I listened to the Andi Peters debacle and yes Miriam was out of line which she later realised and apologised for. And Andi Peters has every right to feel badly about it. But I very much doubt there was an underlying prejudice there, Miriam’s lack of a filter is well known.
Though am by no means seeking to dismiss Peter’s feelings on the matter.

Miriam was wrong and it was hurtful and embarrassing for Andi Peters.

She did apologise. That acknowledged she was wrong, but it doesn’t in any way excuse her comments.

However, it did not take away from my husbands, our two friends, nor my enjoyment of her show.

The theatre was packed. At two points, one single person and another couple walked out.

There was their right and if they felt in any way insulted, upset or angry at her comments, this was the right thing for them to do.

I do hope they left their “free” book behind

Ed Byrne is from Swords.
My husband's family are from Skerries.
Most live there
My husband states that he is from Skerries and that it is near Dublin and in the East of Ireland.
If asked if he is from the north or south of Ireland, he says he's from the East, just to make people aware.

I am surprised to hear that Miriam Margoyles was funny and entertaining.
In The Real Marigold Hotel, where celebs were being themselves, not acting, she was selfish and unpleasant. Since then, when I have seen her, it has only reinforced my negative view of her.
Her recent racism towards Andi Peters was unacceptable.

I’m married to an Irishman. He comes from Rush, just outside Dublin.

He and his family always state that they are from Southern Ireland.

Ooops Where is Eastern Ireland? I was simply distinguishing Eire from Northern Ireland, so perhaps we are both correct?

She may not have meant any harm but her 'assumption' and use of a racist term would receive absolute condemnation for most others, not the indulgent 'well that's Miriam' nods and smiles. Personally, I think stressed or not, she revealed an underlying attitude.

🤣🤣🤣🤣 Yes, she was very clear that she’s has dual nationality and loves both countries and lived between them for many many years. She became an Australian citizen in 2013, I believe, on Australia Day.

Her travel documentaries show her ability to relate to people, without judgement.
Lucky you Cossy to see her, as I believe she has mitral stenosis a very painful narrowing of the spine.

She has indeed, she touched on this and was clearly in pain and limiting mobility.

It was a “signed” performance, and she had such fun with a very “game” British “signer”, especially with “rude” words, it was really so amusing, the audience and herself, the signer and Ed were literally in stitches!!

I saw the Good Morning Britain interview, she apologised to Andi Peters live on air.

Yes, she touched on that, she said she meant no offence and had wrongly assumed (for whatever reason) he was mixed race (not that it matters) and that she was so sorry she’d caused him any hurt and it was not her intention.

She also stated, very clearly, that she been “warned”not to say or do anything, in any way, that could have been seen as “contentious” and it had stressed her slightly and she opened her mouth and well and truly put her foot in it.

I like her attitude to the actions of the present government of Israel, especially as she is herself Jewish and very much alert to antisemitism. I do wish she wouldn't swear so much!!

Miriam is very robust and not always what we might call ‘politically correct’ when expressing herself sometimes but I also have heard her speak compassionately and with genuine concern about certain matters, certainly her speech about what the Israeli government were doing to Gaza, coming from a woman of Jewish persuasion, was much needed.
I do like her but understand that she has a bit of a Marmite personality. And am sure she realises this too.

I thoroughly enjoyed her tours of Australia and USA.

I was close to tears when she visited the lady who looked after so many babies and abandoned children in USA.

She can be rude but so what…

What a delightful couple of hours, I like her, she says it as it is, no pussyfooting around, but can do so with an undertone of concern and kindness.
