If you're after ideas for what to read this summer, look no further than our round-up of the best summer reads for 2019.

One very lucky person can win all the books featured on the page - worth over £600.

To enter, simply tell us your favourite female character from a book (old or new and from any genre).

A winner will be drawn at random at midday on Monday 15 July. Usual terms and conditions apply. Note that because of the size and weight of the prize box, we are only able to deliver to mainland UK addresses.

My first thought was a childhood favourite - Jo March from Little Women but I'll choose Chris Guthrie from A Scots Quair as my grown up one.

I've just been introduced to the Earth's Children series by Jean Auel and Ayla is a wonderfully independent young woman!

Emma from Jane Austen. The author herself thought that nobody would liked her heroine as much as she did but how wrong she was! Privileged, spoilt, opinionated and interfering but how endearing her journey to self-awareness!

Emma in the book by Jane Austen.
She's so cheeky and naughty, a bit inconsiderate at times, but has a huge heart. Just like my daughter who is named after the character.
