Keeping Cool Tips! Let’s swap?

Just found something else - by trial and error.
Freeze Gel for arthritic joints - well watered down the dregs of an empty tube, covered myself neck to ankles (20 mins ago) - instant cooling all over, still tinglingly cold everywhere now.
This will be my go-to solution now.

I’m going to try putting the neck thing I have for the microwave in the fridge and see what happens!

The button of my trouser legs got soaked by dew this morning when I walked the dog around 7:30am.
I’m not sure I’d recommend it but with cool ankles, I was beautifully cool until they dried out.

DH takes out spaniel out just before 6:00am every day, he wore shorts this morning and said how lovely it was!

Put feet in a bowl of cool water (not fridge cold) and keep it cool ...sit for hours.

As others have said on other threads, fill hot water bottle a third with water, stick in freezer and take to bed.

Keep all curtsins and windows closed until its cooler outside than inside.

Don't move unnecessarily , it generates heat.

Have a bowl of ice cubes nearby to dip fingers into and dab onto wrists, behind neck and ears.

Buy a big bag of ice cubes and hug them.

If seiously overheating, open fridge and stick head inside. Or pull up chair and pop feet inside.

Have a tepid shower and stand in front if fan.

Plan for the next heatwave with everything you wish you'd done for this one! (Note to self) xx

I've put our table top fan on the floor, opposite the sofa.
It's moving the air very efficiently and is far more effective than when it's been positioned higher up.

Freeze a bottle of water and stand in front of your fan. It very cooling.

Gosh it's hot! Time for a second pint.

Stick your head under the tap, cool not freezing water, drip dry.

Yes I did this with my glass of rosé yesterday evening 🍷
(And am about to do so now...)

Because I need both legs to be dressed, I can't have a cooling shower so last night I watched TV with a cotton nightie on and although hot it was cooling. I live in London, and it was 32C at 7 pm. Somehow I sleep all night. My duvet folded over, a dressing gown close by in case the weather changes and a nightie.

I have a heart condition, have a pacemaker and still take a small dose of betablockers. Although I am generally really well, fit and active, high temperatures with high humidity are an issue for me as I'm not able to control my temperature as well as I might. I put a hot water bottle in the freezer and pop it into my bed half and hour before I go up, it then goes to my feet and I sleep with it at my side with my wrists on it. I've also got battery operated fan for my face and special cloths that you can wet and then put in the freezer, great for slopping round my neck. I bought the fan and cloths for the Paris Olympics as I knew I'd be sitting in open stands. They were an absolute Godsend!

A long cool bath. Start lukewarm and just let cold water trickle in until you are completely covered and beginning to shiver with cold. Get out of the bath, dry in the air without clothes and then go to bed. You should get 5 or 6 hours cool sleep'

I am also using damp hats and socks.

Boots own branded old fashioned lavender cologne / toilet water - decanted into spray bottles and kept in the fridge - spray liberally all over

Some good tips there.

My suggestion depends on the position of your house and where you can sit. We have a south-facing garden, so we're in the lounge at the front, which is north-facing. It's actually quite cool as the sun just doesn't shine towards this room. Same as the front bedroom.

Obviously the ambient temperature is high, currently 78°F, but we're quite cool with no fans on and only the kitchen window open.

Even so, sitting in a north-facing room helps if you can do that.
