Decorations.

I began today. Should finish on Tuesday I think, I do a little each day. The tree is last to go. We’ll leave some lights in the conservatory - winter lights and a couple of ornaments that are for winter not necessarily Christmas. They’ve been installed since early December and I’ll be sorry to see them go. .

What happened to the twelve days of Christmas?
I just don’t understand anyone taking their decs and cards down before the 6th.
People put them up too early, that’s why.

Probably because Christmas starts being shoved at us all from the end of August, or thereabouts. There’s a Christmas surfeit by the beginning of December.

Am sure I am not alone in remembering the tree going up just before Christmas, and the postman delivering Christmas cards and parcels on Christmas Eve or just before, and not because they had been on strike for the weeks leading up to it.

Already crème eggs in Tesco.

Since I have the family with us until 2nd January, nothing will come down before then. I will then take them down at a room a day. Giving the relevant room a good post Christmas clean at the same time.

I can never see the point of pre-Christmas extra cleaning, because the moment the family arrives the house is in total chaos and as they usually stay a week, by the time they go - that is when the house needs a good clean.

Mine were up from 1st to 31st december. I always like to get them up and again to take them down, ready for that snuggle into january winter. All dusted and cleaned, knitting out for this next calm and quiet month of lit stove and candles

I took mine down yesterday. This is the first time I have taken them down before twelfth night.

I am back in work today and as yesterday was a bank holiday, it seemed a good opportunity to take them down. I wasn't busy!

I don't mind putting them up and down. It's getting in them in and out of the loft that I hate. It's such a faff and they take up so much room.

I have more decorations than I know what to do with but I always end up buying a few more every year

Ours will stay until the 6th. It's a public holiday here today anyway, so not back to anything like normal yet. We don't put anything up until the middle of December at the earliest, so not tired of them yet.

As I don't put up cards or anything Christmasy until the 22nd /23rd December I'm happy to leave things until 12th Night.

What has happened to tradition? The twelve days of Christmas used to be the period of celebration and until recent times decorations were put up not before Christmas Eve and taken down on twelfth night. I sort of stick to this as I do not bring in the Christmas tree early as I like the smell and fresh leaves at Christmas not on 1 December and not be sweeping up dead needles on Christmas Day. But each to his/her own. It is commercialism no doubt that has changed things. Also lots of my cards only arrived a couple of days ago, a shame to bin them so soon!

Ours are all boxed up now. A few days early I know. Last year I cleared out the cupboard under the stairs and stored them there. So much easier than messing around with the loft ladder. I have cheated again with the small tree. It still has all its decorations but is covered with an old cot sheet for storage.

The plain led lights are all still out in vases. They brighten the place up a bit on dark evenings. I'm off to the garden centre tomorrow ad hopefully they will have some mini daffs in pots.

Wreaths recycled. Happy birds.

As a lover of all things Christmas I was so excited when a saw the title. What a letdown!

Interestingly Ukraine who have always kept the Orthodox Christmas on 6 th January are moving their Christmas to 25 th Dec to distance themselves from all things Russian.
