It’s Tuesday and I have a few grumps

Inspired by Cossie here goes :
(1) Just been diagnosed pre-diabetic and have to ease off my daily consumption of chocolates and biscuits. Oh how I miss them!!!! I have a bar of cadburys whole nut, and took a teeny bite.
(2) Visited my friend’s newly decorated house. Returned home to my ‘could-do-with-a-paint living room’ . It hurt so much -had a glass of wine to make me feel better . It’s all in the eye of the beholder
(3) Came up to bed hoping to have a nice sleep, when I discovered I had run out of my medication

Go on what are your grumps for today ?

Woke up.this morning with cystitis. Had planned a long walk but no chance now. That's my Thursday grump.

Where do I start? I go to a weekly activity with a friend & (distant) relative and the relative is driving me MAD. She is such a martyr to her family and so flipping sanctimonious, it just sucks the joy out of everything. We had a reprise of all her ‘greatest hits’ on today’s journey andI am wondering whether to change to another local group.
Then I had a migraine last evening, meaning we had to cancel a meal out with other friends.
Finally I have a scary medical appointment next week. Aaaargh!!

It isn't Tuesday but these are my grumps for today. I stopped at the bank to pay my charge bill. The associate handed me the receipt and said have a good day. I asked about my change, she looked at me, looked at the statement and then gave me the correct amount. I then went to meet a friend for coffee, ordered and paid for a large, I got a medium. Small stuff, but I was irritated.

We have a new dog she is gorgeous but wants so much attention. I'm a night owl anyway up until the early hours feeding hedgehogs and foxes.
My arthritic joints are acting up so now I need some sleep at least for a few hours!

I fell heavily on my foot and have broken a bone so now have crutches and a moon boot as my new fashion accessories! Ugh crutches are such a nuisance!! As is the moon boot… oh the relief when I take it off to get into bed - only 5 weeks to go … hopefully 🤞

To Crazy H: I have not been able to eat any chocolate for decades because of migraines! - I just sniff it!!

Grump for today (and yesterday and tomorrow .......) - blooming hopeless health!! - bring back my normal functioning body! - which I took entirely for granted .... sigh.

My friend who had this problem discovered she could eat white chocolate. Sadly she has been enjoying this so much the GP has told her her glucose level is too high .

Oh, I forgot the traffic light sat a major road junction were out of commission both when I went and when I retured, Electricians and vans on all sides of the T junction, but gone are the days when police directed traffic on these occasions.

AuntieE Tue 13-Oct-26 15:29:53

My preferred cycling route to the nearest small town for shopping is in such a bad state due to heavy lorries owned by the municipal heating plant, electricity company etc. etc. having torn up the road and done Dxxm all about it, that I had to leave my bike and walk 3 km each way!

The grass is still soaking wet and unlikely to get drier, but it does need to be mown again before the winter, and my right leg is still complaining bitterly about my mowing the lawns three weeks ago.

But at least I still can walk 6 km, 3 of them with 2kilos of potatoes, four tubs of cream, three packets of yeast, and a new winter jacket in a back-pack.

Tuesday is always my grump day, too far from last weekend, not close to next. This morning I took my son into town to go to work, got back home and switched on the coffee, then my car alarm started going. It was only 7.30, I was worried about waking the neighbours. It kept going off, in the end I went out three times, checked the doors, switched the engine on and off. Only on the third attempt did I see that the bonnet was slightly open - my son must have knocked the bonnet release with his bag when he got out of the car. Typical Tuesday.

I had my flu jab on Saturday and now I feel like I've got a "mini" flu - sniffle, headache etc.

Having to think about heating the house as it gets colder.
Arthritis in hands and tiring too quickly.
Lack of interest in preparing food.
Backache.

Apart from the Arthritis, that sounds like me.

Thatweirdoagain, 7 times a night! I recognise that. Vagurux vaginal tablets put a stop to that. I was even having trouble walking , each step felt like someone bouncing on my bladder! and always looking for a loo. I still need to get up in the night once and sometimes twice- massive improvement!
I am considerably older than you so been appreciating the benefits of Vagurux for a number of years. Might be worth speaking to your GP, he/she won't know if you dont tell . Good luck.

I can see why you were put out, but the good thing is his replacement sounds fine, and being young is a bonus, hopefully he’ll be there for years.

I have posted about my grump-gripe already on the Good Morning thread but I am still niggled by it.
Yesterday I went for my 6 month check up at the dentist.
I have been with this practice for about 40 years.
I walked into the room to be greeted by a new young dentist.
No warning, no heads up by the receptionist.
It appears my original chap who I have been with for certainly more than 28 years is stepping back as he is coming up to retirement age, fair enough , but then I was told this happened two weeks after my last appointment.
We were on Christian name terms as we knew each other so well and I felt sad that he didn’t say anything then. I am still a NHS patient as when they went mostly private the remaining NHS folk were kept .
He apparently is still seeing his private patients for now.
I felt like a poor relation but not enough to be asked to transfer to his list and pay.
The new chap was good and efficient and said my teeth were fine.

Got up this morning with a bounce in my step feeling slimmer and fitter.
Stubbed my toe on the bathroom door, jumped on the scales and I’m 2lbs heavier. 😫
Thought I’d do the hoovering in my pyjamas then enjoy a late breakfast.
Fat chance…My black bin has just been emptied and the wind is blowing it along the pavement. 😫😫
Ho Hum!

That made me laugh 🤭

No gripes from me this morning but the week is yet young😁
For those annoyed with their GP surgery for pestering them, they are doing it for your own benefit not theirs you know.
If there’s any action you don’t want let them know, don’t just ignore it.

TheWeirdoAgain60 Tue 13-Oct-26 10:12:47

Redhead56, I know what you're saying! My surgery used to absolutely pester me with phone text messages multiple times. ''You need a jab for this, an injection for that, tests. Make an appointment for bloods'' blah blah. And the same boring, BORING questions over and over again. I'm 61 and don't normally have serious health issues; I'm quite fit!

They were literally ... and I'm not exaggerating... ringing and texting me up to 5 times a week. I honestly felt like I was being stalked and harassed. One day I got another text from them about 5 minutes before they closed, when I came home from work, which was about 6 am after a 18-hour shift, demanding I make an appointment immediately. I know they sent the text a few hours before I received it, but I burst into tears.

From that tearful moment, I refused to keep having to bend down to worship them and wouldn't make any more appointments. A friend in her 80s had the same problem too, and apart from a mini stroke, she's reasonably fit and active.

So I came up with the idea of going to the surgery, and the receptionist snottily wanted to know why I'd not been replying for several weeks, not keeping appointments they they had ordered but I didn't consent to, so I told her I no longer have a phone, so I didn't know they were trying to contact me!! Which I do actually still have it, but they don't know that!! She was horrified! ''You no longer have a smartphone? How are we supposed to contact you?'' I asked her how they did in the old days before phones of any sort were invented. She looked blank! If they want to contact me, it's by post now, which I can ''accidentally'' not receive!

My little grumps of today are:

1 - Not being able to get the lid off a bleach bottle, no matter how much I press down and twist it! Even though I'm very strong!

2 - When putting on my shoes and the back of one of them flattens, and I just CAN'T get it on, so I have to use a metal straw as a shoehorn!

3 - When the menopause forces me to the loo a whopping 7 times in the night, and I'm utterly exhausted from the lack of sleep it causes, so I'm at work looking and feeling like a zombie!

Calendargirl Tue 13-Oct-26 09:50:59

Another dog issue.

Fairly new next door neighbours, 2 dogs, not usually too bad, but this morning one of them sat outside their back door, barking away for ages.

The husband had gone out in his work van, I suspect wifey still in bed and just ignoring the barking.

I was cleaning the bathroom, window open, and bark, bark, bark all the time.

🤬

(Finally the d..n dog has been let in).

I've just developed a bunion and can't get half of my shoes on! I'm small and want the extra height of wearing heels, but the bunion has put paid to that. 😪
Having to dig up the remains of my lovely camelia bush which died during our hot spell.
After years of loving to cook, I really find it a bind now, I still do it, but wish I could get my enthusiasm back.
The lack of high street clothes shops - fed up of ordering things online, then having to send them back when they don't suit me (which is most of the time!).
But the biggest gripe - not sleeping well - oh, I so wish I could get 8 hours uninterrupted sleep like I used to, not a chance.

Oldnproud Tue 13-Oct-26 09:22:54

Cossy

Well, where to begin…

Not sleeping well as two of DD mini sausages keep creeping up to our room and getting into our bed and they are tiny, but they sneak under the covers, and wiggle a lot! However, they are also very warm, a bit like living bottle water bottles.

Also my GP receptionist appears to have cancelled an appointment I had today, which as “non urgent” I waited three weeks for grrrrr

Arthritis in hands, particularly in my thumb areas, and knees and hips so much worse now it’s getting colder.

Hey ho!

You can imagine the daft picture i have in my mind of two little sausages (chipolatas ?) creeping up the stairs and into your room 😁
Thank you for cheering me up.

shysal Tue 13-Oct-26 09:17:08

Went to use my electric drill this morning to fix a key safe to the front of my house, and found that DD, who borrowed it 3 years ago, still has it. I have a spare old drill, but found the bits are missing, so also at DDs.
Items I have lent and never seen again include: 4 brand new pillows, a blow-up mattress plus electric pump, all of which I have had to replace.

I agree in the loss of interest in preparing food, and I do wish I could lose interest in eating grin
