Joy abounds.
So let’s have a thread for the summer lovers
Hundreds of illegal migrants to be put in existing military barracks
I’ve just read that Chris Whitty has said that England could be sent into another lockdown within weeks as Covid cases are rising fast. Am I imagining it or is this not the same Chris Whitty who stood alongside BJ only last Monday and appeared to endorse lifting restrictions from the 19th? How can anyone have any faith in this government they obviously don’t have a clue what to do next.
O
Joy abounds.

Interesting that it was mentioned that the U.K. was talking about aiming for a strategy of herd immunity in March 2020. Back then it was assumed that it was Cummings that was advocating it. Given that he’s no longer influencing the government in this strategy who, now is. Algeria’s. Without re reading the whole thread again can I just ask you for a yes no answer to my question of ‘do you personally agree with what the U.K. is planning to do on 19th July’.
My post answering this was at 14:28 today.
The answer was "no".
My objection is to using unreliable information and project fear to influence people's perceptions of, and reactions to, this pandemic.
And it's not the UK, it's England.

Today’s numbers, plus, apparently there is an unseasonable occurrence of Norovirus, deep joy.

I’ve also read that the medics are predicting 60,000 flu deaths this winter.
Thanks for your kind words Alegrias1.
*MayBee70 it is England, not the UK which is lifting virtually all restrictions on 19th July. The FM in Wales has always been cautious, and is doing what is within his power to keep the virus under control here. He has publicly said that he doesn’t agree with some of the measures being taken in England but has no choice but to go along with them, quarantine for foreign travel being one of them. I do support what’s happening here, and I do think Boris has gone too far - not for political reasons, but because of the evidence from the numbers.

I don't think any of the medical or scientific (real ones) community were ever keeping this information from us but, as we know, it is the politicians who make the decisions, heaven help us.

My Dr predicted this wave
And possibly another when I asked him about returning to face to face appointments. Sadly I think he is right and we will be having yet another lockdown in Sept as schools return and the enjoyment of summer is over. I have already gone back into lockdown as I am cv.
NEW: Prof Michael Baker, official advisor to NZ government:
“In NZ we've always looked to UK for leadership..it's why it just seems so remarkable you're not following even basic public health principles.
"We & my colleagues in NZ are quite astounded that you're doing this"
On the ITV news earlier today, we were told by a person that after an investigation on how the virus spread, the results showed masks stopped the rate of infection by 90 per cent. The answer seems to be freedom with a mask.
I hope you don't mind me saying this Casdon, but that is a measured post.
I’m not a scaremonger, but based on the information that is factual, like the rapidly growing infection rates, vaccination percentages, hospitalisation rates, long covid rates, and complication rates I am seriously concerned that the Government has made some decisions which are based more on politics than science, and there will be avoidable deaths and long term conditions in young people which would not be happening had they been more prudent.
One thing’s for sure, we’ll soon know.

I'm saying that putting such a statement on a forum with no context and in the heat of a discussion is scaremongering.
I really don't mind if you take me seriously or not.
There is context the link to the summit in Daismays post is there for everyone to read.
So I take it that you have declined to refute the scientists?

^Who said vaccines are shrinking children's brains?^
What I wrote wasn't clear. Nobody's said vaccines are shrinking children's brains.
Covid is, apparently. Such a statement out of context will scare people. It's scaremongering.
No it is not scaremongering. Absolutely not.
People need every tiny bit of knowledge in order to try to protect themselves from this governments appalling strategy.
Are you saying that covid does not affect children’s major organs including the brain, and are you also denying that more children are being affected than first thought.
Watch the summit then come back with a refutation of much of the facts and I will take you seriously.
At present it is only opinion.
What's your branch of science again?
Nice try. It's as close to epidemiology as is that of the professor studying conversation dynamics.
Surprising as it may be, not all scientists are created equal when it come to having a view on epidemiology. Some mathematicians will agree with Indy SAGE, some won't. Just saying "1200 scientists agree" is misleading.

I'm not denying anything. I'm just not putting unsubstantiated facts out in the Internet to feed the fear that is evident on this forum.
I'm not saying you are growstuff but this thread is full of it and it's not right, IMO.
Well, I'm glad you're not saying I am, because you're "facts" aren't even correct.

Thank you Alegrias1 the voice of reason.
The voice of denial more like.
Yes, but African countries don't have cutting edge science and technology. They don't even pretend to be world leaders. We have advantages they don't have and we're squandering them.
Thank you Alegrias1 the voice of reason.

I'm not allowed to say panicking, or scaremongering, so let's try "jumping to conclusions without all the facts."
Genocide, vaccines aren't effective and shrinking children's brains. What's that if it's not scaremongering? It's irresponsible.
Interesting summit. Sorry, but its the usual suspects. Independent SAGE and a few of their friends. Scientists have agendas and hobby horses, just like everyone else. Even Taiwanese and Israeli ones.
I think the opening up in England is premature, but I'm not going any further than that. As for being a threat to the world, has nobody thought that there are much bigger reservoirs of unvaccinated people in, say, Africa, that might be a bigger threat?
Have you watched it?
Are you saying that you know better than scientists from USA, NZ Italy USA U.K. Taiwan India South Africa
Perhaps you would care to watch it and give it careful critique because until then your post doesn’t hold water.
