Good morning and it’s pleasantly cool, sunny with a slight breeze here in Essex.

A lot of my pot plants have died in the heat and as I have visitors on Saturday, I bought a hydrangea and a couple of fuschias in the market yesterday.
Empty pots and withering plants don’t look very pretty as you come through the front door, so this has brightened it up. Hope they last a while. Next year it will be just geraniums and a few pots of veg - chillies, tomatoes, courgettes.

Dh was always the gardener but now it’s down to me . I do my best but ….. 🥀.

Today I have to take DH’s hearing aids into Specsavers. The left one has never been reliable , sometimes charging and other times dead. They will probably have to go back to the makers.,

I’ll shop again in M and s for extra bits for Saturday. I made a lemon cheese cake and sausage rolls but I’m not cooking anything else. Cold meats ,M salads, ready cooked chicken , quiches., will suffice.

Bellasnanna have a lovely holiday
Dragonfly I hope the scan goes ahead today.
Marydoll hope things are improving.,🙏

Take care and enjoy the day as well as you can. 🌺

Good morning from a bright sunny but so far cool Suffolk. I’m off to my stretch class soon, leaving a bit earlier than usual to drop off a friend’s hand held fan that she lent us for our trip to London on Saturday…a kindly thought but not needed luckily.

I’m meeting 3 friends for lunch at a pub overlooking the sea further up the coast. We meet up every few weeks but last time one friend was ill so we are happy to be back today to a group of 4.

Hope today is a good one for all.

Good morning Mick and everyone from sunny Carlisle.
Yesterday's sun lured me out into the garden after lunch. It had been a pleasant temperature in the house but the sun proved too fierce for me in the end. I did a lot of deadheading but abandoned anything more vigorous.
I'd been to the garden centre in the morning for sacks of large gravel for topping up but didn't feel like spreading it. The plants I'd bought remained reclining in the shade.

Today, it's off into town to collect a prescription that's taken ages to collate, after which I'll pop into Marks for some salad.
I could go out again this afternoon as there's a U3A talk. It's air-conditioned....we'll see.
In between, a little tidying and cleaning is required.

Have a good day all.

Good morning all from Shetland where we have a misty start. Today we pack up to leave these beautiful islands. I have checked the sea state and it looks like a calm crossing which always a relief. We don’t sail until this evening so we will spend the day in the south of the island.
Yesterday turned out to be glorious again. We left CDog with a friend and visited the island of
Mousa which has the most complete brock anywhere in Scotland. We have had the most unShetland like weather this week. Calm and warm is not what we packed for!
Special thoughts to Dragonfly this morning. Take care everyone 🌸

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 14° and cloudy. Im sure it will burn off. Bellasnana lovely photos. It looks like a nice place.
Yesterday was a lovely day with a couple of friends. We blethered for ages. It was good to see them.
Today I will potter about the house and the garden. More weeding to be done. Have a good day all

Good morning from a cooler Black Country, it has been like this all week, cool in mornings, hot by afternoon.

Walking group walk this morning, a friend is picking me up as we take it in turns driving.

Expensive day yesterday. Eye test, where I was told my eyes are good for my age with no signs of Cataracts! Still prescription changed as one eye had slightly changed. So new glasses. Then Dentist check up, where a filling was recommend to replace one already there that was disintegrating, so back in 3 weeks.

Wishing you all the best day possible

WhiteSwan63 Thu 16-Jul-26 07:59:29

Good morning from the east coast.
I was just sat out watching the birds but it felt a bit too chilly. I really wish we could have some rain to save watering everyday.

We have our window cleaner coming this morning he does all the inside and outside windows so it’s a good excuse for a clean up because everything comes of the windowsills so everywhere looks lovely when he’s gone.

I’m picking my grandson up today. He was amazing yesterday and was so happy and smiling and was chatty in his way. Unfortunately the f word came out three times I was shocked. 🤦Of course I didn’t say anything to him as we want him to talk. My husband was smiling quietly to himself. It won’t be from my son but his mother well there’s another story. My son said he could have heard it at school. I will mention it to his mother though because I don’t think my son has the courage to. I’ll be emotional picking him up. I have a voucher as a gift for his TA because she’s always been so positive even on his worst days and has always seen the best in him. I’m ready for two mornings a week looking after him for 6weeks. My DGDs don’t need us this summer as their daddy is home from work for 8 weeks.

Wishing everyone a lovely day. Thoughts to those suffering stress and illness 🌼

Good morning everyone from another bright and sunny 🌞 Northampton day. Up early and dressed this morning as the cats are being collected to go to the cattery. Obviously they have no idea and I shall have to call them into the kitchen with promises of Dreamies!

Yesterday was spent shortening a dress for this weekend - I have worn it several times already but felt as it was virtually floor length that it really was too long. In the end I compared it to another dress I have and decided to take a good 7 inches off, and make it more of a midi length.
I could have done with Karma's sewing skills and patience, as it took me a good two to three hours and much cursing, but I am quite pleased with the finished item.

Shall have my main meal at lunchtime today, as I am being picked up by DD late afternoon, first of all to go to our ladies wine evening tonight, then tomorrow we.set off for a weekend in Liverpool, where we are attending family ruby wedding celebrations.
It is a cousin on late DH's side of the family who is celebrating; we went to their actual wedding in 1986, then their silver wedding in 2011. The last time we all got together was at DH"s funeral 8 years ago. It will be good to see them all again - there is a very large cohort of Lancashire cousins plus their partners and families.

We are also hoping to get a little bit of sight-seeing of Liverpool in as well. Trying to decide what clothes to take has been difficult!

Wishing all a cooler and pleasant day.

GrannyIvy Thu 16-Jul-26 08:18:27

Good morning from Cambridgeshire where we are enjoying cooler mornings and evenings and think we may have had a small amount of rain overnight. We now have a hosepipe ban and I’m finding it exhausting watering my garden front and back with a watering can and DH is struggling with a bad back so unable to help. I am just not prepared to let my lovely plants suffer.

Today is my last Pilates class until September and then I’m going to lunch with my DD2 and a short walk together. Her ex husband is making life very difficult at the moment and a big storm may be brewing as we enter the school summer holidays.

Thinking of all those struggling and those unable to post at the moment. Take care everyone 🌷

Good morning. Cool here but sun forecast for later.
Thanks for the birthday wishes yesterday.we had a lovely meal out last evening and also now have a houseful of flowers.
Diabetic check in an hour or so and I have some cakes to make for the sewing group this afternoon. More to make over the next few days for various occasions.
Hope all journeys and appointments go well and our poorly posters get some relief. A good day wished for all with a smile along the way.

Marydoll Thu 16-Jul-26 08:35:48

Good morning from Glasgow, where it is predicted to be 28'° C.

Belated birthday greetings Ginny ,

I have been very unwell, over the last week, the antibiotics were totally ineffective, Running a temperature in this heat is not pleasant.
Yesterday, I completed an engage consult at 7.30am and by 7.50am was given a face to face GP appointment for 10am.
The problem is that I am allergic to so many medications and/or they contraindicate with my heart medications,
I got home, took the new medication immediately, but about five minutes later, I began to feel very unwell. I knew that feeling only too well; a reaction was developing to the medication.

The icing on the cake is that I have developed Tensinovitis in my left hand, I have trigger finger and my pinkie is numb. That means, I will need to go back to wearing those blasted splints.
If only they could me dyed to match my outfit, it totally spots my look.🤣

I tried to tell DH, something was wrong, but he is so deaf (and in total denial) that, he didn't hear me and went off upstairs.
I went to be sick, but never made it to the loo.
TMI, but I was projectile vomiting everywhere; over myself, the carpets and the bathroom floor. It was so scary, because a previous similar incident put me in hospital with a heart attack.
I was puzzled, because I have had these antibiotics before.
Thank goodness it eventually stopped.

The GP, I saw, was so kind. I had encountered her last year, when I was very ill and she kept patting my hand. She was exactly the same this time and was concerned about how unwell I am, but more so on finding suitable and effective treatment.
I got a ⭐ for bringing a sputum sample to try and identify the bacteria, causing the problem.
Also, my exceedingly high BP shocked her, (higher than DH's), I explained DH had insisted on driving me to the surgery. No need to explain further. 😉

The receptionists asked how I was, when I arrived. I was ranting about DH and his driving. He is allowed to drive, but will not listen to advice, despite me knowing that route, like the back of my hand.
Driving at just over the speed limit by a few mph, e,g 32mph, means the speeding alert is constantly beeping.
It drives me to distraction.🤬
He is always right, everyone else is at fault.
Unfortunately, unknown to me, he was standing behind me. That was one time, I was grateful for his deafness. 🤣

Today, DH has an appointment for an ECG, but I need a chest xray too. The GP has put me into the system and I will go and have it done, while DH is having his procedure. It makes sense and is one less trip.

A quiet afternoon is planned, I am struggling badly and so frustrated and annoyed at my limitations.

I haven't been able to concentrate and read posts, so please forgive me.
However, I do know that a special hug for Dragonfly, who ne
needs our support, is require.d

Lovely to see Blossoming posting.

Grannygravy, I hope the steroids are starting to work,

Finally, a special mention of a granspal, who has been checking, I am OK.

Have a lovely day folks and thank your for your concern.

Good morning everyone from south Manchester! Is nice to be back. I used to wonder whether I could live in Málaga but I’m especially glad now that I don’t. Here is home. There is holiday.

I’m off to see my 94 year old stepfather this morning who was diagnosed with shingles while I was away. Poor man is finally turning a corner he says but he’s been pretty exhausted by it all.

Then this afternoon I have a nail appointment at the salon over the road my nails grow so long so quickly on holiday in the sun!

The Boy Wonder is 14y this weekend so I’ve a present to buy and money to put in a card. This big strapping lad melts my heart. Himself was always so proud of him, not just because of his sporting achievements but because of his generous nature and kindness towards his younger sister. No wonder she adores him.

madeleine45 Thu 16-Jul-26 09:12:48

Good morning Micheal and all GN's from a still, but at the moment cooler North Yorkshire. Grateful for that but think it will be warming up again soon.

Frustrating that I am really creaking and taking ages to get going, so not making the most of the cool to do anything. Mentally I have improved a bit and can think about what needs doing etc and make plans. Unfortunately physically isnt matching up, so I just have to plod along.

Yesterday ended up a more successful day but very disorganised, and I need to try to sort things out today. As we had the lovely cool grey start to the morning, I ignored all intentions and went straight out to go and get fuel and some shopping. Had put off going to the garage in the heat and it was getting down to a much lower level than I usually let it. So that was a job ticked off at last, and then I came home and while it was still grey and cool ,chucked things in the fridge , and then went off on the yellow peril to the open market.

It was very busy, as of course everyone was making the most of the cooler morning. I was glad to be on the buggy as I also had a little breeze moving around. The market was as expected very busy , and I had to keep my wits about me, as the buggy is so quiet, and people often just step back from looking at a stall , or turn or stop without warning. The worst yesterday was a man with a dog on a long lead. He was taking no notice of the dog and it was going across the path , as it wanted, making rather a lethal low level line for people to fall over. I have a bicycle bell on the buggy , so I can just do a little "ting"to let people know I am there, as it is so quiet , and was glad I had it.

I went to Nero's , which was on the shady side of the road, andso was able to leave the buggy outside and go and get my birthday treat belatedly. I had a free cake offer from my birthday, so was able to have my coffee in my lovely bone china mug with an apricot croissant. It was quite cool inside, and I was greeted like a long lost cousin by the staff, as it had been so long since I had been in. They also said that some ladies from a group I go to had been in asking if they had seen me. Then the sun started to come out, so I beat a hasty retreat home to closed curtains and cool, but felt rather weary , and my back was bad.

I had to lie flat for a while to get stretched out a bit, and it took quite a while to get shopping sorted, and catch up with the jobs that I usually start the day with. Made quite a good salad with some watercress, which was fine but didnt have the "bite" that it used to. Dont know if it is me or the watercress that has changed! Anyway at least I was galvanized into going to the whist drive last night.

A good evening, one or two less tables as the football fans were not there, but still quite a crowd. I had some odd hands and a mixed evening, but actually won a prize and also a raffle prize too so was "quids in" for the evening. It is held in a small village, and helps to support the village hall. You need a car to get there, no buses in the evening, but quite a lot of things and clubs keep it going well. We pay £4 for the evening, which gives us our score cards for the game and a couple of raffle tickets. In the winter it is good to have something to encourage you to go out and meet up. They are a lovely crowd so it was good to get back to them and hear all their news and views. I am pleased with my lovely fresh free range eggs, and still love to see their dark brown shells, rather than white! As a child I loved a brown boiled egg, rather than white. I had to pay the price of my back taking ages to improve , having sat for longer than I usually do, but it was worth it.

Today I am being very slow to get going, but need to get the washer going asap, bedding sorted, but any plans for the day is definitely going to be "back permitting" Hope you enjoy the Tour de France Micheal. Very sensible GrandMattie to opt out of hosting in unsuitable rooms. In this weather it takes a lot of effort in the best circumstances, without have extra problems. Karmalady I dont know where you get your energy from and am amazed at how much you are able to do. Well done you. Melanie61, glad you got your tooth sorted. Dentists are my worst nightmare , and even though I know things are much improved, still can cope with any hospital operations or whatever than the dentist. So hope you take things steady today and feel much better.

Well time to make an effort and get that washer going. Hope all you plans go well today and that it stays cool enough to be able to enjoy the day. Take care , keep cool and have a good day

Good morning from a sunny NE Mids.
I’m late today due to our internet connection not behaving itself, has anyone else had problems with EE today may I ask? Does seem ok now though.
Have a good day one and all!

Usedtobeblonde Thu 16-Jul-26 09:34:17

Good morning from Stockport.
I am late as I didn’t have access to my iPad until a few minutes ago.
I am happy to say my upset digestive system cleared as suddenly as it started and I feel I can eat normally buy cautiously today.
I am expecting a member of staff from a local Building Society visiting this morning to close an account for me, I am delighted with the level of service from them.
The local branch only opens a few hours a week and I am unable to get there myself.
I am thinking of the poorlies here today and hope they get some help and better news.
Stay cool and hydrated everyone.

karmalady Thu 16-Jul-26 09:36:14

I am back home, all jobs done and I will be bagging the Charlotte spuds into brown paper bags this afternoon. I decided I was not going to risk slug damage. They will last for months in the bags

I finished the second Charlie before ocado arrived and everything has been put away, it includes my preps for my big family gathering

Wrt, ` bursting` wardrobe, no it is not bursting. I give a lot away to salvation army but I don`t make announcements. I have an active mind and find that sewing keeps my mind busy, in a good way, exercise for the brain

At the moment, I am eating my first home grown fig this year and taking a break with a large glass of water. Feet up and then will need to wash and change, again after doing active jobs

I might make a toile for a Tessuti Melinda dress, I have quilting cotton and will use that, wear it a few times to see how it feels on me, then wash and press it before handing on. I do intend to use a nice linen for the final (keeping) version if all is good.

Ladyleftfieldlover how are the bees coping in this constant heat?

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Thu 16-Jul-26 09:43:46

karma I can never bring myself to eat a fig ever since I read they contained a dead wasp. Something to do with pollination or some such. Yes I know the body gets broken down as the fig matures, but me being squeamish just can’t go there!

hollysteers Thu 16-Jul-26 09:44:15

Good morning from Sunnyside northwest coast.
DD left for the south yesterday after a short visit. She gave me an excellent pedicure before she left as well as selling some unknown shares which surfaced after my DH died. She is such a help to me.

I decided to watch the England match and thought the build up was taking a long time, but was actually on the wrong channel, so missed most of the first half (when nothing happened anyway…)
Today I’ll carry on sorting out my art materials which I have moved from the dining room table.
Thoughts to all🌺

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Thu 16-Jul-26 09:45:37

From Wiki:
AI Overview
“Figs can be a gray area for vegans because many wild varieties rely on fig wasps for pollination. A female wasp crawls into the fig to lay eggs, loses her wings, and dies. The fig then uses natural enzymes to completely break down her body and absorb the nutrients.”

If I had a crunchy bit in my mouth I’d be 😱

karmalady Thu 16-Jul-26 09:46:42

MD I do hope that your innermost spirit wins this awful battle that you are going through with your body

karmalady Thu 16-Jul-26 09:49:30

FGT I haven`t seen any wasps here and the fig is just a flower bud. Might be different in a middle east country

Should I tell DH who loves figs?
I only like them as fig rolls….

No chance of seeing you on I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here then fgt 😂

Good morning all

Grammaretto Thu 16-Jul-26 09:57:21

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders. Cool here but the sun is on its way.

I am very slow to get going these days too Madeleine. I am still on pain killers for sciatica but trying to wean myself off and no opiates so that I can drive.

I have my dental appointment this afternoon half an hour by car away, an hour and a half by bus. I shall take the French helpers so they can enjoy the beach.

I probably overdid it yesterday with viewing a house (too big and too expensive) and helping a friend who is trying to organise a party/memorial for her late DH in her garden. I'm lending her garden chairs and glasses and my lovely French helpers!

My cousin left early this morning to fly home to Boston. I shall miss her. She is so funny and keeps everyone amused. She also speaks good French.

I am so sorry that you have been so poorly MD and your DH too. Sending hugs and prayers for you to get better.

Have a good day everyone.

Good morning from Llandudno.
Good ride down on the motor bike yesterday.
Nice walk on the front. Lovely meal at the hotel.
Going up the great Orme on the bike this morning. then home 😊
