Today is James Bond day. Although I am not a fan I did like it when I was a little girl. There is currently a lot of speculation about who will replace Daniel Craig. Some of the names in the frame, Callum Turner, Tom Holland, JackLowden,Jack Barton, to name a few are just not doing it for me. Stars of today seem to be very ordinary looking. I liked Sean Connery, Roger Moore and Pierce Brosnan who in my opinion who are all devastaingly handsome. What are your thoughts?

hollysteers echo your sentiments regarding James Norton, sadly I think he's out of the running he's deemed himself too oldsad Yes! defintitely a big no to Benedict Cumberbatch

Callum Turner and Jack Lowden have emerged as the leading frontrunners, so it's reported. But, probably a Red Herring. I think either perfect.

Don;'t forget Timothy Dalton as Bond, he made Bond a darker figure than Roger Moore's Bond and he was younger. His first outing as Bond, The Living Daylights, was one of the best I've seen.

I thought a wooden puppet could have done a better job.

Benedict Cumberbatch? Think he would fit…Daniel Craig always reminded me of Putin, so no..

😂 I can see a certain similarity

the slightly sleazy Bond who only had to look at a girl and she’d melt

I think we tend to forget how long ago the Bond books were written, and how old some of the films are.

The first book, Casino Royale, was published in 1953.

The first film, Doctor No, in 1962

Life and times viewed very differently now, even for our heroes.

That’s why Sean Connery fitted the role so well.

Handsome, sardonic, witty, but a cruel and ruthless streak, which was reflected in his attitude to the ‘job’, and also (sadly sometimes) to women.

Sean Connery was best Bond. Henry Cavill is rather tasty 😋

Idris Elba ,Tom Hiddleston

Idris Elba removed himself some time ago as he considers himself too old. Shame, he would have made a great Bond.

Sorry if this is not PC, but if we are to be close to the post-war spy, it is likely to be an Aryan looking but rather non-descript (blend in type). Suggestions of a black man who would stand out like a sore thumb and not have the access that might be required of a spy seem a little silly.

A woman would work; we are learning more about female spies, although it would have to be a fit, strong and athletic one.

Bond was not a good fit for Roger Moore, as The Saint he was excellent.

But possibly most like the agents recruited for the cold war roles, who were apparently well bred Oxbridge/Eton types, portrayed well by Roger Moore

Daniel Craig was a very good Bond. Attractive and mesmerising, but not good looking in a classical way. Very tough in character of course - Bond needs that as a quality. Also sophistication, confidence and a not-suffering-fools-gladly mentality (although this comes through in the acting). Sean Connery and Roger Moore were probably my favourites though. As I mentioned before, Aidan Turner would be great. Also Benedict Cumberbach, Jean Paul Rege (have I got the right name there?) or James Norton or Tom Hardy. I can’t quite imagine Tom Holland as Bond - sorry Tom.

I think the best Bond FILMS so far have been the ones starring Daniel Craig. He moved away from the slightly sleazy Bond who only had to look at a girl and she'd melt. He was a more mature version of Bond but not (for me) a heart-throb.
I had to stop typing for a minute to a) question the term heart-throb. Haven't heard it used in ages, and b) to fall about laughing as instead of heart-throb, auto-fill used 'heart burn'. Probably realised I was a woman in my 70s!! grin

I haven't typed the word ' Phwoar!' in a long, long time but it applies to Theo James. If there was a man created for the term eye-candy, he'd be it. He is gorgeous. He would make a great James Bond.

We don't use the term 'having a fit of the vapours' any more either, do we? I think I'm having one just thinking about him. Or it might be heart-burn...

I think Daniel Craig has been the best Bond so far, when he was announced as the new bond I was so disappointed, 10 minutes into his first movie I was converted!

|I too think Daniel Craig was the best Bond ever and I think the role died with him when he was killed at the end of "No Time to Die" so there can be no follow ups

TerriBull Tue 06-Oct-26 17:15:45

Another James Norton fan here, but he said in one interview he thinks he's now too old. Also Rege Jean Page, smooth, dark and handsome. Where's he gone? seems to have disappeared. Theo James would also fit the bill.

No! to Tom Holland, he was a local boy where I used to live, his father, Dominic Holland, a stand up comic, sometimes in a coffee shop I went to. I also think he, Tom and his wife Zendaya come across as a nice down to earth couple when they're away from the red carpet.Nevertheless, I don't think he's right for James Bond or Callum Turner, or Jack Lowden.

I don't really care that much, personally I always thought Daniel Craig looked really miserable in the role, barely cracked a smile. Personally I quite liked Pierce Brosnan.

Me too.
I crawled out of the cinema utterley stunned by Mr Craig and his sex appeal. Also it was a first class action/spy movie.
James Norton or Jack Lowden are the choices for the new one for me.
Possibly Norton as he looks as if he could be more lethal. Or am I confusing him with his character of Happy Valley's Tommy Lee Royce ?
Probably end up being someone I've never heard of. That's a long list these days.

WithNobsOnIt Tue 06-Oct-26 17:03:20

Sean Connery will never be replaced. No one can hold a candle to him.

Roger Moore. Great as the Saint but too soft looking for Bond

Daniel Craig, good actor but comes across as being a bit of a yob.

So where does that leavers us?

Modern times. So maybe a Transgender Bond? Or one created by AI?

TiggyW Tue 06-Oct-26 16:49:50

There’ll never be another Sean. He was the original and the best.
The only current actor I can think of is Aidan Turner - he’s got the dark, handsome looks for the part. Whoever cast Daniel Craig must have needed glasses! 🙄 He looks more like a gangster! 🤣

Nanny27 Tue 06-Oct-26 15:21:38

Interestingly I read that the film makers look for a relatively unknown to play Bond. They think the viewer will believe in him more if they haven't known him in other roles.
Makes sense.

A perfect ‘filt’?
Why don’t I read things that I post? A perfect FIT!

Secondwind Tue 06-Oct-26 15:17:05

I think Theo James from Netflix’s ‘The Gentleman’ is a perfect filt!
