Good morning from soggy south Glos, I slept very badly so feeling very much like a piece of chewed string this morning 😵‍💫. I have no idea why I tossed and turned all night, I read half of my book in desperation in the early hours!
I have an Ocado shop arriving shortly, then, once it’s stopped raining, I will get the bags of loam put on my front borders; it shouldn’t take me long.
Sending hugs to all who are experiencing buggerations or a bumpy ride at the moment x
Nothing else planned for me today, I will go with the flow….
Wishing you all a good day 🌹

Morning from a damp S Hants, rain in the air but mild.
Voluntary phone yesterday had a few odd calls, people checking existing lift times, one lady was after a bus timetable!
Admin this morning along with bedding wash, not sure about dinner yet.
Ouch Ashcombe.

Good morning everyone from mid Essex. Blue sky and sunshine so far but I think rain may be on the way. It was raining when I went to bed but it didn’t last long.
I was so tired yesterday after a bad night on Sunday night, my back is always more painful when I’m tired, but I managed to strip the bed, put the electric blanket on and fought with the winter weight duvet getting the cover on! I had to hunt for the duvet, eventually found it in a bag under the spare bed!

Today will be less strenuous (hopefully). I have a telephone consultation with a doctor at the surgery, then may go for a walk. My new printer is being delivered this afternoon and I have a Cook food delivery this evening. Otherwise a quiet day.

What a rude awakening ash I hope you haven’t got too many bruises today.

I’ll come back later for a proper catch up, in the meantime have as a good day as you can everyone.

Good morning everyone from Inverness where it’s dry with light grey clouds
Oh Ash that sounds awful, hope you’re not too bruised
We had a change of plan yesterday and the dgc and puppy all arrived in the evening to stay over a couple of days. The evening went well, the puppy eventually settled although she was a bit more boisterous with the dgc being there than when she’s here on her own. I’m not sure what we’re doing today but I think we’ll stay in, dgd has brought a mini cross stitch to do and dgs will probably want to play a game. DH has just taken Molly the puppy out and I’m enjoying the quiet of the house and a cup of tea before they both get up.
I can definitely understand glammagran, these two here can be a bit like that, definitely winding each other up and yes it’s exhausting,
Hope everyone has the best day they can, take care all 💐

Good morning from a mild but wet and windy Morecambe Bay. Not the best day to head up the M6, which is my plan for this morning as I have arranged to meet a friend.
Yesterday’s plan to put my clients garden to bed didn’t happen. Her garden had burst into late colour with second flushes of flowers. It seemed criminal to cut it all back so we had a cup of tea and a good chat instead and I arranged to return in a couple of weeks. From experience nothing lasts long in the garden once November arrives and the weather then is not the best. I usually do a mix of cutting back and leaving some to die back naturally for the wildlife to shelter. This approach makes it a touch easier for when I wake the gardens up in the spring.
The chiropodist said the best course of action would be to see the GP for tablets to deal with my toes but offered a couple of other suggestions which may or may not work. Removing 5 toenails will not be the option I choose! She was very gentle and gave my feet a good pedicure as well as a bundle of foot creams.
I haven’t read any posts yet as I’m typing this on notes ready to copy and paste into the thread. That way I won’t get the brief flash as my post disappears before my eyes! And if it does I’ve still got the original. Take care everyone 🌸

Good morning all from Essex, with bright skies and the heating hasn’t come on so warmer than yesterday.

The conservatory roof is now finished and we said goodbye to the lovely chaps who were so professional and a pleasure to have around and no trouble at all. Next stage is the plastering of the ceiling tomorrow. I hope he’s as good.

Yesterday our chimes group met and our ‘leader’ came in having been at the Funeral Directors for 2 hours. Her Dh died last week which was a huge shock. We listened to her and then had a few laughs, coffee and pastries which lightened the mood.

Today I have Bridge

What a day you had Marzipan. I’m glad it was sorted quickly.
Your poor neighbour and her business.

I hope you’re not too bruised Ashcombe. Waking up with a bump is a shock.

I hope you’re not too all have a trouble-free day. 🌻

Good morning all from a wet Black country yesterday was much the same damp and drizzly.
A local shop then back to ironing and start a new book.
Love the jacket Karma my favourite colours.
Ash what a shock hope there are not to many after effects.
Have the best day you can everyone whatever your plans, safe travels those on the move and virtual hugs where needed.

Good morning from another sunny start to the day in Suffolk. I’ve skimmed very quickly through the posts and can see that yesterday was a difficult day for some. I hope today is easier and calmer and all have a good one.

I am taking a friend to her appt this morning with the anaesthetist about her hip replacementt appt planned for next week. So far she’s had contradictory advice about how long in advance she should stop certain medication. I think she feels she needs support to challenge,if necessary, what she is told today.

We plan to have lunch out afterwards and mull over how she wants to proceed.

I have papers to read before my monthly meeting tomorrow which, luckily,is only a short morning one rather than a full day.

I love your newest project Karmalady….such lovely material.

NannyJan53 Tue 13-Oct-26 08:24:44

Good morning from a very rainy Black Country.

Mums eye test at home yesterday went very well. No change in prescription. Not bad for 96! The two girls were saying how she was the best client that day. Then proceeded to tell me how one man they saw kept threatening them with a knife! His Carers seemed unphased and had to keep taking it off him. I am afraid I would have walked out!

No real plans today, see how the day unfolds.

Son in Law is 53 today! DD is 5 years younger they have been together since she was 18.

Wishing you all the best day possible

Good morning everyone from very close to Hexham in Northumberland. It’s dry and there’s a peek of sunshine behind a huge weeping willow tree outside the bedroom I’m in. It’s taller than the house and apparently a tree surgeon gives it a semi regular haircut.

My cousin and his solicitous partner (an ex headmistress - very organised and all jolly hockey sticks) have arranged a ‘run out’ today, setting off late morning to make the most of supposedly improving weather. They were planning the itinerary in between the quiz shows they love last night.

Lucky me for their planning ahead as I’m the beneficiary of a mystery tour today! 😁

harrigran Tue 13-Oct-26 08:41:40

Good morning from a wet and windy NE. It is mild for the time of year.
Had a lazy day yesterday, spent most of the day catching up with recorded TV programmes.

Oh Ashcombe hope you are not too bruised. Falling out of bed is a shock to the system. I did it last year and developed all sorts of odd aches and pains.

Sorry to hear you're being pestered with night cramps Baubles, have you had your B12 levels tested ? Certain health conditions predispose to a deficiency.
My elder sister is visiting this afternoon, last afternoon tea together as she returns to Germany next week.
Have a good day.

Good morning all. A trip to the cinema is planned after a late night was had last night. We went to see jimmy nail at the glasshouse Gateshead he was fantastic reminiscing down memory lane and I have to say the glasshouse is a beautiful venue. The place was fully packed as he is a local lad done well. Some cooking and prep before afternoon out weather turning a lot milder. Jumpers on girls!

BlueSapphire Tue 13-Oct-26 08:58:35

Good morning everyone from a slightly cloudy Northampton, a few showers this morning, then a dry sunny 🌞 afternoon.
Just put the towels in the washing machine, they should dry nicely.

Did very little yesterday, ended up putting the tv on in the afternoon, and catching up with some recorded programmes.

Don't want to do that this afternoon so have decided to join my walking group. Be nice to be in company walking. It is also the 8th anniversary of our first walk!

Wishing all a pleasant Tuesday.

Good morning all from my bed, where I intend to remain. 12°C and wet

You must have got a dreadful fright, Ash. I hope there are no lasting effects.

Beautiful jacket, Karma; It is like something fromvn expensive boutique. I would wear that with pride,

I was so upset to read Stilllearning's sad news. She is one of our lovely Glasgow grans. 💐

The GP yesterday was rather short with me and kept interrupting me, when I was trying to explain.
Her first words were; I see you are here about a cough. I explained the asthma nurse had made the appointment, not me.

She then commented, I seemed to be rather an anxious person.
I challenged that and said the GPs, who know me, would refute that.
However, I am seasoned vistor to the surgery and was having none of it.

I was able to state the names of every clinician involved and the approx dates. That changed the tone,
She looked back my records and saw that I have been battling this chronic cough for five years, despite me constantly seeking help.
I explained there was a letter on file from the hospital, regarding this. After reading it, she agreed to refer me back to the respiratory professor.

She said my bloods were fine ( good news) , I said I was pleased, because my recent RA bloods had been causing concern and I may have to change biologics.
She sniffed and said they were OK, as far as she could see.
These were the very bloods, that resulted in an emergency RA appointment.😧

When I explained I had been very unwell on Sunday, she dismissed that as a bug.
I tried to explain that I have spells like this and a few years ago, I was admitted to hospital, due to them..
Because I hadn't previously informed anyone, about them, (untrue), she said I would have to make another appointment and wasn't prepared to prescribe any anti- sickness medicine.
I felt nothing, but despair.

I did something, I have never done before with a GP, I challenged her and said the only the only anxiety I had was, that no-one would help me find a solution for my exhausting cough. and that I stopped feeling nauseous.

She rolled her eyes and then handed me a script for the anti nausea medication, which she had earlier refused.

I was then informed that I was been well looked after by the rheumatology team, to which I responded that, I was not disputing that, but it was the respiratory team, I needed to see and that I had a poor quality of life at the moment.

She seemed to soften a little and said I was indeed unwell and I was to come back, if the dizzy spells did not improve,
Her parting words were that I had to slow down.😱

Once I started the anti nausea pills, I slept for most of the day,

I felt quite down, when I got home,

I wish you all a pleasant day, whatever your plans.

Morning all from a damp and strangely humid West Oxfordshire.

Yesterday was hectic. Cleaning lady cleaned, I did a Waitrose shop, listened to two lectures from the V&A on Georgian Art and Architecture and finally spent the afternoon at my over the road friend’s craft group. A bunch of us made poppies for a display in the Village for Remembrance. They are made from felt, crochet and knitted.

Laundry today and maybe some hand quilting. I will visit friends this afternoon.

Lovely jacket Karma!

Ashcombe Tue 13-Oct-26 10:23:38

Well done, you, Marydoll!

When will the GP's who behave like this wake up to the fact that we are their customers or clients as much as being their patients? It is ludicrous how some try to wriggle out of they responsibility to treat us. I think it is particularly prevalent in the attitude of some towards the elderly whom they think they can bully into submission. They need to realise that many of us grew up in the Sixties when protesting was rife!

Thank you for your kind messages of sympathy for me this morning. I was dreaming vividly just before it happened. Not sure who was the most shocked .....…. me, DH or Perry who was outside pawing at the window!

karmalady Tue 13-Oct-26 10:32:50

Thank you so much re the quilted jacket

Honestly anyone with a sewing machine and a steam iron could make it. The fabric was a ready-quilted fabric from pound fabrics, 2m and you need some bias binding, the good stuff from Frumble fabrics, or make your own. Mine was 1" wide made from 2" wide strips

Once the binding is on then just sit down and hand sew it down on the wrong side. If you have an overlocker then it is easy to finish the inside seams, if not then those seams can be hidden with bias binding sewn over them

The pattern was hovea by Megan Nielsen and costs a bit over £20 but can of course be used over and over again. She has a sew-along on her website

Just cut accurately in single layers if using quilted fabric, if it says on the fold then cut one and flip the pattern over for the other half

The sizing, look at that carefully eg if a hippy person then just grade out a bit for the waist to hips

I did not line mine, no need

Redcar Tue 13-Oct-26 10:53:11

Sorry you didn’t get more help from your doctor marydoll but good for you for standing up for yourself.

karma that is a pretty jacket, and thank you for the explanation of making it. Not sure I would attempt it though, my sewing skills were never very good and are non existent now.
I did manage to cast on some stitches for one of the 8 year old DGDs last week, haven’t done that in years either so was surprised I could remember how to do it.

Enjoy your mystery tour fgt!

Thinking of all those who are unwell or anxious for any reason, have the best day you can.

Just had a quick read of the later posts. Glad you're ok, Ashcombe My MiL once rolled out of bed at our caravan. Luckily the quilt rolled with her to soften her landing.

MaryDoll, I'm horrified at the way you were treated yesterday. It's awful and there's the fear of complaining in case it makes them have you as a target if you see them again.

DD is 27 and I still remember the appaling way I was treated at my 6 week post partum checkup by a temporary GP.

They are in a position of authority and unfortunately the communication skills of some leave a lot to be desired. Our neice is a GP and I can't imagine her speaking to her patients so dismissively.

Sending you an unmumsnetty hug. XX

EkwaNimitee Tue 13-Oct-26 11:49:48

Good for you Marydoll ! But all this stress of constantly battling medics doesn’t help your health problems, does it?

aggie Tue 13-Oct-26 12:33:52

Hi all from Donegal , sunshine and showers here and gusts of very strong wind
Mali head was great yesterday , but the best bit was finding the place we had a Mobile home for 20years !
So nostalgic ! the small beach was as deserted as ever
Sorry you didn’t get a sympathetic doctor Marydoll
