Blitz Balls this is the commercial version of the high-nutrition favourite. I make my own usually but was given a packet of Edmonds which I made up yesterday.
I'm hoping there was no 'Abu Dhabi effect' afterwards.

If anyone wants a recipe, let me know. Bliss Balls are so quick and easy to make.

Having read about huge increases in rental prices, I looked at lower-end prices on Book-a-Bach here; they're exactly the same.
In fact, I've noticed many price decreases across the board. Some companies have reduced or abolished shipping charges. Not sure how long that will last but it's certainly generated a lot more online sales.

I hope you get to Potfest Grammaretto it looks as if the organisers are doing all they can to help people stay safe.

I've walked barefoot all my life until about 10 years ago when the cushioing on my soles seemed to disappear and walking on bones is not advised.
Of course I wore shoes/sandals when required but just shopping or casual socialising I didn't bother.

I never have liked the way shoes brought dirt (and worse) into the house & carpets; washing feet is cleaner. Now, I leave my shoes in the porch, as does everyone else.

November 18th is Baby Day but my heart aches now for the poor lassie fighting for her IVF - I do hope things change for the better.

I'd love to do more; it's a never-ending, fascinating web isn't it?
I found a long-lost cousin, with whom I am now in regular touch, and that my granddad was a twin!
I suppose I'm so interested because our family (apart from said cousin in Cumbria) consists of just me and 2 sons. It's incredible thinking about how people lived way back in the past.

I do hope Cherry, Panache and all our other friends are staying safe and well.

I was reading your post about Ancestry and when I got to the bit where you said researched trees I thought you were going to say you were related to an Ash or Poplar or something. After re reading I now realise you meant family trees. My mind plays tricks on me at times.?

Grammaretto the Ancestry update is hilarious.....I am Irish, my DH is Cornish......I am a member of the Society of Genealogists and have researched our trees for many years. The update makes him more Irish than me, me more Scottish than Irish....and our son 10% Swedish and 7% Iberian. Now we both remember his creation because it was a bit memorable so he isn't the milkman's!

I'm going off the holiday idea the more I look. I think I'll plant a few more expensive larger shrubs instead!

Off to get more Vit D while it's in plentiful supply!

Mamissimo you are right about high cost of renting somewhere in this country now. I suppose people will charge what they can get away with. Supply and demand as they say.
The new rule of six is going to cause further disruption to holiday and party plans but with the infection rate growing I’m not sure what else can be done. We have seen total disregard for social distancing recently. Local parks have been the setting for huge groups of families picking together. I understand it is lovely to meet up but then that means those of us who have been following the rules are missing out again.

Bliss Balls however are a revelation! Thank you for bringing those into my life. It instantly brought back to mind a visit to the wholesale date market in Abu Dhabi. I think I sampled every kind of date in every kind of size and with every kind of stuffing. Total date fanciers heaven! But I wasn't very well later. ☹️?

I spent most of yesterday looking for a replacement holiday for Mr M and myself and I was horrified at the prices that some people are charging in the UK for cottage rentals. I understand that they lost a lot of income earlier in the year but the level of inflation was mind blowing and more than naughty.

A property we rented in February for £750 wanted £1200 for November....

Interestingly I didn't find the same inflation in hotel prices so today we will think again. I think we are also very concerned by the covidiot shenanigans and not totally enthusiastic. We may decide to wait till next year.

In other musings....I have a long list of particular plants to buy so I went to my favourite garden centre to see if they could supply any.....and in a nutshell....No! But I could have bought a poncho, a set of Christmas decorations and a personalised unicorn. Today I shall start ordering direct from nurseries.

Missedout No indeed, don't risk it, pools are not the cleanest places, despite the consant ministrations of the staff.
I wear Aqua-shoes, partly because I can't walk anywhere without pain, not even on carpet, in bare feet,
I also wear them to avoid fungal infection.
And that, after decades of walking in bare feet, summer and winter, indoors and out too. I know it sounds crazy but there's something exhilerating about walking barefoot in rain and snow...and it's actually much cleaner when you come home and step into a bowl of Dettolly water, rather than tread all that muck into your carpet.

Because I use a PC, I always right click and open up a new tab if I want to move to another GN page (or any extra webpage. ) That way, your original one, with your message, stays open but I don't know how that works on other devices.
I've also found it useful, as spammers get ever more canny at trying to fool you, to hover the cursor over their name (no need to open the email) and that comes up with the real address, not the one they're trying to fool you with.

My family popped over today bringing smoked, Pulled Pork, fresh out of the smoker this morning. Coleslaw, smoky BBQ sauce, all home made was the main course and I'd made a selection of sugar free treats for afters.

Childrens' Party fare really but my grandson loved Chocolate cornflake crackles, Rice Krispie Marshmallow fingers and Blitz Balls. These last went down well with everyone.

My dil is blooming and my son's smile goes from ear to ear. I'm so happy for him and my dgs will make a splendid big brother. So it was a grand, happy time in my house today.

We enjoyed exploring Old Sarum too. Have you ever read the book Sarum. It’s a mighty tome but a wonderful read.

Missedout my dentist told me when I had a big molar out that I may well feel down and a bit poorly for a few days as having a tooth out can cause shock. Only relieved by the loss of pain!

I hope you can re-arrange your family holiday Mammissimo. It can be a challenge to co-ordinate. I've been trying to get our lot together for a year or two but it seems doomed. There's always something - last time it was half term holidays being a week different.

We've just cancelled our bird watching trip to the Scilly Isles next week. Every care and precaution has been taken, the group divided into two groups of six, the guest house has re-organised really well and all looks good, but too many ferries and having to eat out each evening seemed just too, well, dangerous! We booked our trip in the camperbubble last week as we expected the birding tour to be cancelled, but all looked well with Covid levels declining when Naturetrek wanted the balance so we ended up with two holidays close together. I'm glad we went last week, we so nearly didn't! Hopefully they'll be able to fill our places and we may get some money back.

My cousin and her partner were together for 30 years and only got married because when she was taken seriously ill and in hospital, he was not allowed to have any say in her care or visit her in ICU as he was not her next of kin. Like you, they married to make things easier for them.

Oh, the purple poo bombs... I sympathise. One day last autumn we parked our car under one of the street trees outside our house. In the morning it was absolutely covered (and I do mean covered) in purple poo bombs. We drove straight to the car wash before work and the size and quantity of the poo bombs were such, that people were stopping in the street and staring at our car, as we passed.

It was our 6th wedding anniversary yesterday, we have been together 44 years in total, but got married 6 years ago, after I was ill.
I hadn’t ever really wanted to be married, as a feminist I didn’t see the need, but illness changed that, making it the sensible thing to do, from the legal/financial point of view.
At the Registry Office we were asked ‘Would you like any special music’, I explained no we wouldn’t be having any music. ‘Well you can take photographs in the main hall’, they told us. No, I explained, we won’t be taking any photographs. ‘We present the rings on a velvet cushion’ they said, so we had to explain there would be no rings.
I think they thought I was a bit difficult.
I would have preferred not to do it at all ... but can see that it made legal/financial sense.
Nevertheless we had a bottle of champagne yesterday and toasted our lives together...

Hello Gangsters, I've been quiet lately, there hasn't been much to say. I haven't been exercising, my gum is still sore and the dentist told me (although I don't usually need telling) to put my feet up for a few days.

Today I felt like doing a bit more. I had a hair appointment (in the town 10 miles away) but found I was worried about a stupid thing like where I was going to park and how I was going to pay. We have run out of cash in the house and I'm one of those pathetic/virtuous people who feel uncomfortable parking at a supermarket if I'm not planning to go in and buy anything (I'm not ready for supermarket shopping yet). I've relied on DH to take care of these things lately.

I realise now how much isolation has dented my self confidence. I really enjoyed the drive on my own and, for the first time, used the PayByPhone app to park in the public car park. I didn't even have to get out of the car to get a ticket from the machine (there was a queue), I just paid on my phone and walked away. Social distancing in the town was not easy but I didn't feel particularly threatened. I also paid my hairdresser using my phone. No need to use the PIN pad.

I didn't go into any shops though. Once home, I walked to the chemist in my local village to pick up my prescription. I went when the schools were turning out - that was a mistake, I was surrounded by hoards of children. I scurried home as fast as possible, washed my hands and changed my clothes (I would have changed into my 'rough' gear anyway).

Next week DH and I have eye tests too. I'm hoping there will be 'no change' to our eyesight.

I am also angry that you and your fellow residents are being treated so badly, Panache. You and your DH should be enjoying good quality food. I don't know what to say. Do you have a residents' committee that could work together?

BradfordLass, I am so envious of you having a swim. I can't remember when I last did that. With a damaged immune system, I think swimming pool changing rooms and atmosphere are just too much of a risk for me.

Grammaretto, I have some knitting to complete, a jumper, back and sleeves are complete and I'm halfway up the neck for the front. It is a cosy, winter sweater (for last winter). Must try harder.

NfkDumpling, it sounds as if you were in my neck of the woods with your camper van. I'm envious but we are back on the narrowboat again soon.

Vanishing posts are a real pain, aren't they? I type my posts in a notes app, then copy and paste them into GN. One of the reasons you lose posts is when switching between pages on the GN web page. I can go back and see what other posters have written and change things accordingly. Closing a notes app saves it automatically so you don't lose it easily.

Mamissimo, our new patio is covered with chicken poo (next doors' hens are still visiting despite the dog and cat trauma to one of them). What is worse, the hens are pecking the new (resin) pointing. That should produce interesting eggs!

Doodle, I don't think you should be encouraging Mamissimo to make porridge dumplings for her DGC to throw at ducks. It could end up with fatalities. (Does anyone remember the 'duck' scene in the 'About a Boy' movie?)

Today/we took both DGC to feed the ducks. Now I remember hurling bread at my feet in the rough direction of a duck as a child but they were supplied with oats. Now getting a toddler to throw a handful of oats with any accuracy was a challenge too far.....I was showing them how to do it....and looked down and my feet were liberally sprinkled. Mr M says I have failed basic child development level 1.

Whilst I understand the new 'rule of 6' it means that our family holiday in October looks like a no no. We've rented a huge house in north Devon for all 10 of us and all the family dogs. I'm hoping they will roll it over to next year for us but it's a big disappointment. I think I'll have to cancel the family get together for my 65th too....or have 2 events ?

I've just booked tickets to Wisley for next week - now that the schools are back more outings are available to crumblies like us.

In other infuriating news my DD received in the post today three forms for different medical agencies ordering tests prior to IVF.....all 3 should have been sent to the agencies so my SiL is going to drive round and deliver them all tomorrow. This further buggeration has been added to her Daily Journal in which she's recording everything that's happening. We have it on very good authority that this is essential in the case of the hospital group she has to use as they are holding a huge inquiry into the failings of their care.

Tomorrow we will have to scrub the path through the vegetable garden because the sparrows have been eating blackberries and everything is covered in purple bird poo bombs. It will make Mr M very happy because he loves --having something to moan about--using his pressure washer.

Sorry that I have been awol. It's been a tough week. I posted on the morning thread and should have at least popped by to say I am thinking of you all, as I am thinking of you all.
I will return very soon I hope but at the present I'm largely otherwise preoccupied. A close friend of my WP has died and my WP has been, still is, quite upset. I don't really feel much like chatting, although I have posted on one thread where a lady is concerned about her grandson who exhibited strange behaviour at school. Pleased to read some of your comings and goings.

I am seriously appalled dear Panache by the almost criminal and bullying behaviour of this company. At the least they should be named and shamed!

Too much goes on under the guise of "caring" and "service providing" which is way below acceptable standards.

Locally to us a man had turned his failing hotel into B&B accommodation for homeless. When it was inspected, it failed and he was forced to stop. He was being paid "easy money" to provide a service for these people and he wasn't. It was found to be sub-standard and dirty without any food provided or cooking facilities. Some hotel!,

My DM had meals on wheels for a while. It sounds so homely and attractive. In reality it was a fortnight's frozen dinners on a delivery lorry sent from some distant factory. The meals were as tasteless as you could imagine and indistinguishable from eachother. I believe many hospitals and schools have gone down the same route, sadly.

If only it was better understood how important nutrition is to health and happiness.

My in-laws have a nice set up at present. Their son, DH's brother, shops for them and there are 3 ladies who come in on different days who clean and cook for them. Money is provided by the Scottish Government for their care and they can spend it to pay the carers. It gives them a good degree of independence but without feeling alone.

DH had such a long sleep. He must be refreshed. We drove to pick up the lawnmower but when I got there I found it hadn't been ordered after all! I am definitely missing some screws.

I packed and switched on the kiln ready for the glazing tomorrow. Now I need to check that the glazes are mixed ready.

When will I get back to my lovely knitting! It's just a headband but the wool is from the isle of Uist.

I am very envious of those lilac specs you have Doodle.
However although I go on endlessly praising our county it has its downfalls too,one being the fact you hardly ever find exactly what you are looking for!!
So no lilac specs for me,in fact I ended up choosing gold frames ...again....but with large lens in an hexagonal shape.
They were my initial first choice,then after searching through a dozen others I ended up with them!
My computing glasses are just plain whilst my man has chosen gunmetal coloured frames.
Ready in 2 weeks.
For some unknown reason the song "We are a couple of swells" springs to mind!!!..............all be it hobbling on walking sticks!

Thank you so very much for your understanding of our dilemna regarding our very poor meals.
We have always in the past sent a little note offering special thanks for a really good meal,so on the same vein,have written both jointly and individually complaining bitterly about the very poor,non nutricious meals delivered this past month .
Of course with first one chef,then the second walking off there are no queues to fill these vacancies ........since the firm pays low wages whenever and wherever it can.
Their God is money.
We both need hot nutritional meals.....and decent portions.......sadly the cost is tied up by a water tight contract.
An 85 year old man whom has nursed both his son and wife for years,now recovering from cancer and a stroke himself,has been given to understand he will loose his flat if further complaints are made............this is the shocking calibre of this company.
Please enlighten me as to "Grey Power" Bradfordlass.....we really are at our wits end.
We have no "Meals on Wheels" service or like in our area.

Feeling for you and the sheer frustration this IVF situation is causing your DD and S in L........ and of course naturally yourself Mamissimo.........Does this Covid situation add to these delays,or simply used as excuses?
