Going to a pop concert

Just been asked to go to a Take That concert tomorrow night with my lovely stepson, daughter in law and granddaughter. They have free tickets. What to wear!?!?!. I'm 74 and round and usually wear a loose top and either linen trousers or jeans if going out for a meal. It's at a football stadium and we'll be seated. I think I'm over thinking this but don't want to stand out like a sore thumb. Help!!

It’s Their circus Tour isn’t it. ? You lucky thing . I went to it several years ago and it was brilliant. I’d love to see it again but I wouldn’t be able to cope now due to mobility issues . It was so good we went twice when they did it at Old Trafford Cricket ground in Manchester .
We were so near the front I got to shake Gary’s hand ! Wear whatever you’re comfortable in. You will have a fab time .

Yes, it is, I saw it last time as well, it was absolutely amazing then and this time 👍🎪🤹

Have a great time, wear what you feel comfy wearing, like everyone has said.
Saw Take That a few years ago atvthe football stadium Milton Keynes, were fantastic.
Im off to the Royal Albert Hall to see The Temptations and Four Tops this friday.
Im not sure what to wear i think it will get very hot in there.
Our hotel is 20 min walk from RAH will hopefully be able to cool down afterwards.
So many venues have no aircon, came out of a concert very hot and felt unwell, no aircon.
You will be fine ,as in the open.

In the nicest possible way Rosiebee, what could you possibly wear that you think could make you ‘stand out like a sore thumb’?

A flowery crimplene dress, a cardigan, tights, and court shoes, topped with a beige anorak perhaps? I’m absolutely sure she wouldn’t dream of that though!

A ball gown? A fur coat?

I would wear exactly what you said you normally wear ie loose top and linen trousers.
BTW I think the terminology now might be a 'gig' not a pop concert, you need to get the language right! (joke).

grin

I never feel I stand out too much when dressed like that, but I sometimes tone down the flowers on my crimplene frock - I don't like to be thought a show off.

Everthroptimest - now I am envious.

You'll have a blast! Comfy clothes and shoes so you can dance your socks off! Loops (ear plugs) absolute necessity. Usually can pick some up at the accessible desk if you've not got any. Empty water bottle to fill up at water station (if you can find it!) There is nothing like live music to make you feel alive. Free tickets! Lucky lady! Have the best time.

Your outfit sounds perfect, but wear some trainers & maybe pacaway jacket in case of rain.
You are lucky if you can stand for a good couple of hours.
Last concert I went to Styx’s at the Palladium seated 👍🏻 everyone stood up, so didn’t get to see that much 😩

I would advise taking some ear plugs with you. I've only attended one pop concert and I was really glad of them. I could easily hear the music with them in place!

Concert earplugs are an absolute game-changer! I wouldn't be without mine now, especially as the gigs I tend to go out are very loud indeed. No ringing in the ears the next day, and you can hear the music just as well.

Don’t count on being seated, as soon as the band are about to appear everyone gets up to dance! So make sure you wear some comfortable shoes, trainers ideally.

I’m going to see them in Dublin on Saturday. Can’t wait!

Ooh The Scripts home concert, they were really good on Saturday 👏👏👏

Magenta8 Wed 01-Jul-26 14:49:26

Lucky you. Enjoy.

Kats2 Wed 01-Jul-26 14:44:43

Just in case be prepared people quite often stand up at these sort of concerts…

kittylester Wed 01-Jul-26 14:30:34

Are they called pop concerts any more?

Newatthis Wed 01-Jul-26 14:26:27

I don't think anyone will notice what anyone is wearing - too many people and Take That concerts are fantastic so all eyes will be fixed to the stage.

Doodledog Wed 01-Jul-26 14:25:53

I agree that you should wear something comfortable if you are going to have to walk from the car to the stadium, as it can be a bit of a hike.

There will be women of all ages at a Take That gig, so don't overthink it.

And enjoy - I'm envious!

StTrinians Wed 01-Jul-26 14:16:52

Whenever I go to a pop concert I wear shorts and t shirts, or thin trousers, and a loose top. Make sure that you wear comfortable shoes. Take a thin cotton jumper as often it gets chilly. You may need a thin raincoat rolled up/ brolly. I love Take That. Lucky you! smile

Visgir1 Wed 01-Jul-26 14:05:19

Wear something you can climb stairs in... Jeans Trainers and tops will do. Have a great time, I tried to get Tickets for a Stadium near me but all sold out, so enjoy.

crazyH Wed 01-Jul-26 14:01:03

I’m jealous - I love Take That

Lallylou Wed 01-Jul-26 13:56:28

Most definitely wear what is the most comfortable. Either outfits sound great! Just you go with the flow.....I'm envious!
