Good morning all from a sunny Black country after overnight rain.
Yesterday we took ourselves off to Stratford as we decided to have a change of scenery, buses and trains all synced in with one another, a lovely day was had with a delightful meal so no cooking again.
We met with our friend later at the club as arranged.
Today nothing planned as yet but as the sun is shining we may take a trip out again.
grandMattie it sounds like you had a good day yesterday, enjoy the rest of your break.
Have the best day you can everyone whatever your plans.

Good morning from sunny and dry s somerset

I will be dealing with the remainder of my parsnips today, only from a 1sq m bed at home but it looks as though there will be enough for the whole of winter. I did half yesterday, cut, blanched etc and open froze. I need to dig the others out today to make space for more strawberry plants

My afternoon yesterday was very disrupted after I opened an unexpected letter from HMRC telling me to self-assess for tax for 25/26. Only a few months ago I had received a letter telling me I did not need to self-assess. It was horrible trying to get the information together but I was finished by 7 and was still churned up by 9 so did some sewing upstairs

I have started my housecoat, a proper housecoat made from cotton double gauze, really it is a long jacket. I slept long and well after that, naturally woke up twice but went back to sleep quickly

Today I am going to make another veg soup/casserole and I think that will be the last of my frozen squash chunks and caramelised onion, beans etc. I need the freezer space

I wish it would rain, we are facing a winter drought here in the sw

Good morning from a very mild Suffolk after a glorious day yesterday. We noticed on the way home that the road down to the coastguard cottages was closed with a sign saying ‘Emergency Work’. It is the beginning of the area which had the terrible fires on the Heath several weeks ago.

DS phoned in the evening….his weekly check up,he always says, that we are ok. He said that, although there is no active above ground fire, the temperature underground at certain parts is 60 degrees and work is underway to cool that area down.

He reminded us that, when he was much younger,he lit a fire near where we park the cars and put it out fusing pond water…or so he thought. Our neighbour notice flames in the garden,Brough his hose pipe, put it out but left the hose on the ground for several hours as he thought that the fire had reached the roots of a tree nearby.

No permanent damage done but clearly a lasting memory for him and us.

Today we have no plans apart from the usual dog walk although I will pop up to see a neighbour who brought 4 delicious figs yesterday having said Wednesday’s offering was probably the last of the season. He had left them on the front doorstep when we were out.

Hope all have an easy, pleasant day and can enjoy this autumnal warmth.

Good morning from a sunny NE after overnight rain.
Forecast is for 13°.
Lovely day with DD and SIL yesterday, shopping and then lunch. They helped me with some computer issues and then DD and I cooked dinner. We had vegan roast chicken with stuffing washed down with alcohol free rose wine.

This morning the piano tuner is coming, there is never a problem despite the piano being 51 years old.

Have a good day.

Good morning from sunny Leicestershire although it has rained.

Today a quick visit to Sainsbury’s which will involve coffee.

Wishing everyone the best day possible.

Good morning from Sunnyside Sandhills northwest coast. A fruitful day yesterday, although if I detailed it, it would not sound very impressive. Lots of catching up, bits and pieces and phone calls.
I haven’t received my bubble pack containing my new statins, which have stopped the terrible cramps I experienced on the old ones, so will chase that up.

I’m off soon on a nostalgic trip to Delamere Forest. I had a caravan nearby and will have a drive about, visit a farm shop, have a walk and a bite of lunch.

Hope your bruising fades Ashcombe, enjoy your trip Grandmattie and thoughts to all🌺

Good morning from Shropshire.Dry and chilly.

Yesterday we had torrential rain at times. The hard is looking so good and very different from the parched look of a couple of months ago.

DD1 and family arrived home from their holiday in the early hours.Their flight was delayed by a couple of hours. They are due in work and school this morning so are going to be very tired. We will take the little dog home after school.

Glad you had such a good day yesterday grandMattie.Hope your eyes aren’t too painful Ash.

Wishing everyone a good day and thoughts with all our absent friends🦩🌻

It’s interesting reading about your farming grandma not wearing trousers, I think that very few women did back then (although it was the Landgirls’ uniform).
My mother would never wear trousers outside of the house and she was a stickler for dressing smartly even if only going to the local shop. Certainly she made sure we three DCs were the same.
I remember longing for a pair of denim jeans (my mother was a wonderful seamstress and made all our clothes, tailored coats, wedding dresses, everything). My mother flatly refused so I saved up my pocket money for many months and when I came home with them she cut them up into pieces. Once I left home at 18 I dressed exactly as I wanted, jeans included!

Morning all from West Oxfordshire. It’s going to be another damp and muggy day. It was 21 degrees yesterday.

I had my flu jab yesterday. My arm is only a little sore. I’ll have a Covid jab next week, probably at a local pharmacy and will have to pay. I’m not quite old enough to have it done for free. I think the cost is around £80.

We are going out for lunch today to our favourite riverside restaurant.

On our return I have one more length of binding to prepare for the enormous quilt . I will endeavour to finish the thing over the weekend. At some point I will embroider various motifs on two or three of the plain squares.

Our back garden is awash with bits of beehive. Two of OH’s beehives had some sort of infection and he lost the colonies. He has been thoroughly disinfecting them hence the different sections all over the gardens. He reckons just a few more days and all should be ok. He will store them in the garage until the Spring. We can then ask our gardener to come back and tidy up the shrubs and flower beds for the Winter.

It is our local U3A open day tomorrow. OH organises the lunch group so will have a stall. I will print some bits and pieces off for him. Maybe some menus.

Have a good day. Some of you are going through extremely difficult times so I’m thinking of you all.

What a mean thing for your mother to do R&L quite nasty after you’d saved up for months. I bet you howled in anguish at that scene. Nasty.

Good morning from sunny Wiltshire.

Yesterday we turned up for our booked flu jabs to find they were only doing Covid ones. It said specifically on our notifications it was for flu. Luckily the pharmacist over the road was able to do them. Apart from a mild sore arm, no after effects at all.

We badly need more rain here as though we’ve had some, it’s just been showers. The photos of the Crammer pond in Devizes. The first one we took on 27/08/26 and the 2nd was from last week. It’s still completely dried up.

Hope you have a wonderful cruise BlueSapphire. Look forward to your photos.

Oh dear Ash. As Marydoll says it might be worth having a check over.

Gelisa my first Shingrix vaccine after effects were so bad I seriously contemplated not having the second. But though I felt bad for a couple of days this time, it was a lot better than the first.

Wishing everyone a good day.

glammagran Fri 16-Oct-26 09:24:36

Photos didn’t post. GN stated 2nd photo too large.

Good morning from mid Wales where it's bright and mild.

An exciting start to the morning after my relative's cat brought in a mouse. There are woodlands around here so wildlife is plentiful. The cat looked very proud of herself. Fortunately for us (but not for the mouse) the prey had been dispatched before being presented. I've buried the poor mouse a short distance from the cottage.

Today I'll spend cleaning the kitchen and doing a bit of weeding then I hope to doing a bit more knitting of the nativity characters for the church.

Liver and bacon tonight with carrots, broccoli and roasted potatoes followed by trifle made with chocolate Swiss roll. Then an early night.

Happy Friday all.

Thank you for the kindly messages about my bump and subsequent bruising to my eyes, one more than the other. I had considered seeking advice but I think I'll let nature take its course as healing will gradually happen. I've suffered black eyes before through bumps, including one inflicted by my DS when he was a toddler!!

Thank you for posting the photo of the Crammar in Devizes, Glammagran. My late great aunt lived in one of the houses overlooking it and I have fond memories of visiting her there.

It’s certainly a small world Ash. Sorry about spelling Crammar incorrectly. I dare say BlueSapphire knows it too.
