Thought we needed a shiny new thread for the New Year.
The thread is intended to support people who are already on the diet or want to start losing weight / gaining health benefits by low-carbing.
Here is a simple explanation of this way of eating and how it works.
www.dietdoctor.com/lchf
You do not have to count calories, weigh anything, exercise furiously or feel hungry.
You do have to cut out sugar and sugar-substitutes and avoid starchy foods like potatoes, bread, rice and pasta.
You need to eat lots of vegetables (especially those grown above ground) and protein which can be cheese, eggs, meat, fish etc. You can eat olive oil, butter and other natural fats. You can eat limited amounts of fruit, dark chocolate and some alcoholic drinks in moderation.
You need to avoid anything labelled low-fat and most processed food and drink.
Here is a link to the Mumsnet low-carb bootcamp thread, for those who want to lose weight more quickly than the diet adopted by most people on the existing Gransnet thread.

Here is a link to the original Gransnet thread - though there is absolutely no need to plough through it before you start.

Welcome now (hangs head in shame)
That sound yummy Mamie - enjoy
The aubergine cheesecake was a great success and so easy to make - highly recommended.
I followed The Guardian recipe and just doubled the amounts and used a deep roasting tin. Next time I will add a bit more oregano and a hint of chilli flakes.
Wish I'd taken a photo as it looked really lovely - better than the picture in the article! I served it with a green salad and roasted red peppers
We are on a fast day. So it was a walk this morning ( heard a cuckoo) then back for breakfast . DH smoked salmon and scrambled egg, me , avocado and scrambled egg. Tonight chicken salad.
Bit down at the moment as weight again seems to be stuck . Hey Ho onward and upward
How was the cauliflower merlot? I keep meaning to try that.
We are trying to clear the freezer before we start on this year's crops, so tonight it will be a selection of things labelled "possibly Persian vegetable stew" or "courgette jalfrezi or similar".
We are off to one of the big markets round here today and I think the summer fruit is starting to come up from the south so the annual temptation of cherries, apricots, melons and peaches will start....
I feel a bit more positive this morning. We had 2 fasting days back to back and 2 long walks, and I have lost 2lb. The lovely weather has helped. A bit overcast today though. Still glass half full
I missed the programme, but found the recipe on line and it seems to include a lot of date syrup? I was thinking that it might be possible to add figs (and a spot of brandy?) to my chocolate mousse made with only chocolate and eggs.
Riverwalk thanks for the reminder about the aubergine cheesecake. Couldn't think what to have last night, but had everything for that apart from cream cheese, so I improvised with a bit of blue, bit of goat and a bit of squidgy French stuff from the fridge collection.
Tonight we are having monkfish with garlic and sherry with cauliflower (we are going to grow them this year!) with saffron, pinenuts and raisins. All from the Moro book.
Enjoy it - it is a lovely recipe.
We had a bizarre experience last night. Some friends came for dinner and brought a lovely cake from the patisserie which we ate and enjoyed. We then both had a dreadful night with busy brain, racing heart and hot flushes (me). Reaction to sugar?
Tonight we are having sausages including plain pork, merguez and a pork sausage with cheese in it and I am doing a salad of broccoli, roasted red pepper and avocado.
