Monday 12th November weigh in.
(42 Posts)I can start the loss total this week glass with a loss of 0.6 of a pound (arghh!) but at least it is a loss.
Like last week I was really good keeping to MFP but I have a theory that perhaps I am eating the wrong calories 
Seriously - I do find that when I have bread the weight seems to react so this week I am going to have a bread-free week to test it out!
Over the last couple of weeks I have had to have sandwiches on occasions - always healthy ones - but nonetheless bread and have lost less than a pound both weeks.
This week I will be bread-free and have crispbreads or rice cakes just as an experiment [saint emoticon] ?
Won't keep that up forever though as I do my my homemade bread!

Digby seems to have lost 2oz, but I can't be totally sure as his tummy was obscuring part of the display.
Done it - got to my next target. It took me a loooong time! I started 4 years ago with a number that started with a 9, than an 8, now a 7 -
Another 1, to 1 and half stones to go, or 10 kg- to a comfortable 14/16 size.
I used to be much slimmer than that, but I think I'd look haggard - and being too thin when older is not safe.
A neighbour gave me a pile of magazines, the equivalent of SAGA mag in the UK. A very interesting article about being under-weight post 70 being far more dangerous than being a bit overweight. Even with a minor weight loss of 1 kilo per year (2lbs)- this can quickly add to being dangerously underweight over a decade (=10 kg= 1 stone and a half approx) with little chance of ever re-gaining sufficient weight to be healthy. My parents were both perfect weight at 70, and had never been overweight, but they both were bags of bones by the time they died. So a bit of reserve is good for you beyond 70, honest.

Well done on another target reached though! I agree re not being underweight as we get older - we need a bit to survive on!
Thanks Pud for your encouragement re the bread - just an experiment as I do seem to retain weight when I have 'bready' weeks even though I stay under the calorie limit. I am

Sorry, missed another week, but I can report a loss of 1.1kg over the past 2 weeks! That was a nice surprise this morning, although part of it may be because I have an empty arm, having been to Blood Donors yesterday...
However, as I have a birthday and a few days away with Mr When for a bit of self-indulgence in the eating and drinking department this week, I expect it to be reversed by next week
.

spagran - the last time I was under 8 stone I was 23, and had been breasfeeding number 1 DD for about a year - the weight just dropped off me, and I was too thin. Got pregnant soon after, and never lost the weight the same way after number 2 - although I breastfed her for the same amount of time. No way do I want to go back to being a size 10- I'd look haggard.
For me I was 19 and just had glandular fever! I looked terrible!

sba bread does that to me bloats me and makes me retain weight, red wine has the same effect. I bet it does the usual and will show in one lump.

I actually lost very little this week, only about 1 lb, but I had been waiting for a couple of weeks to go over the 'magic number' 
let me in urgent, got my knee xray results moderate osteo arthritis also lecture on losing weight!! not really suprised, got myself upset due to I explained hard to focus with my personal heartache and came over tearful!!
still going back to writing down all I eat!!!
lost 2lb in last week (put on 3 last weekend) so quite pleased really. GOT TO KEEP GOING!!!!!!!!!!!

I logged in very late last week on Friday when I got back and declared a loss of 0.5lbs. I don't know if that was counted?
I've lost another 0.5lbs this week. Very slow but at least going down.
Celeb try My Fitness Pal as I think it will suit you as you are used to writing everything down - it will tally up your calorie count and tell you how much more (or less
) you should be eating. A lot of us are using it including me!

Sorry to have missed last week - yet another bug. They really are breeding a different lot these days. 30 years in teaching and I never went down with anything , now I seem to catch something every ten days from one of the different groups of children that I work with in a voluntary capacity .
The good news , however, is that I have lost 1lb, bringing to me to the lowest weight in YEARS ( and 5 lbs since I started on mfp ) Brilliant . Really happy at this weight . Now just trying to maintain without going up and down too violently .

Celeb getting onto My Fitness Pal is easy and most importantly FREE!
Type My Fitness Pal into Google and the website will come up - follow the instructions to register (you will need an ID, a password and an email address) and the rest follows.
They will ask several questions re your age, height, lifestyle etc and from that you will be given your recommended calorie intake.
Click on FOOD and you will get a page with today's date on it - Under breakfast click on 'add food' and then enter in what you have had (or intend to have!) - a drop down menu will appear and you choose the nearest which then appears on your daily diary! It tells you how many calories you have used and how many you have left. Do the same with the other meals and snacks.
The best way to learn how to use MFP is trial and error - there is no penalty if you get it wrong! If you enter something that you then want to remove there is a little 'no entry' sign at the end of the line - click on that and it goes away!
Hope this doesn't confuse you - it's difficult when you can't actually show someone what you mean!
Your regular entries for each meal will gradually appear on a dropdown menu for you just to 'click to add' which saves time as well.
You can also enter any exercise you take and MFP will give you extra calories in your daily total!
One great benefit is that you can plan ahead what you want to eat and enter it BEFORE you eat it. That way if it will take you into the red you can make an adjustment and keep to your target. It will also tell you if you are not eating enough calories - again very useful.
One thing I discovered myself recently (after how many weeks???) was that if you type a food in and then just want to change the amount you don't have to delete it completely - just click on the item and a little window will open allowing you to change the entry! So much easier than starting again!
Lots of us losers use MFP so any problems just come onto this thread and someone is bound to be available to advise you!

I also have joined fitnesspal , I was surprised how good it is .
For example , bread ordinary slice 119 cals , nimble 58 . Have started having low cal. yogs and was surprised how few cals. in them .
What I think is great is that you put everytnihng down , and makes you think , No I must not have that as it takes me over my allowance .
I hope I can do as well as the rest of you , I need to lose a stone by February, so fingers crossed for us all . 
Personally I would rather have half a slice of very satisfying 'proper' bread, than feel totally empty after munching on blotting paper - which is what Nimble feels like to me. Or have a very thin layer of butter on it- which would taste wonderful, than some low cal spread. Or a small piece of tasty cheese, than lower cal pap. But I agree, each to their own - and as Dave Allen said .. may your god go with you. It's taken me a longer time getting there with the above method perhaps- but I think using these awful tasting diet products is the reason people can't stick with them long-term, and we get this yo-yo effect.
I think it depends on how strong the desire to lose weight is !
I find lo cal food perfectly satisfying .
Suppose it is all about re-educating taste buds , I rather like Nimble now I have tasted it .
