Good morning everyone from another bright and sunny 🌞 Northampton day. Going to be very hot again.

Was busy first thing yesterday morning; was out cutting the front grass at 9am, then as I still felt good after finishing that I decided to do the back. I managed to get three quarters of it done before both mower batteries gave out. By that time it was nearly 11am so I made a lovely iced coffee, and sat and did the puzzle page in my newspaper.

I then put the towels in the washing machine, did the washing up and then went and had my shower. That was it for the day - I just put the fan on and sat and read for the rest of the day, starting a new book.

I had a text yesterday asking me to book a pre-op before my next cataract op - so I did that and they offered me two weeks today.

Made a lovely spicy sausage fried rice for dinner last night, flavoured with coriander, cumin and chilli. Tonight it will be fish cake, fries and peas.

Before I shower this morning I will vacuum the stairs, there is so much cat fur on them! I also need to deal with the bins and cat litter tray, as tomorrow is bin day. And must also amend my grocery order as Waitrose is delivering tomorrow.

Still dealing with Tower re my new air fryer which is no use as it trips the fuse box.....

Take care and stay cool....

Good morning everyone from Inverness where it’s dry and bright with a forecast high of 22° today
Gorgeous photos today thank you all
A busy day ahead, I've an online volunteering session this morning and then I’ll be off to the gym. Home this afternoon and then out line dancing this evening.
Thinking of ever with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

Good. Or inb from a sunnny Suffolk where the heat seems to be returning after a cooler evening yesterday.

I’ll go to my keep fit class as it starts at 9.30 and I ‘ll be home by 11 before the heat builds up.

I’m on the search for strawberries that I can hull. Even the ones which are sold as local seem to be the kind which need a knife to remove the green bit. I imagine they are grown in polytunnels rather than in the ground. We reminisced last evening about the many trips we made when the children were young to the local ‘pick your own’ strawberry fields when the children probably ate more than we paid for and took home.

Hope you have a well earned restful day RosesandLilac and all goes well at your appt tomorrow.

Grammaretto Wed 08-Jul-26 07:42:33

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders. It will warm up today but only the mid 20s.
I actually put the heating on for a while yesterday evening as my guests were shivering!

The Djokovic match entertained me while I waited for my gas kiln to reach the top temperature. I must now wait until tomorrow before it is cool enough to open.

Yarn group and community lunch today.
The French volunteers will work in the "garden".

Good grief Rosesandlilac ! That sounds like overdoing it to me. Look after yourself please. I hope the chat with your consultant goes well.

I'm glad you're enjoying Anstruther, Harrigran but sad about your pain.

I wish my back pain would leave me. I just hope the physiotherapist on Friday will at least explain what's going on.

Keep cool and hydrated all who are in the heatwave.

Good Morning from Durham. Blue sky with some cloud and expected to reach 27 by 3pm. Like ginny I feel much better in the sun. My DF had COPD, but still lapped up the heat, saying it felt good for him.
Today, I’ve a dental appointment to discuss ongoing treatment and need petrol en route. The practice has changed hands and my new chap really doesn’t inspire confidence, but at 75, I’d probably struggle to find somewhere else.
This afternoon, I’m seeing my solicitor to amend/re-do my will, as circumstances have changed.
I might get DD2’s Little Dog later, but that’s to be confirmed. I miss our dogs at times Melanie. We had up to 10 springers, but it was DH’s hobby and I only looked after them 100% when he was away, but they were defo very tying.
Puss late DH’s friend had a fabulous house overlooking Strangford (sp?) Loch, it’s a beautiful area.
💐for WhiteSwan63 and RosesandLilac

Best wishes to all. X

God morning from another hot and sunny Black Country.

At Mums yesterday, both her sets of Hearing Aids were not working (Private & NHS - wax in Tubes). Private company cannot come out until next Tuesday, so this morning I am going to Spec Savers for them to do this, so over again to Mums so she can hear again. Such as shame as I was planning to go to the Birmingham Meet up today!

Really need to book an appointment for wax removal for her or it will happen again.

Wishing you all the best day possible.

Redcar Wed 08-Jul-26 07:32:08

Good morning everyone from mid Essex. Sunny and d warm again, I have windows open on the shady side of the house and will spend the day trying to keep cool.

On my way back from the post office yesterday morning I met my gardener’s wife and caught up with their news. He is hoping to resume gardening next week, plenty for him to do in my garden, mainly pulling out dead plants!

rosesandlilac that sounds like a very busy day for you yesterday, no wonder you felt exhausted! Please take it easy today.
karma I have to be very careful not to tear my skin when gardening, it’s uncomfortable but necessary for me to wear long trousers, a long sleeved top and gauntlets when doing anything outside.

I’m enjoying the lovely photos and stories of holidays today, thank you everyone!

Thinking of those who are poorly or who are struggling with the heat (or cold weather if you have it).

Have the best day possible everyone.

Astitchintime Wed 08-Jul-26 07:26:41

Good morning from an already very warm NE Mids. I don’t plan to venture far today although MrA does have a mid morning appointment that he can attend alone.
The vegetable beds are desperate for steady rain and with very low water butt levels I’ll soon have to resort to tap water which grieves me no end.
Have a good day one and all!

Gelisa Wed 08-Jul-26 07:25:40

Good morning all from Montrose where the sun is streaming in through the open bedroom door of our Airbnb.
Had a good journey up yesterday calling at Abbotsford the home of Sir Walter Scott. The gardens were delightful. It was a pity it was only a whistle stop. Today we will head to Aberdeen where we will get the overnight ferry to Shetland. Take care. 🌸

Usedtobeblonde Wed 08-Jul-26 07:24:26

Good morning from a beautifully sunny Stockport.
It is only 17 degrees but a forecast of 28 is predicted.

I am due to see a friend/ neighbour this afternoon as I have done almost weekly since her H died but I am getting very close to having to decide how long I can keep it up.
I come away from our afternoons so frustrated and down by our conversation that it is doing me no good at all.
She is completely self absorbed and can only tell me how her life is, brilliant or unique, I cannot change the subject however hard I try.

I have been so lazy recently but must pull my socks up if the heat allows and prepare for my GD’d departure which is looming, first on the cards is a cleaner.
At least meals are easy while this weather holds, salads are so quick and chicken, salmon, tuna a blessing along with the air fryer, the oven is feeling neglected ( and staying clean).

Stay cool and hydrated everyone, R&L flowers you are being very stoic and my thoughts are with you.

Greyduster Wed 08-Jul-26 07:11:44

Ginny I remember years ago, DH and I walked from Gunwalloe on a blistering day up to Kynance Cove, hoping for a swim when we got there only to find it was heaving on the beach - standing room only. Super disappointed as its such a lovely spot.

Ashcombe Wed 08-Jul-26 07:11:40

I hope your son-in-law makes a full recovery, Marzipan22 and you enjoy the chance to relax a little. Thinking of you.

WhiteSwan63 Wed 08-Jul-26 07:11:33

Good morning from the east coast and it’s glorious and cool. I’m sitting out listening to the morning bird song.

Yesterday I took my mum to visit my uncle who is deteriorating daily. She had to go into his lounge and had a good cry. It’s so upsetting to see the pain he is in but the carers are angels and look after him so well.

I think I’ll go to the gym this morning and this afternoon I’m picking up DGS. I left out the sprinkler from Monday so no doubt we will be running in and out of it together. I need to pick up a couple of new books from the Amazon locker for him. He’s trying so hard to speak and asks me for them so politely. I’m so proud of him.

RosesandLilac 💐

Enjoy your day I hope you can all keep cool and comfortable.🌼

harrigran Wed 08-Jul-26 07:06:49

Good morning from Anstruther.
Yesterday we spent the afternoon at the secret bunker, vrty interesting. DS suggested we walk round Crail, we did but it was hard work for him pushing my wheelchair. I should have done more research.
I think I will have to stay in today as I am in a lot of pain. We are staying in an upside down house and the lounge windows allow a view across to the Isle of May. I will sit and read by the window.
Have a good day.

karmalady Wed 08-Jul-26 07:06:10

Thank you RosesandLilacs brilliant, I am going to order those plasters now

GrannyGravy13 Wed 08-Jul-26 06:57:25

Good morning from an already glorious sunny corner of S E Essex it is 20° with a high if 30° forecast.

Oh RosesandLilac please do not over do things, your body is telling you to rest 🌹🪻

Not sure if I will go to the gym this morning, my breathing isn’t responding to the steroids, so I shall listen to it and take things slowly.

I was very pleased with my two dresses from The White Company (they were in the sale, 60% off) I need to iron them, but that can wait.

This evening DH is going out to dinner with his group of (cronies) friends for dinner, one of his besties is dropping of his wife here who just happens to be one of my closest friends. I have booked a table in a lovely little local Italian, hopefully we will fit in some eating between talking and sipping wine (don’t worry we will keep hydrated)

Love the castle made out of hay bales Ashcombe
Have a good day folks 🙋‍♀️

ginny Wed 08-Jul-26 06:47:57

Good morning from an already warm Lizard peninsula. So far the weather has been perfect here. Very warm but not humid , with a breeze. I know many of you don’t like it but I feel somuch better in this weather.
Yesterday we went to Falmouth, had a very pretty and relaxing boat trip up the river Fal and a look around the beaches.
Later we had dinner and an evening stroll at Gunwalloe.
We will start today with coffe at a nearby lake and the decide on the rest of the day.
Thinking of all with troubles and sadness. Hope the day is kind to you all.

Marzipan22 Wed 08-Jul-26 06:46:17

Good morning from the Wirral where I can't open the hotel room curtains because the sun is already fierce and would fill the room. No air conditioning so I'm pinned to a desk fan.

My son-in-law is home after a week in hospital. I've been supporting my daughter and helping practically - it's been tough, but now I have a few days of more or less leisure if I dare go out in this heat. My ex has paid for an extra week's hotel stay for me so I can be nearby for my daughter if more help is needed.

Meanwhile at home my son has watered the plants on my much-missed patio so hopefully they'll survive. He also received the delivery of a heavy wooden garden bench and has taken it into my flat. I'll enjoy assembling that when I get home. Yesterday I went into Liverpool, my old stomping ground, and had a lovely wander around. Today I'll catch a bus to somewhere and back if I can before the heat really rises.

Good morning from Sheffield,

Karmalady, I hope you heal quickly. Maybe let a pharmacist have a look?

I am working today. I have had a restless night, so expect it to be a long day.
I must get up and take the sausages out soon. I love having them, and they are lovely dogs, but it does remind me how much attention you need to give to pets and how time-consuming they are. I have had dogs all my life until our last Labrador died 16 years ago. We had two Labradors for many years. I think when the children were little, their care just mixed in. I’m getting selfish in my old age and don’t seem to want that commitment anymore. It’s nice to have them in short bursts.

Another hot day. I am grateful for the a/c. I’m glad to be at work.
Take care everyone flowers

RosesandLilac Wed 08-Jul-26 06:39:45

You really are such lovely people on here, you buoy me along and make me feel special 🤗🥰
Karma from learned experience I always keep my arms and legs covered when gardening, it’s far too easy to get snags and skin tears isn’t it? I wear old cotton trousers and a big old cotton man’s shirt, not elegant by a long shot but works well. I use hydrocolloid plasters/ dressings if I inadvertently get an injury, they’re brilliant for healing quickly and the work so well to draw out splinters or thorns too.

monk08 Wed 08-Jul-26 06:28:48

Good morning all from the Black country.
Early start DH is fishing.
Teddybears picnic day at toddlers today last toddlers until September, it's held in DiLs mums garden . Will decide how to spend rest of the day depending on how tired I feel there are a few jobs need doing but they can wait.
RosesandLilac you was one busy lady yesterday do rest up today.
Have the best day you can everyone whatever your plans and keep cool 😎.

kittylester Wed 08-Jul-26 06:28:37

Good morning all from a warm and sunny North Leicestershire.

Yesterday's Memory Cafe was an emotional roller coaster. We had children from a nearby by preschool which is always fun and joyful. My specific job then was to talk a mother and son about what is on offer for Carers. She is caring for her husband and became very emotional as she began to see how her life has changed since his diagnosis. Hopefully she will take up everything we have to offer.

Today I am going to a 'Volunteer Event' for some training.

Have the best day possible everyone.

Ashcombe Wed 08-Jul-26 06:23:14

Good morning from a sunny Sarthe where the temperature is expected to reach 35deg by late afternoon as it did yesterday.

We ate breakfast outside but stayed indoors after food shopping and fetching the cat from the cattery. He yowled his protest for most of the journey but soon recovered on seeing familiar surroundings.

Whilst we were out we passed through a village preparing for a mediaeval festival. This photo shows a novel way of advertising it.

No wonder you were tired, RosesandLilac! I’d take a week to manage all those tasks! Do take care of yourself.

It’s good to see Grandmabatty posting again. 🥰

Happy hump day! 👍😀🥰😺👍

Good morning from s somerset

RosesnandLilac flowers yes too much for you yesterday but understandable. Time for some me-time today and maybe think of having a cleaner now and then. You are too precious to be driven into the ground

All windows and doors are open, there is no wind out. I did my washing yesterday, the realisation of the coming heatwave hit me too and I was out and doing, very early.

I finished digging out the two 6-year-old rosemary shrubs, they were rampant beasts, suckered roots everywhere branches touched ground. I had to use my pry bar and a small saw. I cut two doorway lavenders too and my car is fully loaded. I shall be at the tip by 9

I still have 3 big pop-up containers of rosemary tops in the garage and will need to make a second journey to the tip. Then that is it, I will be finished with outside stuff for the day, all heavy work done

I found my solabri overarm protectors and wore them outside yesterday, well protected from the UV while in and out with washing. The lesion is mending but yes, I will still be watchful. My skin behaved the old people way for the first time, it was abraded by roses and as the skin has thinned the top layer just peeled off, no bleeding but it looked scary. Best treatment for now is cleanliness and some vaseline.

Obviously my first time for a lesion like that so now I need to find thin protective gloves with gauntlets. I have suede ones but they are too thick. A lesson to me about protective clothing on arms and legs

A big mug of tea now and I will soon be out and putting my silver shade net in place for the first time, over the back glass and before the sun comes out

Puss Wed 08-Jul-26 05:56:41

Good morning from Belfast. Very misty here this morning it's slowly clearing. A wood pigeon woke me up it just wouldn't keep quiet.
Going into my nearest town Newtownards this morning to get a wedding present. It's for
the son of a friend of my DH did try the wedding list but it was very frustrating.
After much deliberation we chose an electric carving knife only to be told they couldn't send it. !!!!!!
Then we have to go into another town near us Comber to go to a post office hub . !!!!!!
Anyhow my problems are miniscule compared to others..
Keep cool everyone.
