Good Morning Monday 14th September 2026

Good morning Mick and everyone from a rather grey but dry Carlisle.
Yesterday was a beautiful warm and sunny day. I went out for an early walk in the park which was deserted. It was chilly enough for a light jacket but good for exercising in. Then it was back to potter at little jobs and read the papers until morning coffee time. After which it was time to get out and put together the second raised bed. A simple but painful job as it involved a lot of kneeling and bending and my back wasn't happy! It is now resting in the border but needs settling in and filling of course. Cue a visit to the garden centre this week. I won't need it until the spring so can take time over the filling, it won't all be with expensive compost and top soil.

Today is bed changing, laundry and vacuuming day, I like to get the routine housework out of the way early in the week.
I'll read and puzzle in the afternoon.

Marzipan...how horrible! It sounds excruciating but I hope it's somewhat improved painwise today.

grandMattie, an infuriating Sunday evening for you...hope that's sorted today.

Good morning from a sunny Stockport.
Yesterday turned warm I think it was 23 degrees but I want well and spent most of it in bed.
I have developed a niggly cough which is enough to keep me wake and also to vomit.

Today I have had to be up early again to let in a plumber who is coming to replace the whole shower in the downstairs bathroom.
The people who have done the work I the garden are also coming to finish off, the Indian stone needs sealing and a step putting in to the decking.
I shall get a quote for replacing one side of fencing but that that might have to wait as I don’t know whose fence it is and my neighbour, pleasant enough mostly, may not be agreeable.

I hope your feet are not too painful Marzipan and heal well, Grandmattie a problem many of us have had and it takes time and patience to sort out the culprit socket.

I must get ahead now ready for the plumber and fill my two kettles and jugs ready for the water going off.
I wish a decent day for you all.

I defrosted the kitchen freezer yesterday. It needed doing as the bottom drawer was sticking to a thick piece of ice.
We didn’t see anyone which is unusual for a Sunday but they were all busy with one thing or another.

Today I’m hopping on the train at 10 , just two stops, to meet my old’ friend for coffee and tea cake and lots of chat.
I’ve told the Chimers I won’t be there today which is a shame, but I can’t fit everything in and seeing my very special friend is more important.

I must phone the surgery as we keep having missed calls but I can’t get back to them.,
It’s for the nurse to come and see Dh with results of his blood test.

After some housework I shall be back in my craft room carrying on with the big clear up. It’s quite embarrassing how much I have that I had forgotten about!
I must have a think about anything needed for our holiday next week.
Youngest DGS will be here for a couple of hours late afternoon.

Good Morning from the central south coast where we have a leaden sky and no sign of any brightness. It feel humid too.

I really hope your scalded feet are not too painful Marzipan. What a horrible accident and how kind the paramedics were. Do try not to do too much today after such a shock as well as coping with the pain.

We are all so dependent on our electrics working efficiently that it can be chaotic when they have a hiccup. Hopefully you will get it sorted today GM and can think about what to do about the torn lino, getting your wet laundry sorted and your shopping done! A busy day ahead for you it seems - again!

DDs can be very bossy can't they? Ours has been pressuring me to get a fall alarm after my unpleasant trip and fall into the rose bed a couple of months ago. I know she is concerned but I am still compos mentis and very independent (and DH is even more so!) so it starts to feel a bit like bullying. DH and I are having discussions and will decide for ourselves what to do.

GM, our washing machine did a similar thing. I twigged right away, for it was the only appliance, which was on.
Water had been leaking under it. Water and electrics don't mix.⚡😞
I had been thinking of buying a new one, as the machine was being very temperamental. That clinched it. I wasn't taking any chances.
I wish I had done it earlier. The new one is energy efficient and so quiet.

GMB, you must be exhausted. It would have been upsetting for you.

Although, I still have the dreadful cough (think of a dog, with an extremely loud bark), it is so attention seeking 😉,
I decided to go to Mass. Wrong move!
I felt unwell and had to come home. You cannot slip out quietly, in church full of people.
It looks like this being able to do little, is becoming my new normal.😪

We have four masses every weekend and the church is always full, due to the two new housing developments in the town.
So many new houses, that we have a new train station being opened this month.
However, the dynamics of our congregation have changed. Everyone has always been friendly and welcoming, but some of the new, younger families are not particularly friendly and have formed a closed group.
They seem to be following a method of gentle parenting, ignoring their disruptive children.
It is upsetting for some of the older parishioners.
Recently, one said to me; I feel this is not my parish any more. 😔
Some don't even acknowledge a Good morning., but are very vocal, when it comes to expressing their complaints.
A few of the older parishioners are finding this unsettling.

For days, I have been looking for an Sainsbury's receipt, I need to return something. I have every receipt for the last month, but that one is nowhere to be found. Grr.
I think it can be done using my Nectar card. I hope so!

Good morning everyone from south Manchester where it’s gloriously sunny already and Alexa tells me it’s going to reach 23°C today. Lovely.

I’m meeting three of the book clubbers at noon for lunch in the square (retired like me so it’s a bit of a breakaway group & we have our own WApp). We arranged it weeks ago and when we do this we set a date for our next lunch.

Talking food, I’ve just weighed myself and I’ve gained a stone in the past six months (picking up all these menus doesn’t help) so I’m going to have to get a grip now as I don’t want to be even bigger by the end of the year.

I’m popping into my larder later for my stepfather and taking advantage of the good weather will go over to see him by bus this afternoon. He is finally over his shingles. It certainly knocked the stuffing out of him. He said yesterday “I’ve missed you I’m glad you’re back”. He has no siblings now, no children of his own and all of his friends bar one has died. His extended family live in Wester Ross. Luckily he has kind and friendly neighbours which reassures me greatly when I’m away. They pop in a few times a week with his groceries and gossip (which he loves!).

New washing machine ordered to be delivered tomorrow pm. DD suggested that the machine was at fault as it spun happily but tripped the fuse with anything else. I decided that getting an electrician, then a washing machine man and any repairs would cost as much or more than a new machine. I have no idea how old it is as it came with the flat.
Lino - I’ll think about it.
In my case, it doesn’t seem that things come in 3s but this time it’s in 4s. Washing machine, microwave, kitchen floor and now cracked ceramic hob needing replacing.

Not much happening today. My gardener is having a couple of weeks off but I have a man coming to look at the robot mower. It is 9 years old and has been wonderful but maybe it is time for a new one.

These new flat screens are very lightweight, I think the box will weigh a fair bit and be an awkward size but I am leaving it in the box for screen protection while I get it up the stairs. I am still strong enough

How kind you all are. I've realised I have no shoes that fit over the bandages now so I can't go out anyway. Probably just as well!

grandMattie what a to-do! My vinyl flooring was ripped when the washing machine was pulled out.

Wonderful Cleaner and Lovely Gardener both due today so will be kept busy “supervising” and suggesting. The garden looks tired and there is a lot of spent plants to be removed or tidied up but considering the hot summer and the fact that I only watered the pots we have done quite well.

I have started feeding the birds again - such a joy - despite reports of a rat. The bird feeder post has been greased with Vaseline as a deterrent so we will see.

Off grocery shopping shortly , I stocked up a fortnight ago but now that neighbours are back , normal service is resumed , even though I’ve enough in the freezer to withstand a months siege !
