starting Thursday night if you live in West Wales and across the Southern region of England.
Don't like to appear by being part of the Nanny State.
So I am going to suggest a couple of things, yours are welcome.
Make sure your phone is fully charge and if you do have a wireless with rechargeable battery's put it on charge.
Fill your car up with fuel
Get some cash out of the cash machines
and get a couple of extra days shopping.
To the extreme if you have car and live in a low lying location try and get up on a bit higher ground never like see cars during floods being under one foot of water and and written off
Just keep safe.

Posted today by my local Mountain Rescue Team. It made me smile.

They were called gales when I was young.

When I was younger this weather was called “a bit windy “. Everything seems to be a huge crisis now.

Agree, why do you think that is?

we're getting it today, very strong winds and heavy rain
we have a cat,,,who is not ours, just a lodger, he's been in all day ,refuses to leave

Cumbrianmale56 Sat 24-Oct-26 17:27:52

It's getting wild up here in Cumberland. The wind is really picking up speed and it's supposed to last until tomorrow afternoon.

CarrotTop Sat 24-Oct-26 16:15:14

Typo: I meant 180+ feet.

CarrotTop Sat 24-Oct-26 16:14:09

Rain all day, very cold and the nearby sycamores (100+ feet) swaying and shivering fit to bust (2 have fallen in high winds over the past 8 years - fortunately for us, away from our house, but not so fortunate for other people who suffered real damage).
We are always prepared. Winter, Spring, Summer and Autumn all bring their own little (and big) surprises. Surely only fools would imagine they're totally immune to Nature?

JenniRen Sat 24-Oct-26 16:03:04

Rainy and windy here today and we are supposed to be going out tonight.

JamesandJon33 Sat 24-Oct-26 15:35:58

What a miserable day It has rained steadily from six this morning, and we have had the lights on all day.A little breezy but not stormy. Tomorrow is supposed to be quiet.

M0nica Sat 24-Oct-26 15:19:34

It's been a bit rainy and windy in the central east England, but nothing exceptional.

Storms always leave me anxious.

They leave me a bit anxious these days too.

We got flooded in one downpour about 15 years ago. Totally unexpected as we are not near a watercourse. All due to baked ground and heavy rainfall in a short period.

A few years ago we woke up to find next door's tree leaning against our roof. It was mainly supported by another tree but it was a shock - if the other tree hadn't stayed standing I dread to think of the damage that would have been done to that corner of the house.

Marydoll Sat 24-Oct-26 13:22:02

I am ill in bed and watching our tall trees swaying rather strongly in the wind, which is picking strength.

Storms always leave me anxious.

At the moment, the breeze is picking up and the dark clouds are scuttling across the sky. I suspect it will worsen before it improves and we are warned that tomorrow will bring stronger gusts of wind, however, so far, not too bad at all.

I know it’s the time of year for these storms, but nevertheless, it is wise to be as prepared as you can be, just in case things worsen where you live.

glammagran Sat 24-Oct-26 12:29:24

In Wiltshire we had plenty of rain yesterday but while windy in the afternoon , it wasn’t in any way exceptional here.

Glad most of you came through it. With more rain today, a couple of quick things: if the power went off yesterday, check the freezer and anything that thawed and refroze. If in doubt, throw it out. And if you're on your own, worth joining your electricity network's Priority Services Register (free, ring 105), so they check on you in a long cut.

Cumbrianmale56 Sat 24-Oct-26 12:24:53

Storm Beolo seems to have made landfall where I live. The heavy rain started at 10am and the winds are really whipping up. Just as well I got some shopping and a haircut before the storm.
Hope everyone is OK as I hate this sort of weather and what it can do.

nanna8 Sat 24-Oct-26 10:38:32

Hope they get their power back soon. We once had to go over a week without it but it doesn’t get so cold here. We also have a wood fire so that helped. Had to go to daughter’s house for a hot shower. I now keep a lot of candles just in case because I hate the darkness at night. All this was because some big gum trees blew across the powerlines - they take ages to fix things here. We get bushfires most years and those involved can lose power for weeks and weeks on end. Negatives of living in ‘God’s own’

Is that the pier used in Oh What a Lovely War?

The Met Office got it right then, I’ve just seen that 18000 homes are now without power, and part of Brighton Pier has collapsed into the sea. It’s not a case of I’m alright Jack for them, it’s grim being without power for long.

There wasn’t a lot left of the pier before the storm hit.

I realised afterwards that it was West Pier.
However, I do remember it from the 1950s when it was intact and very busy.

Casdon Fri 23-Oct-26 21:42:05

The sea was very rough along the South coast today though, waves of 6-8 feet apparently. It’s always sad when landmarks go.

Agree, Casdon, it's miserable for those affected, especially older people on their own. If anyone reading is in the dark tonight: 105 gives updates on when it'll be back, the Priority Services Register is free and gets you checked on in future cuts, and a hot water bottle and a flask go a long way. Worth a phone call to anyone you know who lives alone in the south-west.

Scribbles Fri 23-Oct-26 19:59:12

I received this earlier from Passenger Assistance who seem to have information the Met office haven't passed on to the rest of us.
26 November? That's some storm! I knew I should have got in more Sauv Blanc!

Been to V and A with friend today, transport only slightly affected in SW London, had a lovely day. We have wind and rain but nothing really concerning.
