A thread for people who have been on GN a long time

I was sorting a few papers out yesterday and a writing pad sheet fluttered to the floor and on it it said just ‘December 2013’
and underneath that was a list of names, that I soon realised were GN posters. It was probably not long after I had joined GN and maybe me trying to remember names but I thought some old timers may be interested to have a look and see who they recognise,
It might set some memories off

I still miss Big Louis and her forthrightness.

She’s still here - look for a friendly feline 🐱

What a lovely thread for a relative newbie like myself... shows its a real community not just an online "group". Here's to many more 👏🫶!!

I remember Monica and AnnieBach, both still around I think?

I saw ga posting the other day.

merlotgran Sun 12-Jul-26 13:35:43

I’m sorry to hear about Nanaandgrampy. Wasn’t she the lady who used to post wildlife photos in soops kitchen or have I got that wrong?

I remember being on the same wavelength as janerowena where gardening was concerned. I missed her when she left.

Is grannyactivist still around? I was thinking of her the other day when it was on the news that Prince Harry would be visiting Scotty’s Little Soldiers.
I think her daughter, who had lost her husband in Afghanistan, was a founder.

I've been on GN for ages. Years. I wish I could remember how many. I like it very much.
And I have never changed my user name. I mostly keep a fairly low profile.

Whilst it is nice for the long term GNetters I do find the title of this thread to be a little exclusive. I’m not bothered either way tbh but a very new member might find it dismissive……..just saying!

Pittcity Sun 12-Jul-26 12:22:32

Found it...on it's last legs after nearly 10 years.

kittylester Sun 12-Jul-26 12:19:28

Sorry, merlot, I thought someone had mentioned you.

anna7 Sun 12-Jul-26 12:17:35

I am so sorry to hear that Namnyandgrandpy has died. She was very helpful to me a few years ago and I've never forgotten.

Tried to upload photo of posh biro donated by GNHQ. Those were the days.

My biros are just beginning to run out 🥲

Hi fellow oldies.

I am still around, nana8 but i don't think BlueBelle was saying we weren't.

Greatnan was here when I first joined. Phoenix too from fairly early i think but maybe with a name change.

Maw would have been around too, I expect.

And me 😂

Cressy Sun 12-Jul-26 11:58:55

Keep these names coming please. I have only been here since Covid and have had two previous usernames - changed because they might have outed me. I think I joined shortly before Phoenix sadly died. I remember how comforting this site was during those strange times.

Beechnut Sun 12-Jul-26 11:54:22

I think you were Mawbroon when I joined Maw

MawsRosie Sun 12-Jul-26 11:42:45

I am so sorry to hear about Nannaandgrampy
I was in quite regular touch with them after their move to Norfolk, but life got in the way , I lost touch and hadn’t heard of her death.
RIP K***n

I joined Gransnet in 2011 but under a different name to the one I use now. I remember most of those on the list. The first meet up I went to I remember Nandalot and Tegan attending along with, I think, BigBertha, among others. If I have that name wrong I apologise but I seem to remember the lady was a golfer and her username was golf related! Kittylester was to have attended but had to pull out at the last minute. I later attended York meet-ups regularly but after covid we never seemed to get them going again though I still keep contact with one poster. They were great fun.

My greatest sadness concerns one poster with whom I formed a particularly close tie. We met twice, distance and health issues precluding anything more than that but we just clicked straight away, and we were close friends for several years. That we both had a service background helped! Very sadly, she died in 2024. Her user name was NannaandGrampy. I’m sure many of you will remember her.

There are those on Gransnet with whom I have genuinely close friendships though the chances of us seeing each other again lessen with every passing year. Thank goodness for the internet. I’m sure it is the same for many others on here.

I've still got loads of these left over from the Gransnet conference. HQ sent them as a contribution. Elegran Katek Baggs and I organised it. We had donation to party bags for all attending. Sadly that excellent venue is no longer available to the likes of us. It's gone far upmarket.
I was Jane10 in those days.

Greenfinch Sun 12-Jul-26 11:24:23

Mamie, I met her in Dorking! A less exotic venue.

hulahoop Sun 12-Jul-26 11:22:39

I remember Phoenix ,Gillybob and some who have changed their name.I have been on gransnet a few years but I am not a daily poster so don't get many replies when I post.

kittylester Sun 12-Jul-26 11:13:18

Corner is still here.

GA was here way back when too.

Hymnbook Sun 12-Jul-26 11:10:23

Morning
I don't often post but I've been on this site for a good few years.

Mamie Sun 12-Jul-26 11:09:12

So who remembers the Pantomime?
