As Ashcombe said and anyone using their brain would conclude, there are less colds/flu/other viruses around because most of us are being extremely careful. Our young grandchildren sing two rounds of happy birthday as they frequently wash their hands. Masks in busy places help prevent the spread of colds and flu.
I hope the greater care being taken continues.

Totally agree and doesn’t it just show that being more conscious of how you conduct yourself hygiene wise makes such a huge difference out there, I had the worst flu from my husband’s friend who stayed with us some years ago. His dentist called him to advise she had a flu and it was ok if he wanted to cancel but he said no it was ok and went ahead with the appointment. A few days later gets on a plane, probably infected plenty of people. Then my husband who collected him from the airport, then me, and after 2 days with us gets on another international flight, really suffering by this time but sod it he’s on holiday. Totally selfish,

To 2montana, my stepdaughter works as a consultant in intensive care, and has seen many deaths, At my stepdaughters hospital the staff have had counselling because as she said "I became a doctor to save lives, not see them looking a bit better and then dying the next day", she was in tears .Obviously she is used to to seeing death, but not on that scale. I assume from you name that you are in America, there seem to be a lot of conspiracy theories there.

If his dentist really had 'flu, there is no way he/she would have been able to work. They probably had a bad cold, not 'flu.

With 'flu, the sufferer cannot even get out of bed for anything - let alone get up, get dressed, and go to work.

It is similar to people who call every headache 'a migraine'.

2Montana I have never met anyone who has had smallpox either, but I am know it is deadly, and that there was an outbreak when I was about 13. Think yourself very lucky that you have not lost family or friends to CoVid, as several people I know have. Do you think they were misdiagnosed, or hoaxing?

I know many who have had it. Including my own daughter and her 9 yr old son. My daughter is a nurse and returned to work today after 3 weeks of illness during which she had several days of being very unwell. She was short of breath, wheezing and had chest pains and required a course of steroids and inhalers.

She’s still not fully recovered but has dragged herself in to work because her colleagues are exhausted and have been for months.

I hope you will refuse treatment if you contract covid. Hospital staff are under enough stress caring for seriously ill and dying patients.

Jonathan Van-Tam is quite charismatic and a good communicator, hence we will be seeing a lot more of him on TV.
However, I do wonder whatever happened to Jenny Harries.
Thinking back she did answer some very tough questions back in the Spring.
Especially the ones about personal relationships, people being able to see their partners.
In fact the impact on single people of all age groups does not seem to have been mentioned quite as much as it could be.

Montana, a friend of ours died of Covid, she caught it at a hospital outpatient appointment. That had been the only contact she had with people outside her family home. She then infected her children who had been caring for her and they too became seriously ill. I also know of acquaintences who have died. ?

My DIL's mum works in Covid ICU and her sister in the Covid ward, where people are not expected to live. The majority die, without being able to say their goodbyes to family.
Both are broken and exhausted and feel they cannot go on much longer.

There is less evidence of colds and flu this year because many people have been staying at home and avoiding public places.

You seem to be living in a different universe from the rest of us, Montana. Frankly I'm shocked at your attitude. I take it that if you do contract Covid, that you will not be seeking any medical intervention, as you will probably refuse to acknowledge the fact that you actually have it.

If I was healthy, I would be first in line to trial this new vaccine (given the speed at which this vaccine has been designed and trialled, I believe th a t those that take up the vaccine at this stage are effectively part of a wider trial).

However I'm not healthy, and as I would not have been able to take part of the first three trials due to pre existing medical conditions, and medications , I will not be taking part in this wider trial.

I talk to many people about this subject and I am yet to find anyone who even knows of anyone who has had it. And I also note the absence of normal flu season this year. I haven’t had so much as a cold this year . Just saying. Why not think for yourselves.

I am flabbergasted.
There are more than a few on GN who have had Covid, who have lost friends or relatives to it. Even in my small village of 1000 people with low infection rates in our area, I know three ladies whom I have regularly met on dog walk, who have fortunately come through it.
So to use an expression, which planet are you on?

Of course some scientists have been working with the best intentions but to ignore the huge profits Pfizer sees in this vaccine is just stupid. Pfizer has done some very dodgy research and hidden side effects of drugs in the past. It is very difficult to find a complete list of all the money they have had to pay out over the years because there are so many actions. No one should go blindly into this experiment and what really surprises me is that anyone should think it is better that they don't know about things.

Lucca I don't of course have the answer and I am not egotistical enough to think I do. I have serious doubts about Pfizer and its record. I also have doubts about the timing of this breakthrough. Remember when the Oxford vaccine claimed to be nearly ready and Pfizer was behind them? Suddenly they have jumped ahead. Given their record of hiding side effects of drugs, producing inadequate heart valves and other drug violations. I really don't have confidence in them. I do think people need to inform themselves about the whole subject. There are still people posting who think they will be free to hug their GCs when they have the vaccination. They won't!

I took the bait and replied to Montana’s post while I was having a read on GN to take my mind off my daughter who has returned to work today after her second bout of covid 7 months apart.

Well I'm taking the news of the vaccine as a good sign and a reason for hope.

Nothing is perfect, living isn't without risk but for many people this news brings hope.

Hope and good news has been in very short supply this past year.

I will be having the vaccine when it gets round to my turn. I'm well down the list but that's ok.
