My father was an immigrant, my mother’s parents and my son is an immigrant in North America.

It is nasty behaviour.

The 'rofl' emojis can be really dismissive and 'Mean Girls'. Context is all, and if they really mean that something is amusing they are fine, but when they are used to ridicule someone's opinion they are just nasty.

I'm not sure what has triggered your OP, Sago, but if it's Estrangement, I sympathise, as I rarely read those threads, but when I do (I use Active Topics so don't always know which forum I am in) I am aghast at the unwarranted nastiness of people who seem to just want to cause hurt to others. Why do that?

Otherwise, there is a lot of point-scoring, but I think that's been the case as long as I've been here (since 2018 or so) - it's just that the main characters change over time as posters come and go.

Me neither. I have seen people post a comment and they are ignored. Then someone else posts the same thing and they fawn all over them. I can't see why either.

Passive aggression also happens as well. I was accused of something by a poster but she then added I am sorry if this is not the case. This poster was covering her arse but the message was clear.

I also think some posters are unpleasant but they don't bother me at all. I could not care less. If they come for me I will deal with it at the time and move on.

Sometimes there is a mean girl vibe and people think they can put posters down. It's not as bad as it was as I have noticed posters are not willing to put up with it.

Belittling and sneering is a form of bullying.

As you “you must be a bit thick”, or “ you need to get out more”
“your life must very limited”, ‘you are obviously ignorant”.

Together with the virtue signalling of ‘if only you could be more tolerant, compassionate, educated, thoughtful, caring understanding…..,” ie you are none of things.

All of this I have seen from a number of posters who are on this thread.

I'm more worried about the poster who just this week is reporting me to GNHQ in order to get me removed. There's a snake or two in the grass waiting to pounce. Luckily, admin saw nothing untoward in my presence on GN.

I was a bit surprised at you saying a bit thick, which seemed rude - and actually not like you at all. I usually like your comments and respect you.

Considering that most of my posts are full of typos, and I have had several months when the 'Q' on my laptop was non-functioning, I have rarely been picked up on my spelling or syntax.

By the by, I have just replaced my laptop and I can QQQQQQqqqqqqq, as much as I like again.!

In defence of witches covens, I have a friend who is a witch and runs a coven and she and her friends are lovely. They are a real sisterhood and are very nature aware and gentle. Perhaps I would use the word 'snake pit' or 'mean girls' is a good one. There is one who walks amongst us who can be quite cutting and disparaging. Never replied because if I did I would be very rood indeed and probably get chucked orf!

In my experience, the people who are most dismissive of therapy are the ones who need it most. In the same way, people who bully those who seek advice on here for a problem are the ones with the even bigger problem that needs help…

I am the same with my grammar.
I read posts for a year before I actually built up the confidence to post anything.
I’ve also had mean replies to my posts over MH issues.

Magenta is right, it happens too often.

I always ignore posts that are personally directed at me in a negative way. It doesn't happen very often but when it does I take no notice and migrate to another thread.

There are people on here whose political views I detest - but I am sure they are decent kind people in their daily lives and their comments are in the abstract rather than personally directed, which is as it should be.

The sort of support that is to be found on here outweighs the occasional inappropriate attack.

Oh - and commenting on an individual's spelling or grammar is not acceptable - I have a dyslexic DD and understand the problems. In any event I think lots of the errors aer spellcheck generated.

I’ll be honest. I have a complex abuse/trauma background related to my own estrangement so if the thread goes down a certain rhetoric I tend to stop posting. I don’t think anyone who hasn’t been through the same complex trauma can really understand anything about it tbh. I think my abuse is quite straightforward in the way it played out too, same old pattern, same old charm and abuse.

Sorry if I’m completely off the mark Sago but I did post early on and then decided to step away for my own sake. I don’t want you to think I abandoned you. I also won’t go back and check because of self preservation
