Devastating Marzipan how awful for the family.

Good morning from a damp, overcast Durham. I feel overheated - a bit odd.
I’m meeting a friend for coffee this morning at a local garden centre. We enjoy your weekly catchups and I’ll miss her when she’s away cat sitting for her daughter next week.
I’m hoping that Little Dog will go home tonight, as he’ll be back here next week for quite a long stay with DD2 and family away.
Later, I must see if I can find a decent car valet service. A couple of cars I had my eye on have been sold, so if I’m going to change mine, I need it properly cleaned.

Roses you have been told in no uncertain terms - sit down woman and do nothing, despite your frustration!

Best wishes to all. X

Good morning everyone from a bright and sunny but much cooler Northampton day. Not sure whether we had rain overnight or not.

Really enjoyed my walk yesterday in more comfortable weather - I was greeted like a long-lost friend returning, as its now several weeks since I joined them! Managed nearly 8000 steps over the hour.

Today I shall be joining my dance groups as we meet for our annual summer coffee morning in the parkland of what whas a medieval convent/abbey - also where the funeral cortege of Eleanor wife of Edward 1 rested on its way to London. Hoping it will be nice enough to sit outside. A bit of a trek for me as I have to get two buses, one into town and then another to the abbey.

No plans for the rest of the day except put the bins out when I get home!

Wishing all a pleasant day.

dragonfly46 Wed 19-Aug-26 08:26:41

Good morning from a damp Leicestershire.
I am hoping for more rain today.

Today I am meeting kitty and three other friends which is exciting.
DH will have to deal with the Ocado delivery.

Grandmabatty you have the most delightful DGSs.
So sorry to hear your news Marzipan how incredible sad.

Wishing everyone the best day possible.

Good morning all from a showery Glasgow, where it is 11°C

R&L, you are only prolonging your recover Those of us, who have experienced major surgery, know that you must do absolutely nothing for six weeks.
Please do as you are told.

Life continues to be very problematic here and into the bargain, I have a small stress fracture in my foot. Over the years, I have had a fair number of fractures in my left foot and, as a result nowhave a condition, where the bones don't heal. It has caused neuropathy in my toes.
This is the first one, I have experienced one in my right foot. 😔
I just have to get on with it, DH needs me and we still haven't heard from the cardiologist.
I feel so helpless.

I wish you all a pleasant day, have a great time with your family, FGT,

EkwaNimitee Wed 19-Aug-26 08:17:58

Good morning Mick and everyone from showery Carlisle.
Those cyclists will be met with some proper Cumbrian weather today Mick. Better than cycling in the boiling heat though.

I did a bit of bathroom and kitchen cleaning yesterday then couldn't resist getting out in the garden. I sawed down one of my Minarette crabapple trees, I just don't need all the crabs I get.
It's a functional looking tree rather than looking ornamental and I'm developing other plans for that fruit and veg border.
In the afternoon, just admin and sorting out more paperwork though little went.

Today, I've already been for my early walk which will now be followed by a bit more cleaning followed by a day at the computer I think, plenty of admin and things to organise.
The window cleaner plans to come but I suspect he'll pass if the rain gets steady.

R&L you have been well told off advised this morning!
I know it's frustrating but.....

Have a good day everyone and happy travels if you're off.

Ladyleftfieldlover Wed 19-Aug-26 08:12:36

R&L! You are supposed to be resting! Can’t your OH do those things you want doing?

brook2704 Wed 19-Aug-26 08:00:02

So sorry to hear that such news Marzipan thoughts with the family and all who knew her 💐

Hope you have a safe journey and enjoy your holiday FGT. Gelisa I have been having a case of the gremlins gobbling up my posts as well. Very annoying. I am hoping to organise a trip over to visit my son in the Fylde area soon , and wondered when I get something arranged if you might like to meet up for coffee somewhere? I would love to meet up with some of the GNs, as it is good to be able to put a face to so many people that you feel you have got to know, yet wouldnt recognise them if they walked past you in the street!

When I was doing missionary work, living in Lancashire with my white roses in the garden!, I used to enjoy going up to Morecambe and treating myself to coffee in the Midland hotel, It cost very little more than other cafes and allowed me to pretend it was the 1920's and I would see the wonderful Gill things and look around to see if Poroit was sat in the next window! Send me a message if you would like to meet up

Time to get the coffee and set off on my errands. Will put my lightweight mac in the bag, dont think I will need it , but who knows maybe a welcome shower for the garden. Lovely for all of us who have at last seen the welcome rain, to at least start helping the gardens. My neighbours where I used to live ,used to think I was quite mad, as after a long spell of dry weather, when the rain finally started , would see me with a watering can out there watering the borders. Method in my madness, if the ground is bone dry, the rain can run off so just dampening the soil encouraged the water to go down into the soil. Gardening friends understood my actions , but I am sure there will still be a few that remember me as that mad woman who waited for the rain to go out watering the garden! Ah wonderful, just playing Bach on the radio, lovely. Have a good day everyone

Blossoming Wed 19-Aug-26 07:56:25

Good morning everyone from sunny warm Lancashire. Off to the eye clinic this morning for my jabs.

Have a good day 🌹

Usedtobeblonde Wed 19-Aug-26 07:54:23

R&L we are going to get very cross with you.

brook2704 Wed 19-Aug-26 07:51:10

Good morning everyone from Inverness where it’s dry with light grey clouds, it still feels warm too
Please rest up Roses I’m sure the cleaner understands
I’ve a busy day ahead with the gym, dancing and a dentist appointment this afternoon. I’m having both my dentist check up and hygienist appointment this afternoon, both different people but at the same place so it’ll be out of one chair and into another.
Hoping your DD is soon over her Covid Jax
Hoping everyone has the best day they can, take care all 💐

Usedtobeblonde Wed 19-Aug-26 07:48:12

Good morning from Stockport.
It is damp and cooler, suits me better but the sun has been good for the holiday season.

My friend picked me up yesterday and we went to a local garden centre and had a sandwich and for me ,a pot of tea.
Looking round I spotted a pair of slider type sandals, I wear them in the house in summer and they seemed ok at £18 , when I got to the till, they were half price, so at £9 a real bargain I was delighted.
Home again I fell asleep on the sofa for quite a time, I am very tired these days.

I got a physio appointment but it is in two weeks time, meanwhile my pain isn’t getting any better.

Visiting my neighbour this afternoon, she isn’t at all well, neither sounds or looks it.
Her family aren’t at all attentive.

Make the most of your day everyone and safe landings to the travellers.

Redcar Wed 19-Aug-26 07:43:21

Good morning everyone from mid Essex. It’s damp out, the earth looks a slightly darker colour, so we obviously had some light rain in the night. Showers are forecast for today, but the weather maps don’t show many here.
I went for my usual walk yesterday and met a dog walking friend which was nice. I saw my dementia friend in the afternoon, she seems to have lost even more weight.
I’m going to the farm shop this morning, hopefully they have Victoria plums, which are a favourite, and runner beans.

fgt safe travels to Malaga and have a lovely time with your family.

rosesandlilac please don’t do too much tidying, I’m sure your cleaner can do that while she’s cleaning.

kitty enjoy your lunch with your gransnetter friends!

Have as good a day as is possible everyone.

Marzipan22 Wed 19-Aug-26 07:41:42

Good morning from Cornwall where there's some lovely refreshing rain. My granddaughter is coming for the day so I must get my arty stuff ready for her. Went to a new charity shop in a different town yesterday and found a pair of men's denim jeans with a 56" waist (yes, that's not a typo!) for £2. An unusually wide scope of denim to play with so I must decide what to make from them.

I've had some very sad news. A friend's daughter has killed herself. The funeral is on Friday and I'm dreading it.

Re Gransnet and posting I find that the website regularly freezes, which no other site does.

RosesandLilac please sit down!! wink

Jaxjacky Wed 19-Aug-26 07:38:22

Morning from a wet S Hants, we have rain after 60 odd days without! It smells wonderful, we need lots more.
Do not tidy up R&L that’s not resting, the cleaner will be fine.
My daughter returned from Turkey with a cold, as she was tasked with visiting her friend’s elderly Grandma she tested, Covid positive. Grandma visiting allocated elsewhere.
Podiatrist later today.

Good morning from a sunny and cool feeling Suffolk where we had some light rain overnight. No puddles but some parts of the grass are quite green and the leaves which had fallen look less crispy.

I’m off to Ipswich soon for my monthly meeting which today is in person rather than on Teams. This is a rare get together and we always enjoy a sociable lunch time.

I’m going by train so I’ll catch up with your news thanks to the free WiFi!

Hope those on the move have uneventful journeys and all enjoy the cooler weather and have a good day.

Grandmabatty Wed 19-Aug-26 07:30:53

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 13° and damp. Fgt safe journey to Málaga. Gelisa the disappearing posts have been happening on gransnet to me too. Susan that's a nuisance about your car.
Yesterday dgs2 had a better stab at going into school. Initially he wouldn't leave the car but when he did, he walked happily into the school ground and played with his friend. When the bell rang, dgs1 whirled up and held his hand and took him to his classroom. I had a lazy day thereafter until pick up time. Both boys had good days. They played at my house for a couple of hours then I took them home.
Today I will go to the school library for an hour, then home to sort the kitchen. It's still in a state of chaos from yesterday. Apart from that, nothing is planned. I was awake for a couple of hours in the night with painful feet, so I might have a nap. Have a good day all.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 19-Aug-26 07:25:15

Good morning from S E Essex, where it is cloudy, but brightening.

Off to the gym this morning, then I will have the GS’s whilst DD is in there.

Safe travels *FGT28 we will miss you, enjoy your happy place.

Greyduster Wed 19-Aug-26 07:24:33

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from South Yorkshire where the sky is clearing after overnight rain. Not sure how much but it’s very welcome. I cut a lot of plants back last evening and I’m not sure whether any of them will come back next year.

DD came over yesterday, having dropped SiL off at a nearby hospital for his minor surgery. I had made lunch which she was not expecting but was grateful for. He was finished by mid afternoon and she went off to pick him up and take him home as he won’t be able to drive for a week or so.

Today I have writers group - our librarian led session, which is always interesting. I wish it was better attended for all the work she puts in - numbers seems to be dwindling.

Have the best day you can, folks.

Gagagran Wed 19-Aug-26 07:22:59

Good Morning everyone from a lovely wet central south coast! We had rain in the night at last and are promised light rain all day today. Relief!

Safe travels FGT and have a lovely time in your happy place with your family. Intrigued to know what your cunning plan entails!

DH is out on his bike club ride today - they won't mind the rain - if it turns up - after all the heat it will be good to freshen everything up.

We both had our appointments at the surgery yesterday and my asthma nurse persuaded me to switch my long term use of two inhalers (Ventolin being the secondary one) to one which contains both medicines but has been found to be more efficient. She was very good at explaining it and even wrote it all out for me to read and keep. She will see me again in a few weeks to make sure I am happy with the new set up. I was impressed by her kindness and clear explanations.

DH was in and out for his blood test and after a quick visit to the library for me, we were soon back home for coffee.

This evening, my old choir are having a short memorial for the former chairman whose second year anniversary is today. At his request we sang his favourite song in our repertoire at his funeral. This evening his old friend and fellow bass will speak briefly about him and all he did for the choir, and we shall sing "You raise me up" - his favourite song. I, along with a few other former members, are joining them for that and then we shall leave the choir to carry on with their normal rehearsal.

Best wishes to all with struggles or worries of any kind and hope that the day is kind to us all.

luluaugust Wed 19-Aug-26 07:16:11

Good morning from a wet W Kent.
Off to U3A art group this morning where I shall be tackling perspective again. Otherwise a quiet afternoon, the family are either packing or away.
I have had messages disappearing this week, never had it before
Best wishes

Good morning from Sheffield
I completed my raffle duties last night adequately so that’s a relief. I will be handing back the books and the float to my sister-in-law for next month.
I am working today hope my back rallies a little.
It’s a nice damp morning here in Sheffield and a bit cooler
Take care everyone.flowers

Gelisa Wed 19-Aug-26 07:05:41

Good morning from a cool cloudy Morecambe Bay. As I was typing my post disappeared before my eyes. This is the third time it’s happened this week -there must be a glitch somewhere in the system. This only seems to happen on Gransnet.
I was having a moan about my painful itchy back perhaps the gods thought I should shut up about it considering some of the more serious problems others on here have.
Apart from taking CDog for his walks, today is a day for giving the house a good clean and tidy and maybe I’ll venture into the garden. It looks ever so sad despite having had quite a bit of rain over the weekend.
R&L will you please just put your feet up and give your body some healing rest. The house can wait honestly!
I received some sad news recently that the daughter of an ex colleague and friend from my teaching days had recently died, she was younger than my three. It really shook me up, she was a lovely girl.
Yesterday I met up with a friend from when I lived in Carlisle. Travelling home down the motorway there were several police bikes heading north. I wondered where they were heading. It must have been in preparation for the women’s Tour of Britain in Cockermouth. Thanks for that Mick.
Take care everyone 🌸

Ladyleftfieldlover Wed 19-Aug-26 07:01:52

Morning all from West Oxfordshire. It’s definitely rained overnight. There are small puddles.

It is the monthly U3A lunch today as organised by OH. I won’t be going as it is the WI summer tea. We have been told to dress up and there will be a prize for the best dressed member!

Have a good day everyone and bon voyage 🛫 FGT.
