Good morning all .
I’ll go shopping with DIL at 9, back by 10.30 and that’s it!.
Just relax and keep out of the heat. 🙏.

DS2 is 51 today. We’ve just had a message saying they’ve arrived in LA safely after an 11 hour flight. I hope his sciatica is easing.,🙏.

Yesterday I hopped on a bus into town. The bus broke down and I had to wait another 20 minutes in the heat. I could have walked but it’s all uphill .🥵. Met Dd and DGD at the Wimpy.
Wandered around town and went into the Works for more craft when all the lights went out. It’s funny that everyone just carried on shopping in the gloom until we were thrown out.

We walked back through The Mount and back here. Shattered and dripping.
As soon as we walked through the door, Dh asked for a drink. He’s quite capable of getting one himself. Dd kindly got him one whilst I had a cool shower and changed clothes.

We thought the eclipse was a non-event too.
Dh sat in the garden, I popped in and out. The house did darken slightly but outside was bright and sunny. Nothing!

Glad you’re progressing well RandL. Take it easy.
We have no GC waiting results this year, so we can all relax.
Good luck to all who have worked hard and deserve their success.

Keep cool today as best you can. Hopefully the heat will ease next week. We’ve all had enough!

🥀

Good Morning from a bright, breezy, sunny Durham.
I was reading in the garden last night and barely noticed the eclipse. The sky was cloudy and the birds ignored it all.
Today is yet another dental appointment and I suspect the final bill - they’ve been taking interim payments every time I go. It means I’ll probably miss the gardeners again - money for old rope in this weather, and the only sign they’ve been is a few dead leaves and a handful of dead grass in the bin.
I hope you get somewhere with today’s GP MD. Surely one of them has to take action.
I’m sure you’ll heed all the advice Roses you’re doing so well.

Best wishes to all. X

Good morning Michael and all GN's from a sunny North Yorkshire. There is a very slight breeze, and so curtains closed but windows open, and have been checking that the temperature is cooler outside than in, but about time to shut the windows and keep the cool.

It was whist drive night yesterday, and didnt look likely that the eclipse would be much good from here, so went off there. The man running it announced that we would start playing and then have a stop in time for those who wished to go out and view the eclipse, but as expected it was very cloudy and nothing worth looking at, so was glad I had gone, having missed the last couple of weeks. There will no doubt be plenty of pictures to see online or on tv today.

Yesterday it was market day, and so I got myself ready and off on the yellow peril. I didnt need much, but wanted to go and meet the bank person in this new hub idea. It was really a check out to see how it worked, and find out bits of information for the future. So it was at Upfront and there was a queue, so you had a ticket with a number on it and the man came out and called the number and you went in. Worked fine, as while you were waiting you could check up notices, and catch up on news and so forth. I did find out some very helpful news, as there were 3 other people on disability scooters . Up until now ,you could only leave your car with the blue badge in the car park for 3 hours maximum. So there was no way you could go on the bus from the other end of town, for a day, and leave your car, and now the rules have changed and you can put your car, with badge of course , for the day. I later called at the TI to confirm that I have the correct information, and that means I might have a look at a day out trip somewhere and give it a go and see how I get on.

So having checked out the bank hub and the bus service I also had a look to see if there was anything happening round here at the TI and then came home, by which time it was really hotting up and was glad to get into the cool of the flat. That was enough effort for the day and did very little until time to go to the whist drive. So this morning, I need to get the washing on, and do some tidying up of my things, and think what I particularly want the cleaners to do this pm, which includes opening a jar of beetroot, that annoyingly I could not do yesterday! So it will be a quiet day at home. I am still full of aches and pains, and my ribs really hurt especially if I cough, but am improving generally.

Sorry you had a rubbish night RosesandLilac and hope you might manage a snooze later on. Sorry your house purchase didnt work out, Granmaretto, but I always tried to tell myself that it wasnt meant and I would get somewhere better. As your family were not keen at least when you move, and there is anything needed to be done, they wont be able to say "I told you so!" Hope something else turns up soon. A very varied experience of the eclipse from everyone, sounds as though the cornish area did very well.

Windows firmly shut now and must get the washing on. Apart from putting things away, I need to make a list of things I want to get rid of, as a friend has found someone that can remove this big dresser thing, that the charity shops say is too big for them to remove. They are properly licensed, and reuse as much as possible etc, and dispose of things correctly, no dumping stuff. So I need to think of anything else that I can give them, the tv table that was too small for the new tv is something that can definitely go. Well no breeze now and it is already much warmer so I will not be going to the womens group this morning. Too hot. Hope you are all able to find a shady place and manage to keep as cool as possible. Wish you all a good day

Morning from an already very warm S Hants. The eclipse here was quite pronounced, it darkened, even the pigeons were quiet and no cars on the estate. MrJ was outside supervising the bbq for two.
Not much on today, just as well with the heat, awaiting exam results from grandaughter in Turkey.
Go gently R&L even when you feel better, 6 weeks is for a reason.
Have a decent day all, take it easy in this heat.

Good morning from 24C Sunnyside Sandhills northwest coast.
Arthritis in my left hand is very painful. I’m glad it’s not my right as it would interfere with my drawing and painting.

Sister arrives from the south for a few days tomorrow, so I’m getting ready for that and going tonight to a poetry reading in a new arts venue.
Flying DD in the south has a few days on stand by, which means hanging about waiting for a flight. We had a long FaceTime yesterday.
Thoughts to all🌺

Good morning everyone from south Manchester where it’s 23°C and sunny already (lovely) and will reach 34°C later (only lovely if it’s not humid).

I have an enjoyable ‘small pleasures’ day ahead. Off to see my stepfather after breakfast before it gets too hot. He needs cash, stamps and batteries is all. I will go again on Sunday before I fly off to Málaga on Wednesday.

Then this afternoon I have a mani/pedi appointment booked at the salon over the road. Nails need a good snip and I think I’ll have a French. Always elegant.

Will pop in to see my neighbour friend and have a brew (no wine) and see if she’d like to come to mine on Sunday for a pre prandial G&T before going over the road for a curry.

This weather is glorious for strolling in a summer dress, Birkenstocks and sunnies I’m just loving it. 😎

Good morning from Shropshire.A high of 33 forecast for today 🥵

Thank you to everyone who reached out during my absence from the thread.I have been thinking of you all and so pleased to see that RandL is recovering after surgery.I hope the GP visit is helpful this afternoon Marydoll.

A slower pace of life here these days, a situation so many of you are familiar with.I take inspiration from our mountaineers.

Last week in an echo of Ash’s experience earlier in the year, someone drove into my lovely fiesta. We are waiting to see if it is repairable.

Thinking of you all and wishing you all a good day🦩🌻

Good morning from Fairbourne. Yesterday was spent walking in the shade and diving into cool cafés in an attempt to keep Cdog cool.
Today I suspect will be similar they are camper is of no use as that gets really hot. We have all woken up late as I spent quite a bit of time watching the meteor showers during the night. This is my second attempt at posting as my original one disappeared. Why does that happen?
Good to hear from Susan and pleased things are going well forR&L
Take care🌸

Good morning everyone from another hot Northampton day; another day when very little is done.

I did manage to damp dust all the bedrooms upstairs and also did the very fiddly banister with all its tricky spindles. Added a few things to the pile for the charity shop. Did a load of washing late afternoon and left it out overnight which means I need to fetch it in now.
I may take the Shark upstairs and do the bedrooms and staircase. The cats have shed a fair bit of fur.

A disappointing eclipse here yesterday; watched it between the leaves of my tree and noticed no discernible difference in light at its zenith (if that's the right word!).

Wishing all a pleasant day and have the coolest you can!

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Thu 13-Aug-26 09:42:25

You’ve been missed here Susan56 good to hear from you. Sorry about your car and home difficulties. ‘Day by day’ was my mantra for many months during anxious times. Those words helped me. x

GrannyGravy13 Thu 13-Aug-26 09:44:03

dragonfly46 Thu 13-Aug-26 09:46:38

Good to see you Susan.

Good morning from Torbay. Warm and sunny again.

I'm late because I've been awaiting an Asda grocery delivery. It was due between 8.00 and 9.00am but the tracking ETA kept changing. When it eventually arrived, the driver told me he'd had to follow a diversion due to a fatal accident on the main road from Newton Abbot to Torquay. A horrid day for some poor family.

It's good to see you again, Susan56 but I'm sorry to hear about your car. I still miss my Fiesta but settled for a Puma as Fiestas aren't made any more. It's very different but I'm learning to like it! olddudders liked it so much, he's traded in his Clio in France and bought a Puma!!

Regarding the eclipse, here several locals headed to an open headland near our theatre, causing chaos as they parked wherever they could! .Some thought they could park on our (private) car park. Our stage manager suggested to one woman that she could only park there if she had a ticket for the play. She was actually willing to pay £15 for a ticket just to park but the transaction didn't proceed as the Box Office wasn't open at that point!

Another good performance to an appreciative audience. Afterwards, I gave a lift to a friend from church and her neighbour who would normally travel by taxi.

Keep cool, everyone, if you can!

Susan56 Thu 13-Aug-26 10:39:00

Thank you so much for the lovely welcome back🥲
I have taken on that mantra FGT.
I haven’t received your messages Aldom ☹️
Ash our courtesy car is a Puma.DH likes it,it seems much bigger to me😬
