If he is anything like his mother you can see where the superior attitude comes from. The Ozzies are playing by the rules, good for them. He can go home if he wants to.

Novak Djokovic
(428 Posts)Do you think his exemption from covid vaccination is a bit odd? I understand Australians are not happy about letting him into the country and the likelihood is that he will be booed when he plays according to Andrew Castle.
Australia is relying on vaccine protection at the moment because they haven’t got immunity from prior infection thanks to their strict covid rules. They can’t make an exception for this man.
He should never have been told he had an exemption then he would not have travelled, or he would have got his jabs.
My view is if you are going into a country to visit or earn your millions as in his case then get your jabs.
If you don`t believe in the vaccine then don`t travel - simple.
Heard on the news earlier that another tennis player’s right to be there is being investigated and meanwhile she is being held in the same hotel as Djokovic.
A Czech woman apparently.
I had to laugh at a quote from an official denying he was being ‘held prisoner’ as his father has claimed.
She said he is free to leave at any time and that the Australian Border Force would facilitate his departure!!
i am not into sport but we are told that the virus is less transmittable if a) the people are more than 2 metres apart and b) in the outdoors. Tennis falls into that category
where the issue falls down is the flights back and forth to Australia .
so is the fault due to the tennis player or the fault of the person issuing the visa?
this is the problem of letting sport rule the world. The virus rate was low before the UK government allowed crowds to watch football etc
Very true, MayBee70
I'm a regular Wimbledon visiter and I've also been lucky enough to go to the French Open and NY.
I have yet to meet anyone who actively "likes* Novak. You mention Nadal, Murray, Federer, even bad boy Kyrgios and people will be excited to see them in action. Never have I known a tennis player as disliked as Djokovic.
Why? I'm not entirely sure. You're right, he does crave adoration and he doesn't get it. It really wouldn't matter who he was playing in most matches, the crowd will be behind his opponent.
Whether he makes it through on Monday I've no idea. I did read that it appears to be Australia Tennis who have made an error. They did point out that people who've had the infection within the last 6 months may be allowed entry without vaccine but the word may is pretty huge as is the reluctance of the main government.
Just a mess. He should do himself a favour and leave peacefully. Might do his image a bit of good as well.
I am pleased that the posts I have read so far agree with me that he should definately not be given any special dispensation to enter Australia.
Why should he be treated any differently it is pure arrogance that he thinks as No 1 he would get away with it and there wouldn't be a backlash - well I'm glad there was. It might make other non vaccinated think twice. I've been trying to get to see my family in Oz for 2 years - I missed the wedding I'd been invited to.
It reminds me of the Border Patrol programmes - how many people are stopped as they "don't know" they shouldn't be carrying certain food etc in to Oz -what nonsense they are trying it on.
I believe if your visa is revoked you sometimes have to wait a while before you can try to visit again - hope this is the case and that Oz don't back down - it's not political, it's their rules. If you travel abroad you should respect that countrys rules and customs (that should be the same for UK too)
Now, I’m not someone that expects sporting heroes to be ‘nice’ people, because it takes a certain amount of aggression and self centreredness to rise to the top in most sports, but there still needs to be a basic decent ness and I just don’t think he has that. He seems to crave adoration from people but doesn’t understand why he doesn’t get it. Look how Murray went from someone quite irritating to someone (well me anyway) we all admire. I only caught the end of a conversation on Radio Sport 927 last night about it….I’ll try again tonight.
I hope the Australians send him packing. He’s free to leave whenever he likes. He should get his self respect together and leave.
Well, I can now understand better why he is such an unpleasant man, having read that his parents have likened his detention to being crucified. Even Jesus might find that hard to forgive.
Very much doubt if he has a medical exemption to allow him in with no vaccination. Even if he does he will still need to isolate according to the Au. rules. It seems to be another case of ' Look I'm an important rich sports person therfore I am entitled'. He can have his own beliefs but they don't make him exempt from rules. He is not detained, he can fly away in his private plane anytime.
It should be a level playing field for all.
I doubt very much if any of us were to try to enter Australia without proof of vaccine we would be allowed entry.
(I am vaccinated X3)

Am I alone and being truly horrible in hoping that the decision goes against him?
No, me too. You're not alone.
Same rules for everyone I say
Am I alone and being truly horrible in hoping that the decision goes against him?
He is not being kept as a prisoner the Australian authorities have said repeatedly that he is free to leave Australia whenever he wishes.
It is his decision to wait until the court makes it decision on Monday.
who?
His mother is talking about him being kept prisoner in a Covid Hotel. An Australian government spokesperson denied that saying ‘he’s free to go home whenever he wants’. Well said!
I'm just hoping that the hotel is playing re-runs of Nothing to Declare - he's been lucky so far, many that turn up with incorrect paperwork are returned from whence they came, on the next available flight.
He is not being kept prisoner - security is there to stop anyone placed in quarantine from leaving the hotel - he can leave the country if he wants to!
Really hope that the Federal judge sticks with this ruling - if he allows him to stay, it will be a real kick in the teeth for all Australians that are still stuck overseas due to the few available flights they can go home on and also people like my ex husband who works in China who had to pay for his own quarantine ( 3x the usual room price) in order to see his sister the day before she died.
The tennis authorities need to stand up and explain why they thought it was acceptable he was even allowed into the country.
This just confirms what an arrogant man he is. The fact that he seemed to think that Australia would rewrite the rule book for him speaks volumes.

He shouldn't be allowed to compete IMO. Was it last year that he organised a tournament and some of those attending had/caught Covid?
Like many on GN, we have a son in Aus who we haven't been able to see for more than 2 years. Double jabbed and had the booster, we've no idea when we'll be able to see him again.
Yes I was angry at his attitude at his illegal tournament! I think he's so he'll bent on the title he doesn't give a dried fig for anything or anyone else! Selfish and prepared to lie to get his own way, I cannot imagine how medically compromised he actu can be being an elite sports person anyway , anyone know?
A problem for the Aussies, not us!
Novax Djokovic is entitled to refuse vaccination if he wants but equally Australia is entitled to maintain its borders and deny access to unvaccinated people. The court's in his balls now.

BBC. News flash.
Visa cancelled, for deportation Thursday.
Seems we’re too soon. He’s now in quarantine awaiting a decision on Monday. His parents on tv ranting about him being kept prisoner. You can see where he gets his attitude from.
