Full page ad by Asda in today's Sunday Telegraph Stella magazine for "Scotch Pancakes" - all 9 flavours apparently.
May I make this clear
1) there is nothing "Scotch" about them under this designation
2) They. are. not. pancakes
They are drop scones - also known as girdle scones.
Not pancakes.
Got it?
As such they may well be Scottish, but I imagine other areas such as Yorkshire or Wales can lay claim to a similar baked good.

I've just had a rice flour pancake with bean sprouts and shrimps and something unrecognisable,I'm a day late but I'm in Vietnam and missed out yesterday

Made pancakes yesterday as I do every year on the "special day".Grandsons first out of school,no dilly dallying ,desperate to make and eat Scotch pancakes,always have been and always will be the real deal for me.

Thick pancakes, mad with sr flour are scotch pancakes and always have been they're also called drops ones. Scotch is whiskey or anything scotish except people were scots. Call me 'scotch' an I'll say 'yes please malt, with a little water'.

To be strictly accurate, Mogsmaw, Scotch is whisky; Irish is whiskey. A relative who makes the best Scottish pancakes told me that they should not be made with SR flour but plain flour with baking soda added. When little bubbles appear on the surface, that is the time to turn them over to cook on that side.
