It is 10.30pm and I am going to add to this day, and hope to get back into something like normal tomorrow. Firstly sorry I mixed up the date of the Aberfan disaster, and that it has taken me until now to be compos mentis and catch up with yesterday.
So I got up on saturday to find my leg was again worse, swollen , tight and painful. I had planned to go out with a friend, but looking at it I decided that if I did nothing , it might be much worse by monday, but was somewhat concerned that after two lots of antibiotics I was sort of back to the beginning. I rang up to find out what they thought I should do and was holding on for a long time, whilst I was trying to get washed and dressed in some wide legged trousers, so that if I needed to show them , they would be easy to pull up or down. After a lot of speaking to people and waiting for a doctor to call me, once I had explained the situation, the doctor said that he was not happy to just give me more antibiotics and that I was to go for 11am to the local hospital where the out of hours doctor could see ,me.
I rang my friend and explained and said that as soon as I had the medication or whatever I would be up to get her, and went down to the hospital. I arrived, put my blue badge in the windscreen and hobbled into the entrance. Some men were just setting up red fencing inside the entrance, and one man said that I would "have to go round by the other entrance" to which I firmly replied, that as he could see, I was having difficulty walking and my back was very bad, that as he had only just placed the red fencing across and nothing had been actually started, that I needed him to just move it from my way and allow me to get to my urgent appointment. This he did, but with a bad grace!
So hobbled into the area I needed to wait in, and struggled to find a seat with arms on it that I could use to get up. Anyway after some time the doctor came and questioned me, looked at the leg and did various pressings and blood pressures etc etc. He said that he was not sure that it was just cellulitis , that the leg was hot and firm etc etc, and rather worryingly went on to say he was concerned about possible deep vein thrombosis and a couple of other things.
So the next port of call was to go up to an emergency ward, where I had bloods taken and various other things, and then it was waiting , and waiting, and waiting. They had to do the tests and wait for results, then send them to this ward and then they would ring the dr and he would come to see me.
Well it got to about 1pm and I wasnt feeling very good at all, but then thought well of course I had only had cereal at about 6.30am and needed something to eat.
The staff were very nice and got me a ham sandwich, which helped a bit and had some water but I was still sat there and it got to about 1.30pm and the sister said she had received the results and asked the dr to come. But he was the only doctor on duty being saturday, and there were 2 emergency ambulances came in, one from a road accident , and it was about 3.30pm when he got to see me. He said he was pleased that they had ruled out the most serious things, and I could go home , not take any further antibiotics, and see if it improved , but with the proviso that if it was worse I was to go back straight to the hospital, but now they already had all the details etc. Checking through my previous notes, I confirmed previous illness etc but then found that they had put in the ovarian cancer I had had, yet not put the bladder cancer in at all!! So when this hassle is over I intend to get my notes to check myself. It does seem somewhat crazy to have not put in the cancer or the treatment either!
Well after all this when I finally escaped I went for my friend and we went off into the countryside, which allowed me to begin to calm down and have a rest and was happy to go across to east yorkshire and enjoy a time away from hospitals, messy and disorganised flats and jobs not done.
When I got home, very tired but not able to sleep for ages, and too much going round in my head. Absolutely full of aches and pains and this morning took a long time to even be able to get into the shower. I have been frustrated and up tight about how little I could do and the general mess etc. Struggling to do any baking etc, and so I decided that for once I would go and have sunday lunch at a local pub. It is really good there, a small place, so that it is like going to a friends or doing it yourself. The food is good, fresh vegetables and good gravy. so I rang to book it and was down there for 12 o clock. Absolutely the right idea. I didnt have to stand up cooking or washing up , but very quickly demolished the dinner and then came home, intending to do quite a lot of emains and come on here. Ha! I made a coffee and just sat down to let it percolate and looked at the paper and of course then feel asleep .
So , of course, I woke up , very stiff, leg hurting and too shattered to do much. Well hoping that I shall feel a bit more lively tomorrow, everything is clean including me, which is the main thing, but tomorrow I must try to get things organised, sort out the stuff in the car, get fuel , and look at the wretched appointments that I need to go to, but all depending on what my leg looks like in the morning. A massive pile of ironing needs to be attacked, but it all depends on how I am when I wake up, as if things are not better I shall have to do a repeat trip to the hospital!!
I want to catch up with things tomorrow, but need to see what e mails I have, check on appointment times on the calendar and make sure that I dont miss things. Not heard anything so far from the wretched Bailiffs about the car, another hassle to sort out.!! Well I need to get off to bed and hope for a better night and be in touch tomorrow.
Good night al
