good afternoon from Manchester where it is now cool and breezy - today is my birthday and I have spent the morning with my mum and dad and bought us all a vanilla slice to celebrate, one of my nicer birthdays.

Condolences Gagagran 💐

Being an owl I am always late when I post here - thank you for reassurances FGT.

I am so sorry for the loss of your brother Gagagran. My only sister and I are very conscious that one of us will go first and devastate the other.

I have been doing random jobs this morning such as shortening an overlong blouse and going through papers to throw some away - both boring jobs but satisfying when done! The best thing has been sitting in my courtyard garden in the shade with a cup of good coffee after lunch and watching a beautiful robin darting about behind the pots.
Keep as well as possible everyone.

I owe posters an apology. I didnt mean I was invisible on the Good Morning thread. I've always felt like I was among friends here. I think I was having a bit of a down moment. See you tomorrow. X

Jaxjacky Tue 07-Jul-26 13:54:55

Hi taichinan you can have our heat, please…

Taichinan Tue 07-Jul-26 13:19:59

So sorry to hear of your loss Gagagran. My thoughts are with you.
Now you know! You're not invisible Grandmabatty.
This is as early as it gets these days for me - but I have to say in my defence that this morning I have taught a tai chi class and done some shopping before reading the thread. First thing in the morning is taken up comparing wordles and news with DD and a quick morning chat with my wee cousin on the west coast -we're the last two standing of the older generation!
Karma I hope your 'skin thing' turns out to be nothing - as mine did ten years or so ago 🤞.
Enjoy your heat everyone. I believe we might actually see some sunshine tomorrow here on the Angus coast 🤞☀️🤞. A temperature of 21° is expected 😁

Good afternoon, Michael12 and all!

I'm on a 1/2-hour work break, sitting outside, guzzling a can of Monster Nitro!

On my way here this morning, I made friends with one of the most gorgeous grey Staffies I've ever seen. He's called William and is SOOOO lovely! Beautiful soft fur, hypnotic brown eyes, little floppy ears! We were over each other, kissing and cuddling! I really wish I could have taken William home with me! Smuggling in bed with him would be great!

Last night I grabbed a bowl of hot mac and cheese with peas, a mug of tea and watched 2011 The Jury, with Julie Walters as defence barrister, Emma Watts QC. If I'm ever in court needing defence, I'd love Emma on my side! Julie was magnificent!

We had periods of light rain here yesterday and last night, and it was glorious, I loved it!

Have a good one, all of you!

Grandmabatty

Thank you all for your welcome back messages and to Bellasnana for missing me. I'm really touched. Often I feel invisible-you have helped me feel seen.

Oh I am sad you feel invisible

You have been missed on here, especially the daily updates on your GSs.

So pleased you are back 🙋‍♀️

Redcar Tue 07-Jul-26 10:46:50

I often check later in the morning to see what I’ve missed. Good to see you again grandmabatty.
10.30 definitely isn’t late grannyme6!

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Tue 07-Jul-26 10:39:38

Oh Grannyme6 it’s surely NOT LATE at 10:30am
It’s just that we have so many early birds catching the worm!
#lazygran

Please join in all you (ahem) slower starters …. You’re all most welcome 🤗

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Tue 07-Jul-26 10:36:17

Of course we missed you dear Grandmabatty! You brighten my day for sure chatting about your lovely wee boys 💙

I think it’s more that if a poster has decided to take a break for a while we don’t like to mither them 😁

It’s lovely to have you back!

Grannyme6 Tue 07-Jul-26 09:45:18

As usual I’m late to post, but good morning anyway. Good to see you back Grandmabatty and 💐 for Gragagran.
Tennis lesson this morning and this afternoon I’m going to a memorial service for a dear lady.
Lots of watering in the garden later on as we were away at the weekend for our Golden wedding celebration with the family.
Wishing all a gentle day.

karmalady Tue 07-Jul-26 09:36:41

Gagagran I am so very sorry for your loss. May he rest in peace

GrannySomerset Tue 07-Jul-26 09:25:42

The next week or more is going to feel long if the forecast is right, so am making the most of a coolish morning to bed change, get lots of washing done and on the line, and set myself up for an afternoon’s tennis watching. Need to do some dead heading too while it’s actually pleasant outside - the roses have been impressive but short lived and most of mine are single flowering. Hope everyone has a comfortable day and that Mdoll and Grammaretto have a better one.

Georgesgran Tue 07-Jul-26 09:23:02

Good Morning from Durham. I can confirm it’s dull and breezy here and it’s rare we get the sort of heat that seems to cause problems further south. I’m really missing the 30 degrees in Malaga last week.
I’ll to able to get my holiday laundry finished and put away today. First, I’m meeting a friend for coffee, then I’ve a chiropodist appointment at 2pm. I bruised under a toenail in Barcelona early June - it doesn’t hurt, but it’s quite unsightly and growing out slowly.
💐Gagagran.

Best wishes to all. X

Good morning all,it's only 15° here in Glasgow, with yet again more rain.
I am puzzled by all these references to the heat.😉 What heat???
I treated myself to an Hělène Bernan dress yesterday, why???
It would have been more sensible, to buy a wooly sweater.🤣

Dear Gagagran, my sincere condolences. 💐

Dragonfly, I hope you are OK.

I am another who never let's my petrol tank go below half full. In fact, on the way back from the surgery yesterday, I topped it up, despite having 159 miles worth of petrol left.

At last, things are moving with DH, he received two cardiology appointments yesterday and the GP has sent photos of the infected keratosis to the dermatologist.
We thought one qppointment was clashing with my urgent rheumatology appointment, but I managed to resolve that.

Yesterday's funeral was rather upsetting for the mourners.
I arrived or tried to, only to find all access to the church, blocked by contractors, installing new water mains. They had closed off the exit from the large roundabout, adjacent to the church and the other entrance was blocked by the renovations. 🙈
I had to retrace my steps and drive up to my old school, then through a housing estate and back down the hill. Unfortunately, everyone else had the same idea and the narrow streets were gridlocked.
When I eventually got there, I spotted the P.P. walking down the hill in the pouring rain, to speak to the contractors.
He had previously contacted them, to inform them of the funeral and was assured, there would be access. No there wasn't. !!!!
Eventually, after some negotiation, the men reluctantly agreed to move their vans, which they had parked sideways across the roundabout, and allow the funeral cortege to come through.
The poor family were in tears.
It got worse, the organ broke down and the cantor valiantly sang all the music, unaccompanied.

If the rain stays off, we hope to get into the garden to move the dwarf apple tree, to fill the space, where the tree came down.
We had a contractor in yesterday for a quote to de-moss our roof. He has made a good job of our neighbours', so he will start next week, for I have been procrastinating for ages.

He was shocked when he saw our garden and asked if we had done all the work ourselves. He said it was beautiful, I thought it was a mess, because we are still clearing up the storm damage. It really bothering me, that I am permanently feeling too unwell to tackle it. I used to have ^good days*, and some respite. 😪
DH will not consider getting help, because, he will be better soon!

I am off to Sainsbury's first, then a rest, I am going to make an all in one dish, using smoked sausage, taught to me by a cook in Spain.
I asked her how to make: she went into the bin, took out a empty smoked sausage tin and an empty McCains bag, which had held potato cubes. 🤣
You just add, your preferred vegetables.

I wish you all a pleasant day.

BlueSapphire Tue 07-Jul-26 08:28:42

Good morning everyone from a slightly cloudy Northampton, but more sun forecast later.

It was lovely to get back to yoga yesterday and get back into some of my normal routine. I would usually be joining my walking group this afternoon, but won't be today as it is far too hot for walking. Yesterday afternoon I just sat and read, managing to finish my book.

Yesterday morning when I got back from yoga I vacuumed the bedrooms and had planned to do the stairs but the battery ran out of charge, so will probably do that later. First I am going to cut the front grass while it is cool, the front grass as everyone can see that! The back will have to wait!

I spoke to my electrician yesterday about the air fryer tripping my electrics and he thought that it sounded too powerful for my circuit; I checked the wattage rating on both air fryers and the new one is nearly twice the wattage of my old one. Funnily enough my kettle which is a much higher wattage works fine from the same socket! I have emailed Tower to see what they suggest.

So sorry to read your news gagagran 💐💐

Hoping that HelterSkelter 's cataract surgery went well.

Wishing all the best day possible.

grandMattie Tue 07-Jul-26 08:28:20

Deepest sympathy, gaga.❤️ It’s hard to lose a sibling.

Usedtobeblonde Tue 07-Jul-26 08:13:43

Good morning all from Stockport.
I slept well for once and have not even looked out at the weather.
It turned very warm yesterday ,reached 26 degrees.

Another quiet day for me, my house is full, my GD and her BF are working from home for five weeks while their office is moving premises, my GS is off until September when he goes to 6th form college and my S is off for a few days.
It is all a mixed feeling as I shall miss them when they are not here.

Condolences Gagagran you will miss your brother.
Lovely to see you back posting Grandmabatty hope to catch up with you in the kitchen.

I shall get my tea now and read the latest news.

Stay cool and hydrated everyone in this heat.

Good morning from the edge of South Lanarkshire (Peeblesshire and the Borders start just up the road from my daughter’s village.) A nice overnight stay and catch up, her shifts can make that tricky.

My condolences to you and your family Gagagran,

Nice to see you this morning Grandmabatty, I hope you are feeling better. Back home this morning after meeting a friend for coffee and a couple of hours of continuing the great clear out which I have at last started. Or maybe one hour!

I really hope you get some relief soon from your back pain Grammaretto,it must be very debilitating although you are not letting it keep you back.

Wishing everyone a good day.
