Don't have a problem if that's what people want to do.
Pictures on the telly showing cupboards filled top to bottom, that's fine.
But if your home gets flooded out,all those items on the bottom will be useless.

I think if we have any spare cash or tins we should give them to our local food bank for those that can't afford any extras.

Best of luck with that idea (which is a good one)

But how do you define "spare"?
Some people shop more often than others - does that mean that those who buy more, but less frequently, should 'subsidise' those who shop on a 'just in time' way?

Why is is 3 days and not 4 or 7 or 10?

Just pick a number, any number you like because it’s pointless.😂

I suppose it’s personal to me because I’ve sewn thousands of books by hand and machine.

Aldi was down to their last pack of water today !

Maybe it's payday for a lot of people, so they'll be using this shop to fill their emergency boxes?

winterwhite Wed 28-Oct-26 20:04:11

How will we know whether it’s a Real Emergency or not. Suppose we all compromise our supplies by opening our water and broaching our tinned ham only to find the power on again after a few hours 🥺

Doodledog Wed 28-Oct-26 20:21:21

That's always the case in a power cut, isn't it? It's like deciding when to leave the bus stop and walk, or take the stairs instead of waiting for the lift. You win some, you lose some.

There will be more tinned ham when the shops reopen😀

Most people don't live in flood areas, nobody has suggested storing food on the bottom shelves (pictures are just that, pictures, not suggestions), if you do live in a flood area don't store food that can be damaged by water low down, tins won't be damaged by water (a bit of rust on the outside of a tin never harmed anyone that I'm aware of) and it's easy to store food in an airtight (and waterproof) box.

All I see is people picking holes in perfectly good advice,
I don't have room to store food... Then make room. Put it in a box inthe attic, under a bed, clear out some junk in a cupboard, put it behind the sofa.
I can't afford it... Yes you can. Nobody is so poor that they can't afford an extra tin of something everytime they do the shopping.
Nobody told me what I should stock up on... Use common sense, it's not rocket science.

It's really not a, difficult thing to do, I've always had a bit of extra food because my mum always did and drilled it into me that there will always be a time that you need it, she got that attitude from my grandma who lived through the war. If my grandma could feed a family of 7 during the war then there's no excuse for saying we can't do it now.
