Does anyone have a middle name?

Many of my female relations and contemporaries (I’m in my mid-eighties) have Ann as a middle name. It fits neatly into a longer name. My best friend, though, is called just Anne (with an e), no middle name. That seems a bit blunt. I must ask her if she minds.

i have my grannys name and my dads surname before he was adopted within the family (he was adopted by my gran who was his fathers sister). my son has a middle name and his son also has a middle name.

My middle name is the female equivalent of my late DH's, I was named after my mother's sister.

In my family the eldest daughter is given her mothers first name as a middle name.
So I have my mother's name as my middle name.
Never heard that it was a posh thing to do. Everyone I know has a middle name.

I do and it's not even a common name, nevertheless there was another guy with the same name locally that caused a lot of mixups when banking was done manually. I had to change bank in the end.

I have my Nana’s first name, M, as my middle name. She didn’t use it herself, being known only by her middle name, E.
DH doesn’t have one, but we gave both our girls middle names. DD2 has given her son 2 middle names one of which is our surname. I love this.

I have my granny’s name as my middle name. I also have a confirmation name which I don’t use because my name is long enough without! Everybody in my family has a middle name and a few have two!

I don’t have a middle name, but my father had and he was very far from “posh”. My son has two middle names - those of his father and my father. While my daughter’s first name is a family name, her middle name isn’t.

Everyone I can think of in my family has at least one middle name. Two DGSs have two. Mine is unusual in that is my mother's maiden name; my family name is a very common one, and I think she may have thought I might want to go double-barrelled one day. I never did.

Funny how double-barrelled used to be regarded as posh. Nowadays it usually seems to mean that the parents are unmarried.

I have one. I never use it, though I actually prefer it to my first name. Neither were 'family' names.
We were definitely not posh, though my paternal ancestors were probably considered posh until the Great Depression ruined them.

None of us (3 children) had middle names as my mother loathed her middle name and said she didn't want to inflict one on us.

Fortunately we were all fine with our one and only given names and we all gave our children middle names. Which may or may not be significant

Yes, it is my paternal grandparents name. Like Labradora I also have a confirmation name which I don't use.

My middle name came in handy at school because there was a girl in my class with the same names so my first and middle name were tagged together and it worked.

Yes, we all have them in my family. The patronymic system is still used a lot in Wales, and my son has the family ancestral middle name, as did his dad, and grandfather.

My brothers both have 2 middle names one of which is my French great grandmother's maiden name. It appealed to the snob in my mum. I imagine i was not worthy.

I’ve my great grandmother’s middle name as my middle name, which I passed onto DD1. We used a popular name as a middle name for DD2. Both DGSs have middle names, in fact DGS1 has two.
DH was always known by his middle name, as his Mother disliked the way her family shortened his first name. DH hated that middle name, which had actually been picked by his then 5 year old sister.

My grandsons don't have middle names, and have very short first names.

When doing my side of the family tree, all my ancestors had middle names , usually the gran's maiden name

All my lot have middle names and we ain’t posh.
When we adopted we never changed their first names it was the one thing their birth parents gave them, however we did give them middle names of our choice. Actually we did have to change a daughter’s name as it replicated one of our birth children’s name.

I have never actually thought about whether or not people have a middle name. It surprised me to hear that some people haven't got one.
I have one so do our DDs. DH has 2 and we have no idea where one has come from! Too late to ask now.

I must look on the family birth certificates I have of my GPs and see whether they have middle names. One GM changed the spelling of her first name as it was the same name as her DHs first wife.
Its strange how so much you take for granted until you stop and think about it. So middle names I am now thinking about.

I have too. Rule number one: avoid a middle name that begins with a vowel as it can produce some interesting initials!!
