Good morning from Durham where it’s bright but chilly. Yesterday, DD2 got through to her surgery and was told to send in pictures. She did so and within minutes, received a call telling her to go there immediately. On inspection, she was then dispatched to Newcastle’s RVI where she spent the rest of the day linked to IV antibiotics. Fortunately she was discharged last night with more meds and instructions to keep an eye on it. (as if she doesn’t). Perhaps if she rings again, her disability is red flagged. Of course, I didn’t know if I’d be needed for DGS2, so I spent the afternoon at home with my phone to hand, ready, willing and able.
Today really is an empty, although the gardeners are due late morning. I’d spent a couple of hours yesterday raking up leaves, picking up windfalls and putting spare tools and items into the shed for winter. I feel I need to do ‘something’.

Best wishes to all. X

Good morning from Shropshire.Dry at the moment.

We had a lovely few hours with DGD yesterday and met a lovely lady while we were waiting for her to finish dance class. Her daughter will be going to the same high school as DGD next September. We dropped DGD home and as we were reversing out of their drive, a gust of wind caught one of their huge wooden gates and wedged it firmly against our car.DH and SIL managed to lift it off while DD slowly drove the car forward. As they live in the middle of nowhere so no street lights DGD and I were in charge of torches.DGS and the dog were unaware of the drama.Amazingly no damage to the car but what a flipping drama and that was before the storm arrives 🤦🏼‍♀️

Today our stretch and balance class and food shopping.

I hope your appointment goes well today Mick and also that you get better news from your son madeleine 🙏🏻

Glad the rat situation is sorted Marzipan but how awful for you.

Wishing everyone a good day 🌻🦩

Good morning Mick and everyone from dry, clear-skied Carlisle. I'm wondering how much wind we'll get here, certainly we're on the edge of a yellow warning for rain, which we don't need.
Yesterday morning was spent at the car dealer's whilst my motor was having a service and MOT, all turned out well. I read my Kindle during the wait and paid a visit to the giant Tesco store a few minutes away. I get deliveries from them but only visit when the car is at the garage. It's amazing what they have that I don't think to look for when I do my online order. Probably just as well as my outgoings would likely rocket!
Back to do not much. I did go out in the garden as it would have been a shame to waste a pleasant sunny day. I moved 2 plants and had another go at sawing down a small tree, it's going bit by bit...it's hard work.

Today I spent at home, first get the ironing out of the way then settle down to very tedious admin. Really, I'd rather clean a row of toilets! I loathe bureaucracy.

Later, I should finish my book and probably start another, fiction this time I think.

Wishing you all a good day!

Good morning from a damp Suffolk after a day of drizzle yesterday.

I haven’t yet read any posts but I hope all is well with all. I’m off to my stretch class in just over an hour and that is the only fixed point in my day. DH will be helping a neighbour get to grips with his new tv which is proving more difficult than he thought as he can’t remember the password for his WiFi.

He lives up the lane with no adjoining neighbours and with family in London and France. We find walking the line between being neighbourly and interfering a difficult one to tread sometimes.

A second cuppa beckons which I shall enjoy when reading about your doings.

Good morning from dark and wet Kerry, feels chilly too though 7° ,I pick up the stray cat today from the vet, I have purchased a 3ft crate to keep him in , its touch and go really, his leg is fractured the vet said but has other health issues, was abused and has had injuries in the past now healed, also FIV positive, I have to bring him to the vet every 10 days for a check up, dosnt sound good does it?
But the rescue involved never put an animal down if there's a chance for them, so I'm officially fostering him but already have decided to adopt him if he lives,
Yesterday my grandson helped me take cardboard to the tip and we also took a bag of household rubbish as I missed putting the bins out for collection,,,
Today I hope to go into Killarney to have coffee with a friend as my daughter is here to sit with my dh, the bad weather starts here this afternoon so I'll be in for the rest of today and tomorrow,
I too got caught up in the Range with Christmas decorations on one side and halloween one the other, succumbed to a witch with red glowing eyes that light up on movement, its draped in a long black cloak and the skeleton hands moved up and down while a voice says I want to play with you come here ,,,,hung it in my sons walk in wardrobe on the back of the door,so as he opened it and stretched inside to turn on the light it started up,,,,,he lost his soul then caught his sister out after sending her to get a jacket for him,
Oh the joys of motherhood... son is living with us at the moment having broken up with partner ,though with work and out with friends we rarely see him,he eats out mostly, we won't see him at all while the weather is bad as he will be on storm damage and staying in hotels round the country where he's needed.
I do worry thinking of him up poles fixing cables etc but its his job ,
The carer hasn't arrived yet so I will take this time to sit in the conservatory and gather my thoughts for the day, 11 am picking up cat, but first dropping in for a coffee with a friend ,Killarney is quiet at the moment, few tourists, so not stuck behind coaches parking and blocking the road, there is a coach carpark at apparently many tourists don't want to walk to the hotels so our windy town roads get jammed up, not much can be done as it would take away the charm of the town to knock buildings to make roads wider,
Anyway have a lovely day,I will pop a picture of our rescue tomorrow if possible, grandson is already named it Felix

Good morning everyone from mid Essex. It’s dry and bright, I think a dry day is forecast so the washing may dry outside.
I got wet yesterday walking to the church hall for the coffee morning, but it was good to chat with friends. I’d walked there using two walking sticks rather than my rollator. I lean on the rollator so walking with sticks is better for me as I’m more upright.
After lunch I swept and washed the kitchen and bathroom floors, and swept the dining room floor. Then carried on moving things around ready for whenever the decorators arrive to paint my bedroom and the hall, stairs and landing.

marzipan what an awful experience for you, I hope you can get your apartment deep cleaned soon so you can relax indoors again. A week away is an excellent idea.

latedecember enjoy your long weekend away, I’m sure you’ll find a suitable Halloween outfit for the little chap, there are lots around and little children look very cute dressed up.

fgt a good idea to prepare for power cuts etc. I must get some small bottles of water as I can’t open the large bottles.

Have the best day possible everyone, I must get myself moving before I seize up!

GrannyGravy13 Thu 22-Oct-26 07:41:40

Good morning, it’s damp here with rain forecast.

Waiting for the teens to come down for breakfast, then I shall drive them to college (they haven’t realised that the post along the road with Bus Stop on it is actually a bus stop 😹)

Back home for a coffee and then it’s off to the Farm Shop and then to Smyth’s Toy Shop with DD. The Imp has circled half of their catalogue and she wants to get ahead.

Gingster I am a sucker for a Xmas stocking for the GC, must try and wean myself out of it…

brook2704 Thu 22-Oct-26 07:36:38

Good morning everyone from Inverness where it’s still dark but dry just now, rain forecast for later
Hoping all goes well today Mick
Thank you so much Jax, after a few busy days I’m looking forward to a lazy day today, nothing planned but lots to keep me busy. At the moment I’m enjoying Tib and then I’ll just see how the day goes. DH is out this morning at his regular Thursday morning Men’s Shed visit which he really enjoys.
Oh goodness Gingster what trouble you’re having with the bank, pleased you enjoyed a coffee afterwards though and a chat with your pal
Hoping everyone has the best day they can, take care all 💐

Gagagran Thu 22-Oct-26 07:32:34

Good Morning everyone from a damp central south coast after a wet night. The forecast is for dry with sunny periods and a breeze so it should dry things up before the storm scheduled for tomorrow.

Yesterday, I had a lovely surprise invitation from my former choir. It is to their Christmas social event at the local yacht club. in the week following their December concert (which I am planning to attend also). I was a member of the choir for 14 years and very sadly had to retire following my horrible fall into our rose bed, in June this year, leaving me with some health issues. I do miss the weekly rehearsals and seeing old friends, so look forward to attending that.

DH and his friend are heading out for a cycle ride this morning and will probably have both a coffee stop and later lunch and a pint before returning home. I am planning to change my wardrobes around so the winter things are more accessible and also hope to do a cull of non-worn stuff. I am a victim of my Mum's drummed in motto "It might come in". Well I have a lot that never has done so it is going out!

Like you GM I had a surprise call from DS yesterday. He was on his way for a sports massage and today sees his physio. She is very pleased with his progress (Achilles tendon healing) and it has lifted his spirits to be mobile again - not as much as he wishes for but he knows he must not be impatient and undo all the good work so far. It is always a joy to hear him and puts a smile on my face!

Hope all the hatches are battened down ready for the arrival of storm Austen tomorrow. Take care everyone, especially anyone on the move and hope there is better news for all with health issues or worries of any kind.

Glad ratty has been dealt with Marzipan and you manage to get your flat deep cleaned.

Gingster Thu 22-Oct-26 07:31:58

Good morning all . Very dark today but no rain forecast for Essex.

Yesterday I spent yet another hour in the bank. After queuing for at least 15 minutes and getting the cashier to scan my passport, going through all my transactions, I was told ‘your accounts are blocked! 😤. Please no!
This had happened in Monday due to NS&I being over cautious.

I then had to sit with another manager who had to phone again to security, held on for 15 minutes and eventually got it sorted.

Came out feeling quite mind-blown with all the questions, and had a much needed coffee with my friend.

I bought 3 potted rose plants (£1 each ) from the market . I have them on my kitchen windowsill at the moment and will pop them in the garden at a later date. They’re so pretty.

Whilst in one shop there was a torrential downpour which flooded the market area and pavements in seconds.
My friend drove me home with my loaded trolley, bless her.

Dh had the chiropidist which was quite painful for him but has eased his sore toe due to ingrown nail.

Today DIL will pick me up for shopping. I’ll start looking at little gifts for Christmas, they had some lovely things last week in Sainsburys. I’ll give the GC money but always like to give a surprise wrapped present, to open.

I stopped doing stockings last year. With 8 GC and 10 little gifts in each , wrapping them all became too much. They did love it though! Altogether , ripping paper , lots of laughter and noise. My 24 yr old said ‘Nanna, that was the best thing about Christmas’. 😅❤️. Oh well!

I hope all your days go well .

Jaxjacky Thu 22-Oct-26 07:24:22

Enjoy your free day brook* 🙂

Jaxjacky Thu 22-Oct-26 07:19:17

Morning from a dry S Hants, due to be a pleasant day before Austen comes in tonight.
A friend came for coffee yesterday then I had my ears de waxed, MrJ played bowls in the afternoon. My car needs collecting today from its oil change.
How unsettling Marzipan a closed chapter now 🤞
Have a decent day all. 🦩

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Thu 22-Oct-26 07:17:23

Good morning everyone from south Manchester where its dry, not too cold at 7°C but will rain later with 11°C our high.

I woke an hour ago my mind whirring, thinking of needing to take sensible precautions in case of a cyber attack. A conversation I’d heard in a podcast struck a chord last night:

You have plasters in your house don’t you?
Yes.
Are you bleeding right now?
No.
Well that’s what cautious preparation is all about. Just upscale…

So - yes a battery light, cash, a radio run by batteries, tins of food & bottled water enough for say a week. I’ve got but then I suddenly started worrying about my stepfather. How prepped is he? Not much I think and then I worried as he hasn’t the grip to open bottled water (I don’t think - must check today I’ll take a small bottle and see how he copes - then a lightbulb moment - I can get him some juice boxes with a straw!)

I’m not panicking but he is 94, lives alone with not great eyesight at present. I’m going over to see him today anyway and we need to have a chat about this. Up until now I realised I’d only been thinking about my own needs. 😮

latedecember1963 Thu 22-Oct-26 07:04:48

Good morning everyone from Lancashire.

Yesterday we went to Toddler Group in the morning and then dropped a birthday present and card at the library for my friend who volunteers there ready for her birthday next week.

Today we need to pick up some bits and pieces for going to the caravan for a long weekend tomorrow. DH has booked some annual leave which is long overdue. We haven't been for almost 2 months with one thing or another so I'm looking forward to my Anglesey fix.

The boys will love the skeleton, Grandmabatty. I'm going to see if I can find a Hallow'een outfit for the little chap to wear when the local trick or treaters come to call.

Lovely colour of the jacket, Karma. That would have suited my lovely MiL.

I hope you can keep in touch with your friend, GrandMattie. What would we do without WhatsApp?

Oh my goodness, Marzipan22! We occasionally get a mouse in from the woodland at the back of us but a rat is on a whole other level! Shudder, shudder.
Marydoll, did you ever find your suspected mouse from earlier this summer?

That's such a good idea to book in at a nearby hotel for your Christmas visit, Ashcombe. It gives everyone space to have a breather from each other, especially if the weather isn't great for getting out and about.

I can hear the little chap stirring so will love you and leave you.
Hope all goes well with your MRI today, Mick.

Wishing everyone the best day possible. 🌻

Good morning from dark South Lanarkshire. I haven’t looked out yet but it feels quite chilly.

I enjoyed my shift in the wool shop yesterday, lots of chat with customers and my co-volunteer who also was a volunteer in the charity shop. We get on well together.

This our day to do the school and nursery pick ups, it’s always a rush afterwards to get the children fed as they all have activities to attend.

All the best today Mick.

Have a good day everyone.

Greyduster Thu 22-Oct-26 06:46:52

Good morning Michael and all GNs from South Yorkshire where it is still dark and the forecast is not promising. I’m keeping my powder dry as to whether I go walking this morning. All forecasts contradict each other as usual. I hope your day goes well, Mick.

Yesterday morning I walked down to the pharmacy and had my covid jab. My arm is sore this morning, but at the moment nothing more than that.

Our writers group meeting in the afternoon was attended by a new chap who had come to put his toe in the water. He was writing his family history and seemed to have got bogged down not with the material but about how to put it all together. As this was our once a month “themed” session led by the librarian (who works very hard to put these sessions together), and it was in danger of being “hijacked”, we have suggested he comes to our next weekly meeting so that we can give the session over to talk about it. One of our members is a bit of an expert on genealogy and family histories so she will be able to help him a lot.

Have the best day you can, folks.

grandMattie Thu 22-Oct-26 06:39:21

r&l, during covid, I tried to send a parcel to the DGDs aged 10 & 8 every week. It could be a subscription to a baking club, clothes that I had made or tat, but I think they enjoyed them. It was such a hard time for everyone.
Everyone loves a parcel.

Any help, madeleine?
Other suppliers are available.

Eek! Scary times, Marzipan22. I’m glad you had someone there to help!

And scary times with you, Grandmabatty, in a different way! 🐈‍⬛🕷️🕸️👀☠️

Grandmabatty Thu 22-Oct-26 06:19:30

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 9° and damp. Heavy rain last night. Mick good luck with the scan. Ashcombe happy shopping!
Yesterday I went to the retail park to buy a mop and came back with a skeleton. The Range had a number of Halloween decorations and I succumbed. I'm sure the boys will like it. I cleaned all the windows and glass yesterday too and hoovered throughout.
I have had the most awful night's sleep and feel like a wet rag. Unfortunately I'm looking after the boys this morning instead of going back to bed. Then handing them over to their aunt at lunchtime and then I will go to art class. Tonight will be a very early bed for me. Have a good day all.

RosesandLilac Thu 22-Oct-26 06:17:56

Good morning from soggy south Glos, it’s drizzling here, I can see it in the streetlight just along the road.
Good luck for the MRI Mick 🤞🏻
The DGCs enjoyed the parcel I sent, DDIL sent photos with her message last evening. I do enjoy finding bits and pieces to send them; I’m always very careful not to send just tat so this parcel had two books (one full of interesting humorous facts and one on making a nature journal) plus good quality chocolate (that always helps if you’re poorly boy!)
I really need to do housework today, I’m hoping that the forecast for a dry day is true and I can get the washing hung outside.
I’ll finish sock 1 today and hopefully start the second; I can read or watch a film or listen to an audiobook or podcast as I knit, multitasking me!
Chicken and chips for dinner, I quite fancy making an egg custard to have with rhubarb too…..😋
Hope you all have a good day 🌹

Marzipan22 Thu 22-Oct-26 06:13:20

Good morning from a dry, calm Cornwall. Yesterday my landlord sent a man to fill holes where the rat may have entered and he arrived just as the creature appeared and died in my kitchen. Great. 😲 He did an efficient job of clearing it away and then I took it, triple bagged, to a council bin while he filled holes. On the way back I called in to the café next door and bought us strong takeaway coffees as we were both struggling with the situation. I put on a Toy Story DVD to distract me and we had a long conversation about the film series as it turned out he was a fan of animation too.

Meanwhile my best pal invited me to hers for the afternoon and evening which was lovely, just what I needed. Today I must find a company to deep clean my flat as soon as possible so that I can relax and enjoy the place again. After that I think I'll go away for a week for a change of scenery.

Today also I'm meeting two of my closest friends for coffee and I'll pop to the gallery in town and see how my other friend's exhibition is going.

karmalady Thu 22-Oct-26 06:11:09

Good morning from s somerset, today might give us some brightness for a few hours, then back to normal for October

There was a lot of calm peaceful hand sewing to do yesterday and I have finished my next quilted jacket, this one is thin and probably equivalent to a cardigan in warmth. I enjoyed making it. I was knitting too. lovely merino yarn and have almost finished my jumper

My new tablet came yesterday, it didn`t take me long to get up and running. I like it so far and am on Borrowbox now and I want to find a plug for charging, I don`t want to plug it into my laptop for that

Doings for today? Pottering, all looks well in garden and allotment, I will probably add a walk while the sun is out and then continue to cut a basic sweater from leftover scraps

Best wishes Mick, hoping that all goes well today

madeleine45 Thu 22-Oct-26 06:09:52

Good morning Michael and all GN's from a very dark and chilly North Yorkshire. I have a busy day today, firstly catching up from yesterday and sorting out things that should have been finished yesterday.

I felt that, as they say, I running to stand still . yesterday. Whatever I was trying to do there were obstacles, things that I was not in charge of, and general hassle and stress. One of the first major upsets was that I rang my son just to check a couple of things about our planned meeting up and to check about something I hoped to get for my grandsons christmas present, as I hoped to be able to get that and pass it over to them to take back home, so that it would be there ready and no worry about the wretched post. So was in quite a reasonable mood and just thinking of such things, and then was rather panicked to hear that he was waiting to hear from the hospital. He has had ear problems, but this time has had two lots of antibiotics ,which hadnt done much good and was in pain etc and they were sending him to see someone at the hospital asap, that they then said that he had cellulitis in his ear, and that they were concerned for a time that he had sepsis! So that was rather an unexpected worry and later he rang to say that he has an appointment for today. On the one hand , very good that he is being seen quickly, but on the other hand to be seen so quickly does rather concern me.

Well that rather added to a bad start to the day, and the time was flying by and I had an appointment that was important, so that I ended up having to dash off to that , leaving the absolute mess behind. I managed to put some washing on, but no washing up done or kitchen tidied and I dont like to come home to a mess, as I usually feel quite shattered and in some pain, so need to sit down to recuperate. So I did manage to do what I needed to do practically, but kept thinking about him and hoping he would be ok etc.

Went to the library where they had the trading standards stall, which was useful, as I was able to check that I understood correctly what areas they covered and collect a few leaflets , to pass on to the womens group today, which is one of the reasons I go to these things. Not just for my own information, but to make sure that anyone who didnt manage to get there , had the up to date information, and contact numbers etc. That was quite calming as I had to concentrate on that , and stop thinking about my son so much. I was pleased I had gone, as I met the person from that department, who I had contacted regarding the hotel saga and the disabled entrance. I always think it is good to meet in person, so that in the future you have that connection, and I definitely will be keeping up with them. I am not satisfied with the hotels efforts so far and wanted to check on what was a reasonable time to allow for them to deal with the situation, and come back to me.So that was good to liaise with him and I want to be reasonable with the hotel but not let them think I will let them do nothing. A worthwhile meeting, and also gained some knowledge of who to speak to about things that where not precisely trading standards area, but needed addressing. More power to my armour for the future! The time was going by and I then went all over trying to get this plane model but no success. He doesnt want a toy to make up, but a to scale model sort of thing. So this seemed to fall between the cracks and no one had anything that I was looking for, so that was rather a waste of time and today I must look for other places to try. I may look to see if the nearest airport has such things for sale, or if there is no joy , may have to hunt online for what is right or get my son to find something, when he is better.

By the time I got home with the things that mattered, the washing was finished but it then was a shower of rain, and I had to catch up with some of the mess and in the end had to leave the washing inside and get ready to go to whist. It was already very dark and miserable as I drove there and so many cars where their lights were nowhere near pointing down but glaring straight at you, and stupid people wearing dark clothes and no yellow hi viz or torches to show them up. Even a really daft man on a bike with no lights at all! Partly I always say this is the most dangerous time, when people havent moved into winter mode, and thought about being clearly seen especially when the children leave school in dark uniforms and in badly lit areas are difficult to be seen. Well there were a good crowd at the whist and although I didnt win anything, and had a few awkward hands, it was actually very good for me , as I had to concentrate and think what had gone etc, so was quite calming. By the time I got home my back was very painful and I felt too weary to do anything but go to bed.

So now just trying to loosen up and feel less creaky . Then it will be more washing in, yesterdays washing put on the line if the weather looks worth the bother, and general sorting . I am going to the womens group, and need to make sure I have the leaflets and info, to pass on to others. Havent a clue what the speaker is today, so hope it is something interesting. Then home and fingers crossed that the cleaners come this afternoon. I had some beef out of the freezer to make a casserole yesterday, but that never got done ,so I shall get that made and think that casserole and a jacket potato sound a good warming meal for tonight, and there will be enough to either freeze it for another day, or may be happy to have the same tomorrow, as the weather prospects do not sound good for either tomorrow or the weekend. So I shall be glad if I can get my washing dry today. Then the ironing will have mounted up again. What I do at the weekend will be mostly governed by what news I have from my son, so not planning anything specific, in case I need to go over to see them or make some plans for early next week. So actually if I get to the end of today with things clean and tidy I shall be grateful for small mercies.

I hope you get back in good time to enjoy the cycling Mick and will be thinking of you going for your MRI. I hope there is no delay on that and you can get clear results which will point the way ahead for you. There are many times when I think how much more I would have enjoyed living in an earlier time, but in things like medical procedures we are so lucky to have all the wonderful things that help us to stay as well as we can. You could just imagine if someone was able to timetravel to today from the middle ages, how they would think it was all witchcraft, and the wonders of painkillers and antibiotics etc, that we naturally just take for granted these days were not available to them. However like Pandoras box , sometimes ignorance can be bliss! So good luck and award yourself some treat tonight, and hope the cycling is good for you.

Well lovely music on the radio, but having peeped outside, curtains swiftly shut against the cold and dark. As that old yorkshire expression goes I need to "get sided away" and hope to greet the dawn with chance to give the washing a good blow on the line, whilst I find the variety of clothes needed for today. Going on the yellow peril needs warm jacket and gloves etc, but with a thin top underneath it all as the meeting room can be quite warm. Of course gloves and sunglasses at the ready too. I hope all gn's are ready to face their day , with plans working out and maybe a chance meeting with a friend to brighten their day. Take care and hope that you all keep safe and well. Will be back later to catch up on news and views.

Ashcombe Thu 22-Oct-26 05:50:11

Good morning from a dark but dry corner of La Sarthe, judging by the state of Pussycat Perry, who is a dry boy after being out all night.

Today we hope to go to Lidl and stock up with wine and fizz for Christmas (and some food for us now!) which we shall be spending with my DD2 and her family in Crewe. I’ve already booked for us to stay at a nearby Travelodge which works well for us all and wasn’t expensive considering the time of year.

I hope your scan goes well, Mick and you soon know the results.

Wishing you all the best of days. 🦩🥰🐈💐🦩

GillyMo Thu 22-Oct-26 05:46:16

Good morning all from Herefordshire where it is 8 degrees.

That's a lot of travelling for you today, Mick.

Well, yesterday's book club was a bit different. There was a new person who tended to dominate the discussion. It seemed to ruffle a few feathers. Funny how the dynamics of a group can change so quickly.

I have yoga class today which will help to clear the negativity of yesterday.

Happy Thursday all.
