TheWeirdo, I did laugh at your description of the spilled wine chaos!

Good Morning Monday 12th October 2026
(52 Posts)God Morning Everyone,
Its dark but dry outside here in Brackley at the moment.
Today, I will get the bus into Bicester , do a shop have a beer or two and also chat to those who know me .
Health is OK,
Take Care,
Mick
Good morning from West Sussex where it is raining steadily. DH has gone to his volunteering place where he helps with wood recycling. I have been having a late breakfast of toast and marmalade and coffee and planning a programme of ‘putting away) and putting out’. Having had my three quarters of a century birthday recently and reading posts on here, I am conscious of the need both to simplify and ‘expect the unexpected’!
I am so sorry to hear of Stilllearning’s eye condition having deteriorated so much and there being no treatment. I know we have a support group locally for people with macular degeneration. I hope there may be one where she is.
Marydoll and madeleine, you are both having such a hard time in different ways. I hope for some relief for both of you.
Grandmattie, we have Dimplex electric storage heaters in our East Lothian flat and find them very good and flexible. We can set them according to whether we are ‘at home all day’ or out and can just press a button on the app on our phones to get a ‘boost’ of an hour or more. Our son-in-law also has the app on his phone so we have him as a back-up if necessary.
I’d better start putting my ‘grand plan’ into action before DH gets back and asks what I’ve been doing all day 😀
Hello from Donegal it’s dry and dull and mild
I’d forgotten how beautiful this county is
We went for a walk along the beach , dog had a great time , another dog turned up and they barked at each other , ended up good friends
Heading for Malin Head later , I’ll stay in the car I’ve been before and steep cliffs , crashing waves and a wind that pierces are not my favourite!
Thinking of the poorly
Good morning, Michael12 and everyone!
OK, I know you'll all probably think I'm an evil sausage for laughing, and I am, but ....
Last night I was in my favourite Fine Dine Indian restaurant again.
I was in the corner facing the window, casually people-watching those outside, having a lovely meal and drinks.... oh my cod, their Magners was so ice cold and gorgeousnagain...! I'm minding my own business, and from the window reflections, at my back to the left, was a table of 1 man and 3 women. They looked like a brother and his sisters.
One woman was definitely holding court; yappy yap yap she was, very ''arm-y'' with arms and hands all over the place. Then, as she was moving her arms and hands like helicopter blades while yappityyap, one hand caught a wine glass, which knocked into another, so there was wine and broken glass over the table, and then, in that second where everyone screams and scrambles to get away and pick things up, another woman knocks a glass over sending it spilling into the man's meal, then as he quickly stood up, he forgot he'd tucked the end of the table cloth into the waistband of his trousers, so that sent various glass, wine and meals spluttering everywhere! It was absolute carnage!
They were all scrambling around; yapper had a huge blotch of red wine all over the very expensive-looking cream top, various waiters scampering around to clear things up, and all 4 guests had the embarrassment of seeing other diners watching them, and some were laughing!
I pretended not to notice, but in my mind I was on the floor howling with laughter!
As I used to work in restaurants and cafes, I've seen total destruction at times!
That's the end of the Jim and Jane saga! She was standing outside her shop, having a horrendous coughing fit to the point she was doubled up. Jim came out of his shop with a glass of water and, in all genuineness, asked her if she wants him to go the the chemist and get her some medicine or logengers or whatever, he'll pay for it.
She gave him a vile look, knocked the water from his hand and barked ''I don't want your ''bleeping'' charity''. Sending broken glass on the pavement for him to pick up.
He no longer has anything more to do with her for any reason, which is understandable. She won't speak to me after I told her a few homes truths outside the supermarket a few days ago, and when I recently went into buy something from her, I was happy to pay £90.00 in cash, she wouldn't speak to me, or look at me or serve me.
A customer of mine who she doesn't know went in and wanted to but somethnug for £75.00 but she refused to sell it to him, making up excuses. She's lost £165.00 of business just from us 2, + other sales too. When I've been in her shop I've seen how acidy she can be to customers. She's really quite evil.
She keeps changing her times and days of opening, isn't open for great chunks of the week, and now her landlord is threatening to toss her out because she's been there about 3 months, paid the 1st months rent, but makes excuses about not paying the other 2, saying '' I can't afford it because I don't make any regular sales'' but he told her if she was to actually open up at least 5 days a week and keep regular open/close times, and sell things, she'd then have the money to pay the rent. He told her she has until the 30th of November to pay in full, or she won't be there in December. So now she's going around everyone bleating about the harshness of it all! She's a very strange turnip!
See you all later!
I feel incredibly sad for Stilllearning she must feel as though the rug has been pulled from under her.
Sorry to hear the news about stilllearning, what a blow for her.
Thinking of all who are suffering in any way, may the day bring some relief for you.
Late to the party again after yet another night of waking at 3.00 am and finally dropping off again at 6.00 am. Don’t know why this pattern has developed but it’s an absolute pain. Fortunately today is blank apart from the gardener this afternoon so not much will be demanded of me.
Dismal news from Marydoll,Stilllearning and Madeleine so hoping today brings more positive news for them. Particularly hard for Madeleine navigating such difficulties on her own - I so miss having someone “on my side” when dealing with the inevitable problem life throws up.
georges, yes. Anchor doesn’t permit any gas on the premises because they have deemed we are too unreliable….
So, although, most of my heaters are modern, they still are not very helpful, because you have to guess tomorrow’s weather (and how you cold will be feeling) when they are heated overnight. I loathe them!
Glammagran, dgs2 loves lentil soup. Dgs1 won't touch it!
Good morning from overcast Wiltshire. The heating has kicked in for the last 3 days. It will go off by 10:30am. We haven’t needed it in the evenings yet. I’ve read that overnight tonight maybe very warm as a plume of hot and wet air hits the UK, the remanants of a hurricane.
DD2’s cappuccino cake turned out to be one of the best I’ve made. I’m certainly never going to win a competition but for once, it wasn’t dry round the edges. The kids were manic when we visited.
Grandmabatty I’m so envious that your DGS2 eats lentil soup. It’s one of my favourites. The GCs won’t even try a taste of it. School pickup today and they will have macaroni cheese which they have had alternate weeks for the last four years. I cannot understand why they are not bored stiff with it. I certainly am from making it. GS2 will occasionally eat a homemade burger but the only protein GD3 eats is cheese and yogurt. And I’m not even sure it’s really protein.
Commiserations to all those who are feeling unwell. I hope all is well with the missing posters.
Have a good day everyone.
Are you required by Anchor to have/keep those inefficient night storage heaters gM?. There are many, far more efficient electric radiators available on the market, so they could be easily swapped by a qualified electrician and you could keep the old units to return your flat to its original specifications if necessary.
Good morning from Shropshire.Raining at the moment.
After a few weeks of early appointments I am enjoying not having to set the alarm for a few days.We are looking after DD’s little dog but she is not an early riser and doesn’t like the rain so a lazy start here.
No need for heating yet although maybe today if the sun doesn’t appear. The conservatory gets very warm and as we have the dog at the moment are living in there this week.
No plans today but will take the day as it comes.
I hope the GP is helpful Marydoll and that you get answers from the hospital madeleine. My thoughts are with Stilllearning. What a shock, I hope there is something that can help.
Wishing everyone a good day 🦩🌻
Good Morning everyone from a rainy central south coast. The wind has eased and it is not as chilly.
Yesterday DH helped me change my bed and put the winter duvet on and it was lovely and cosy last night after I had been so cold in bed on Saturday night. The site of the covid jab was still painful but is easing now.
DGD1 turned up as arranged, collected from the train station by her longstanding taxi driver (Grandad) and we went over the road for lunch. She is vegan and they have several options that she could choose from. On return home, back across the road, she asked me lots of questions about my Mum and it was so nice to tell her on a one to one basis. Grandad dropped her back at the train station and then retired to watch football on TV. I caught up on YouTubes I follow, in the study.
Today we are doing laundry and it's DGD2's birthday - she is one year younger than DGD1 and they are cousins.
Have the best day you can and I hope that those with health problems get some ease and comfort today.
Good morning all from the Scottish Borders. A cold start.
A better night for me after a very busy day yesterday sorting out books again for the van from Shelter due this morning and also helping watching my friends fill the skip with contents of the attics. They managed to hide a double mattress not permitted
There are at least 2 bed bases too.
I took the team out to lunch at the community café. The volunteer run cinema in the evening showed Shawshank Redemption. Such a good film.
Today after exercise class, I am viewing another house.
So sorry to hear about Stilllearning's eyesight Baubles . That will be a huge blow.
Your weekend sounds fun Marzipan.
Family get togethers are great.
Hoping for a good day both health and weather-wise for all the Good Morning crew.
Good morning from a cool, but still Durham. Of course my heating is on. We might be a hardy bunch up North, but we don’t deny ourselves home comforts!
Lovely day with DD2 and DGS2 yesterday - only spoiled when he realised he’d left his new book (I’d just bought it) at a fruit and vegetable stall. I’m going to see if it’s still there and if not, I’ll buy the book again.
My friend is 71 today, so I’m taking her to a local garden centre for a bit of lunch, then after I drop her off, I’m heading back to another garden centre, to look for DGS2’s lost book. I want other stuff there, but prefer to go on my own.
I’ve phone calls to make, but they can wait, if I run out of time today.
Sorry to hear you’re so unwell Marydoll - hoping there’s some developments at your appointment today.
Best wishes to all. X
“A Lion in Winter” must be my favourite film of all time, Blue. The accents didn’t bother me, as the “English” most likely spoke Norman French anyway….
Thanks for the info re. Heating.
I don’t have that luxury any more, not with these blooming night storage heaters. They are essentially on or off, churching out heat all day.
Yeah, ok, they have “timers” but I believe they are for effect rathar than use….
Good morning from a late start from sunny Suffolk. I woke at my usual time at 7 ish and then, when I looked at the clock it was 8am. Just enjoying my 1st cup of tea and will read your posts with it.
Today will be a quiet one which means Ihave no excuse to ignore the pile of ironing which grabs my attention as I go into one of the spare bedrooms.
It is DGS1’s 17th birthday today and,as these youngsters seem to do now,he has his 1st driving lesson after school. Luckily the instructor who taught DGD2 has fitted him in. She went travelling just after teaching her( the 2 not connected I’m told) and is now back and building up her business again.
I remember my worries when our children started driving and it is no easier with the DGC.
I hope today is an easy one for all, especially those with worries and/ or ill health.
That must be a blow for Stilllearning. My heart goes out to her
Good morning from a dull northwest coast. I enjoyed my quiet day yesterday, although I slipped up whilst doing a spot of mending. I enjoy mending, I don’t sew really, but find it relaxing. However, I turned up some too long trousers, and my goodness they are long these days, only to find I had turned up one leg the wrong way round! Had to take it out and start again…
I practised a lot too as my voice will not improve if I don’t sing more and I have a few concerts coming up. It’s not as obedient these days and I have to husband it and be clever. Tried my new hand held steamer on a concert dress, but I’ll need an iron to finish it off properly.
FaceTime with flying DD in the south who had had lunch with my SIL and she came up with nice plans for Christmas and also an exciting flight with her as a cling on.
I’m off for a routine blood test soon, then pick up a couple of homemade ginger wine plus some groceries.
Thoughts to Stilllearning, I’m so sorry and all with worries any kind🌺
Crossed post baubles
What a shock for stilllearning big hug going her way and hopefully she can find an aid that will help. I can’t imagine how she feels.
Good morning everyone from a dull and overcast Northampton, showers expected later.
Yesterday was lovely, and I had a nice walk to the paper shop and postbox in the morning. Washed three autumn/winter jackets, which dried nicely outside on the line.
Didn't do a lot apart from that; watched an old film on tv (The Lion in Winter) which I found a lot more interesting this time than when I first saw it in the late 60s. And Katharine Hepburn's American accent (as Eleanor of Aquitaine) was distinctly out of place!
No plans for today apart from thinking about what clothes I am going to take on holiday. Might start getting a few things together.
So sorry to hear the news about Stillearning, how devastating for her.
An easy dinner tonight, home-made Bolognese from the freezer, so just pasta to cook.
Wishing all a pleasant Monday.
Morning, 14 and soft rain in S Hants. Yesterday was our usual quiet Sunday, caught up with a couple of programmes and ordered some Christmas bits.
Today is voluntary phone, around that some light housework.
Bedding change tomorrow and electric blanket will go on, it’s only me that uses my side. MrJ only gets chilly if he’s under the weather.
Have a pleasant day all.

Good morning from dry South Lanarkshire, it must have been cold through the night as the heating has kicked in.
The show yesterday was funny although the humour was a little too near the knuckle for me, the tv programme is mild in comparison.
I’ve had a message from Stilllearning, she was dealt a severe blow at her recent appointment at the Ophthalmology hospital department. She has asked me to pass it on so I’ve copied part of her message.
“ I was told that the macular degeneration is now affecting both eyes. I had realised that I was really struggling with reading but it had not even crossed my mind that this could happen. The deterioration in my vision has been dramatic, everything is slightly blurred and I can only read a very small area at a time with the help of a magnifying glass.”
She is researching low vision aids just now and will hopefully find something which will be helpful.
Wishing everyone the best day possible.
