Sooooo what are you lovely lot doing this particularly hot week to cool down?

I’ve just discovered if you use a cool pack (the ones you freeze for cool bags), wrapped in a paper kitchen towel, then put behind neck of back of head whilst seated is brilliant! Who’d have known.

I’ve also used it on my wrists and top of legs, in rotation.

Other than that I’ve done the usual, upped my water intake, fans on, curtains shut, not doing much!

Any others have good tips please??

smile

Start early. We do our physical activity (eg gym) very early, and stay out of sun between 11am to 3pm, as much as possible. We shut the windows and curtains early morning, and wait until outside air is cooler before opening them all wide, opening doors too, to have through flow of cooler air at night. Shut inner doors during the day, to see which rooms are the coolest. Keep those as cool refuges. Ice cream. Cold showers. smilesmile

Cookiemonster66 that is the best tip of all. I am going to do that as I enjoyed my tepid bath last night so much.

Ive got a £9.99 ,neck fan from Amazon. Wonderful ive had it 4 yrs. A gift from my Grandsons wife. my total savior 4 summers on a row..I wore st a flower group I belong too. Several ladies were strait onto Amazon to get their own.

Give it a try.

When doing a laundry wash.. dry laundry in the room you are sitting or sleeping in using an indoor airer.
Cools down the room really well.
Living in Cyprus I used this method regularly.

I'm in red alert area and suffering like many others. I have 2 fans running and have soaked a tea towel in cold water, wrung it out and am sat with it wrapped around my neck, really cooling. Also keep standing in the shower and running cold water over my feet and lower legs which is also good. Will be going for a cool shower before bed but have had to sleep downstairs for last couple of nights as in the low 30's upstairs., horrendous.

Damp tea towel in the freezer then stick it on your head or round your neck. If you put it round your neck put a dry one underneath it.

Am looking at the Greenhouse Shading material. I am going to buy aome and test it out on the outside of my kitchen window which gets a hot blast of sunshine from 6 till 9 am. Hot and dazzling. I would like indoor shutters and will seriously think about that. But the material could be a good trial.

Are you ready for this Cossy? 😄 I take keeping cool really seriously, as anything over 20° for me is a nightmare. I love snow.
For bedtime:
5 foot gel pad (like a pet’s cooling gel pad).
Cooling blanket - it’s a lightweight silky top sheet
Hot water bottle filed with iced water.
The above are stored in a carrier bag in the fridge, ready for bedtime.

Wet wipes on bedside table.
A small desk fan at night.
A special scarf which once the fabric is wet, feels very cool.
Ice packs in water bottle covers on standby.
Spritzer face spray.
9711 eu de cologne

I wear long, floaty kaftans during the day, which waft around and are cooling. I have five of these as they are so inexpensive to buy.

Cold wet towels on the back of your neck, and lying towards the front of your boobs. We have a couple of thin sports towels, not Terry, that work perfectly. You can rub them over your face when your by a fan too. We had them from Amazon. My MIL lived in Spain, and all the older ladies did this with cloths and flannels.

Today big baggy old linen sleeveless dress with no bra. Lots of lovely ice cold cans of fizzy drinks in fridge. Selection of magnum ice creams in freezer. Going with the flow til life returns to normal xx

Oh no, bedroom is 30 degrees and humidity is 60. Horrible for sleeping

Shandy3 Thu 25-Jun-26 20:57:53

Fortunately we had Aircon fitted about 5 years ago and have never been more pleased! One unit keeps the whole downstairs cool.
I've also continued with keeping curtains and windows closed until evening. We are able to sleep in a downstairs bedroom which is a lot cooler due to the air-conditioning.
I love the 'cold waterbottle' tip. I'll be passing this onto 'hot friends'!

I filled paddling pool , put brolly up ,then put my grandson in his dinosaur car into it with spray bottles and a cloth and I sat on a chair next to him withmy feet in the water whilst he washed it( car was clean)
