Oxford Vaccine approved

I think the idea of giving the vaccine to as many people as possible, before giving the second dose, is that, once you have had the first dose, if you do get covid, you will only have it mildly enough to not need not hospitalisation. Thus avoiding the hospitals being overwhelmed, as is beginning to be happening at the moment.

I keep getting ads for people to train to be vaccinators (no previous experience needed) on my Twitter feed. I must admit that doesn't inspire much confidence.

My grandsons girlfriend had a text asking if she would be willing to train. She’s doing child psychology.

They wanted her to work 2 days a week for 8 hrs. Not sure what she has decided to do.

Thank you, but that site doesn't give the details of efficacy in various subgroups. Even when going to the "Lancet", the latest details are from 8 December, which are a bit woolly. It was that data which was initially rejected and the reason why the FDA has requested more trials before approval.

I still can't find any confirmation of efficacy amongst older people.

I know. I've read it and it doesn't give the information I was interested in.

BTW I'm not the only one asking questions about efficacy in over 55s. A number of scientists are asking the same and have been told there will be no further data until Jan/Feb.

I still don't doubt the safety, but I wish they'd be more transparent because this just fuels conspiracy theories.

I suspect that the absence of further publications reflects the waiting period for peer-reviewed papers.

Humptydumpty I think the website is great, the shortcoming is though that they don’t put information onto it related to trial data until it’s all validated, which results in a time lag in the public getting the same information that the doctors, scientists etc. receive.

Exactly! It isn't available and that does concern me slightly. I would rather Oxford and AZ were transparent. I think they've handled this really badly, especially as few people believe government spin.

So somebody comes along and claims that the announcement has been made to coincide with putting most of the country into Tier 4, even though the data shows only 62% efficacy and hardly any data for over 55s, who need the vaccine most.

I want to refute the claim and be able to write "No, the trial data on xxx showed that it's effective, even for elderly people and here's a link". I can't do that because there is no trial data in the public domain and people are expected to believe Matt Hancock (ahem).

I've read that link too. In fact, I've posted it at least twice myself. It's very short on detail.

That is how smallpox, diphtheria, polio and other lethal diseases were tamed and sent packing, by denying them homes in those healthy bodies that had learnt how to neutralise them. How many people do you know who have had smallpox, diphtheria or polio? Before vaccinations, they were killers, or they marked and crippled for life.

What concerns me is if there has been government pressure on the MRHA. I fervently hope not.

I sincerely hope not too. The trouble is that I honestly don't trust much this government says. They've got form for exaggerating and telling outright lies.

I have given up listening to anything they say because I simply no longer believe or trust HMG to be honest.
