A quick warning

I m sure most on here are as clued up or more so than me but just want to warn you there's a clothes company online with what looks like really nice clothes called M &S They even have the models standing outside a Marks and Spencer store BUT it’s a Chinese (Temu like firm) and the clothes will be nothing like Marks stuff. There is another which purports to be connected to Support Breast Cancer again really nice looking clothes in the pictures but trash in real life and absolutely nothing to do with Breast cancer or any other charity
Just a warning to not get taken in

Thanks BlueBelle

Thank you.
I suspected as much, due to the frequency and length of ads.

GrannyGravy13 Mon 12-Oct-26 12:40:50

Unfortunately these are everywhere at the moment, there is even a weight loss thing apparently from Boots, of course it isn’t.

Hate to say it and going on the usual judgemental reactions here but I have had some really nice clothes from Temu . Some have British labels on and also European ones. They do say Made in China as well but if you check clothes most actually are made in China these days. Not many factories left in Europe. Temu uses many different sources , the same ones as Amazon but I suppose they are ok because they are ‘American’.

I keep seeing dresses that I really fancy but am scared to order anything from Temu having seen the reviews.

Shel1951 Mon 12-Oct-26 13:23:43

If you see something say from Boots,M and S etc,go to the official Boots app,
And I might add nothing wrong with Shien ,Temu, Amazon, its a market place you just have to go to the (stall) seller you like, I have a couple of sellers I use for bedding rugs etc, also look at the reviews make sure they have plenty, and AI them too,

BlueBelle Mon 12-Oct-26 14:54:06

Nana8 and Shell first it’s entirely up to you but I cannot buy off Temu because of the way the Uyghurs are treated in the factories making the stuff for you to buy cheaply It’s horrendous but if you are happy with that, entirely up to you and your conscience I m sure if you read up on it you would feel the same, anyone with a heart would

Secondly these are not Temu or Shein but Chinese companies using well known British firms names with a tiny difference
It’s called cheating and it’s not alright at all I would have thought Marks in particular would have done something about it but I m sure there is a loophole that they can’t get past or else they would have.
I got caught out buying a cream for arthritis which was presumably sponsored by Dragons Den only to find that they were just using DD s name not sponsored by them at all. Silly fool me eh ?

Yes I nearly always do watch the reviews on Trust pilot but theres always the one time you see something love it and send for it in good faith and get caught

Yes a lot of clothes are made in China and I thought all the workers in the Chinese clothing factories were paid the same. The difference is that the girls who work for Temu, Shein etc have to work longer hours and overtime to get paid the same as those who work for John Lewis etc.
I got a lovely cardigan from Shein for£12 before I knew this but won’t order again.
I actually looked it up and hence the cheap prices.

Shel1951 Mon 12-Oct-26 15:17:12

Yes I'll AI it ,thought mAnd s clothes made in India and China

Aveline Mon 12-Oct-26 15:20:35

If I find an item I've bought is particularly comfortable I often find, on checking the label, that it's been made in Bangladesh. They seem to produce well made items in good quality materials. I've found them in M&S and Sainsbury's Tu.

Avery Lane is a site best avoided. I saw a dress that looked just what I needed. What arrived looked nothing like what was advertised. No response from so called Customer Services so have raised a dispute with my card issuer. Lesson learnt.

The only place I see these ads is on GN. I never look at them. With a few exceptions I shop for clothes in person. Not too difficult as I do not buy many clothes.

MayBee70 Mon 12-Oct-26 18:06:22

The scam Seasalt advert is doing the rounds again using footage of actual shops. And lots of things are advertised as being on dragons Den but aren’t.

JamesandJon33 Mon 12-Oct-26 18:09:17

They also do Boots and Birkenstock .

David49 Mon 12-Oct-26 18:17:02

Most clothes are already made in Asia, China, Vietnam, India, Indonesia, to name a few, so unless it's a genuine designer item assume it is. Major retailers do try to check wages and conditions but it's easy for subcontractors to be used without being checked.

MayBee70 Mon 12-Oct-26 18:17:16

I’ve been caught out twice with scam adverts; thought it wouldn’t happen again after the first time. There’s a Christmas Lego one doing the rounds at the moment that almost drew me in. I must remember to always check things out with Trustpilot.

Esmay Mon 12-Oct-26 18:26:46

And be super careful when ordering from Amazon .
I notice that the terrible quality yoga pants are are still being sold and have a great write up .
The seams spilt the first time you wear them .
They never stop shedding colour .
They come from Thailand and are the sort of cheap fun things that you might buy in Bali on holiday and ditch.

Esmay Mon 12-Oct-26 18:32:02

Split -I mean !
I need to wear my glasses if I could find them .

Maremia Mon 12-Oct-26 18:37:27

Agree with you about the Uyghurs, BlueBelle.
