Why do some news items pass us by occasionally.

Looking at the front pages of today's newspapers. JA's death has passed them by as well

You would think that those who had effected the downfall and death of a deeply flawed and vulnerable individual, would pay him proper tribute, or are they just too ashamed.

I often think the space and importance given to items of true news value is governed by a newspapers own interests, defining that very widely, and when an item passes us by, it is because it hasn't received balanced coverage.

I had noticed the news item about Jason Arday earlier in the week but some news items I don't notice.
I think it has to catch my eye and interest before I will spend time on it

The thread shout Jason Arday last night was news to me. Literally. Like a few others, I don't think I had ever heard of him.

I'm not sure why some news items happen to pass us by. Of course, it can be that we have other, more pressing things on our minds, and we are in a state of personal stress about events going on in our own lives. Or we simply don't have time that day as we're too busy elsewhere.

However, I think it's sometimes more than that. I believe our brains might naturally tune out an endless stream of unpleasant information to protect our own mental health. Maybe it's better to not know too much about world events in order to stay calm?

But then, of course, I've needed to spend a few hours catching up on the sorry story above, only mentioned here as an example, to wonder why quite frequently people say, I've never heard of ...... or that item did not come on my radar.
