is the last of about 40 tears of jam-making. Sad but something else to give up in old age.

Well you had to mare sure it tasted just right.

I have scoffed tasted my jam all morning and it is truly delicious. I put some ginger in with the melon (just a smidgen) and used undiluted elderflower cordial when I macerated it.

I have started making jam's etc in smallish pots as we don't eat Jam regularly. These pots are about 300mls. All are re-used pots very well washed in the dishwasher. I probably ought to renew the lids though.

My first small batch of jam is a great success, I was up at the crack of dawn to finish it.

I usually do punnet of strawberries, about 1 lb, 12oz of sugar, juice of a lemon, cut straws in half, add sugar and lemon, microwave for about 5min, give a good stir, to dissolve the sugar, Usually 18min does it. I then just keep it in the fridge in a pot, it has never gone moldy, it keeps well. and it is lovely

I've never had success with sugary stuff in the microwave - how do you do it, newist?

Whenever I can get cheaper strawberries, not easy here, I always make jam, only 1 punnets worth in the microwave.

My mother used to make small quantities like that. Especially lemon curd and bramble jelly.
