Quality Street or Roses: that is the question!

I love chocolate - any kind, that's how I put on lots of weight in the last few years. I do think that the large boxes of quality street and Roses, are just too big and I get tired of them after a while despite liking them.
Smaller boxes are best, I also love any variety of Thorntons and M&S but Im quite happy with a bar of Cadburys. So hope Santa brings me some this year.

I don't have chocolate in the house over Christmas, but if I was forced to choose, it would be Quality Street purple hazelnut caramels, available separately.

None of the above. I bought some small Quality Street green triangle bars the other day for stocking fillers and after a stressful morning I decided to raid one of them.

They were so dreadfully sweet that after couple of pieces I threw the rest away and had a good cup of tea to wash the taste from my mouth.

Dark chocolate only for me.

Well, I threw caution to the wind and bought chocolate liqueurs in P'land

After a careful and thorough testing (which involved the whole box!) I can only say that I went back and bought six more boxes to put in my DC's hampers They were surprisingly good and didn't have the crunchy sugar inside which I've experienced in the past with 'good' brands and the chocolate was dark and lovely.

Ana I so agree about Black Magic. Not at all like they used to be. In fact, I have cancelled my regular birthday/Xmas order request with DD. I miss the marzipan and coffee ones.

Champagne truffles from Hotel Chocolat are pure unadulterated pleasure.... and you can actually taste the Champagne

gilly I was beginning to think I was the only one who shopped at Hotel Chocolat. I always buy the big slabs for my brood and they love them. For Christmas I like to get them something they wouldn't get themselves.

Interesting that most of you seem to prefer the soft ones so please send me all your spare toffees and nutty ones.

Several years ago the Observer was recommending Lidl's chocolates for dinner parties because the chocolate is really good and your posh friends won't recognise the packaging and will think you've bought something really exclusive.

Aldi are doing some nice selections for Christmas. I used to love Black Magic, but they're just not the same now.

I can happily sit after Xmas and (very carefully) chomp away on the toffees nonnie.

I've never bought a tin/box of Roses, Street or anything like that at Christmas, as it is too tempting for me. This year though, I have bought a large tin of Celebrations after giving myself a 'it's not all about you' talking to.

DH has just come back from Sainbury with a dark chocolate orange!! Must stop eating it

Strangely enough, at this time of year we sometimes enjoy a bag of Liquorice Allsorts and/or Jelly Babys, with perhaps the odd Chocolate Orange. Whether Bassetts, Trebor and Terry's still exist I really don't know.

OH who cares really? It's all chocolate. Of course some will get eaten first-Charbonnel and Walker, Thorntons etc. But after that the rest will go as well I'm very broad minded and not at all "brandist" about my chocolate!

I do like the Purple Ones though!

I prefer Cadbury's chocolate to Belgian chocolate and I hate dark chocolate.

I like the gungy sweetness.

Ah yes, the purple ones are the only ones I like - no allowed in the house though, as grandson allergic to ... nuts!

I love liquorice allsorts, but only Bassett's. All others are pale imitations. They still make them here in Sheffield, but they are now Cadbury Schweppes Trebor Bassett! Is there anything that hasn't been swallowed up by something else?

Dad always used to give my mother a box of Black Magic for her birthday. They were a luxury in the early fifties and if I was good I was allowed my favourite coffee cream. A box of chocolates used to last a long time as nobody would have dreamed of just passing them round and scoffing the lot.

The first time DH gave me a box of BM I tried to re-create the glamour (and restraint) but they were all gone the next morning.

I agree, they're not the same now.

Marzipan...I remember from last year that Lidl did a bar of liqueur chocolate covered marzipan in different flavours. The rum and raisin was particularly fine...
