Where would we be without humour?

In a very unfunny place!

We all have different ideas though about what’s humour and what isn’t, so would love to hear yours?

I’ll kick off,

I enjoy some stand up, eg Michael McIntyre, Peter Kay, John Bishop and quite a lot more.

I enjoy political satire such as HIGNFY and Mock the Week.

I loved Victoria Wood’s style of comedy and also when she worked with Julie Walter’s and I like the silliness of French and Saunders. Back in the day I saw Victoria Wood live, and French and Saunders live, both shows highly amusing. I also saw Jack Dee live, his dour-faced humour had us all in stitches.

Dinner Ladies still makes me laugh, as does Only Fools and Horses and Fawlty Towers.

Quite like other sit-coms too, including some of the much older ones like The Good Life.

Actually, many things can make me laugh!

What makes you laugh?

grin wink

I recommend the Bob Mortimer books too if you like daft smile

There will never be another Victoria Wood

Political correction or whatever it is called, killed most of it off for me.

Many that have been mentioned, particularly Victoria Wood. I live a thing with Diane Morgan, so looking forward to Ann Droid BBC 1 9.30 tomorrow.

Victoria Wood
"Where's my Clint?" still makes me giggle

Oh I like Mandy too. I always think of when she lit her fag in the toilets and her hair got caught in the fan

I don’t think humour is dead, following Count Binface is such a typically British humour phenomenon, and has got me captivated at the moment. To Binfinity and Beyond!

I like live comedy, I’ve seen a few big names, I thought Bill Bailey was brilliant, he’s so multi talented.

The best comedy of the 2000s for me was Gavin and Stacey, I’ve watched it so many times but still spot new little bits every time, the writing and sense of timing was phenomenal.

I like Laurel and Hardy, and Tom and Jerry, too.
The sketch in Laurel and Hardy when the end up with crabs in their pants!!'

Love Gavin and Stacey

Victoria Wood, so good there will never be another like her
Ditto Billy Connolly who makes me laugh until I cry

The Two Ronnies especially the Fork handles/four candles sketch

Fools and horses especially when he falls through the bar- still laugh no matter how many times I see it

Can’t stand Jimmy Carr
Not fussed about Monty Python - not my kind of humour and I’m afraid to me Life of Brian is blasphemous

MissAdventure Thu 16-Jul-26 15:33:41

Dame Edna Everage, Katherine Tate,.

MissAdventure Thu 16-Jul-26 15:35:32

boheminan Thu 16-Jul-26 15:56:39

Oh yes, Round the Horne ! Bona Polari etc etc. I was aware of much of the meanings and often wondered how they managed to say so much. Wonderful Billy Connolly , Dave Allen and his innumerable reasons for his missing finger etc. Fawlty Towers, with the body and then the one with the lady who was deaf. What a cheering thought they all are for this afternoon

Jaxjacky Thu 16-Jul-26 16:32:41

Billy Connolly, Monty Python, Bob Mortimer, Lee Mack, Dawn French in the Vicar of Dibley, Sarah Millican..

Grannybags Thu 16-Jul-26 22:16:22

Red Dwarf and Black Adder

aggie Thu 16-Jul-26 22:37:32

My favourite was “ I love Lucy “

Gingerrice Thu 16-Jul-26 22:42:20

A friend of mine watched the Vicar of Dibley repeatedly during a long mental illness and I honestly think it " saved her"
Long live these wonderful comedies especially in difficult times

Romola Thu 16-Jul-26 22:52:43

Nobody's mentioned Dad's Army.
Or I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue, still going, still brilliant
